Phil, If I owned a 430 over 10 years old I would replace the radiator just for peace of mind. They are not expensive as far as Lexus parts go, and are very easy to fit. I would also make absolutely sure I had only Toyota Red/Pink coolant in it. Just my two pence worth.2 points

Hello all. For what its worth - I'm a very new Lexus owner (LS430 '02). Last June I purchased it, October it passed its MOT but (there's usually a "but") there was little service history, and I did not know if it had a timing belt done - so I checked a few places for quotes, and do you know; the least expensive was Lexus in Bolton ( £500 including water pump ). On Friday morning I took it in, got a curtesy car (CT200h). By the time I got home they rang me up to say that the radiator was kaput, they even sent me a video of the problem rad. Strange as it may seem I was seriously considering a new rad because of problems with auto box's mentioned in other posts. A little earlier today I went to pick her up (and pay!!!!!) - they had given her what seemed to me was a great valet (inside and out) - I was glad to be back driving her - the CT200h was a nice car, but not in the same league. I think that sometimes we (me) give the main dealers a bad time - I must admit, thus far, they have played fair by me (apart from trying to charge £70 for 5 litres of oil. Sorry about the rambliness ( is that a word? ) Here's hoping I keep away from my wallet for a goodly while. Best wishes to all, Bob.1 point

Just my own opinion and findings, there's no point chasing power on the is250, it's an awesome car for what it is but lacks the noise from the v6. The route I was going to go was k&n typhoon first then maybe a custom exhaust. The exhaust put me off because in the past on other cars, the tick over at 6am is too loud and the motorway drone is tiresome. I think a valve system would be a good idea, open valve for the weekend drives and close the valve for quiet comfort drives. I rarely drive that early anymore but I have a 2 month old boy in the back so nothing overly loud. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk1 point

Hola and welcome to the LOC. A very nice Lexus, you give the fuel figures in mile per gallon are you not on kilometers per litre1 point

It's usually the lower arm inner bushes that go and these are available for around ££25.00, Lexus only do the complete arm at around £200.00, LBJs are around £120.00 a pair from Lexus http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-LS400-4-0I-UCF20-94-01-FRONT-LOWER-WISHBONE-TRACK-CONTROL-ARM-FRONT-BUSH-/171192788636?fits=Car+Make%3ALexus&hash=item27dbe2a69c:g:aIIAAOxygPtSpwHW1 point

Someone on this forum linked to this site http://www.wheelfitment.eu/car/Lexus/CT200h%20(2011%20-%20).html which advises the Prius space saver is compatible with the CT200h. As you suggest, Prius spare wheels are easier to source. I got a barely used one from eBay for £31 the other week. It fits in the well, but I had to take out the tray. My two previous cars had no spares, just the the gunk, and I sourced spares for those too. The gunk isn't much use if a valve snaps off either, which has happened to me.1 point

I've had mine just over 3 months. My journey to work takes about 15 minutes and I'm usually bumper to bumper on the way home, so my average mileage sits at around 14 Mph. I've read some of the tips on here, turn AC off, drive in Eco mode etc. but I was only getting around 37Mpg. I was off work a couple of weeks ago and gave the car a few good runs. I learned a lot about how to get the most out of Eco mode and how to "pulse and glide". At the end of the week, the MPG had increased to 62, but the average speed was much higher. When I got back into my usual routine, it dropped again and it now sits at around 42. From what I gather from this forum and personal experience, the car achieves better MPG when driving at 40Mph or higher, rather than stop/start bumper to bumper journeys. Even so, I can't complain as I can go 4 weeks without having to fill the tank. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk1 point

Welcome to the forum , Great choice of car. I actually quite like the XE and it will probably be my next car. Compared to the Lexus it is a little plain imho. The XE forum is also full of complaints about the standard ICE/sat nav!! Where is the nice analogue clock in the JAG? Screen and vents set a bit low to. Still a really impressive vehicle though. Thank goodness Jag & Lexus have not as yet fitted a tacked on screen like the German makes. I cannot stand the screen in the C class it looks like an afterthought. Ed.1 point

Hi Mike, Yep done all that - the usual standard stuff ;-)) I have wasted time and effort on this niggling problem. Bought a telescope motor that I didn’t need, various ecus that I didn’t need and so on. I now have access to a door mirror assembly but we need to pay for that and have it sprayed to match the car. Don’t want further expense if it’s not going to solve the problem. This appears to be a known problem and I am surprised the Lexus don’t have an advisory note on this. Get on really well with Lexus Canterbury. Service Manager is Anna and she is absolutely outstanding! But…not sure about the advice to buy a new mirror assembly so wanted to check it out with you guys. Any Lexus owners in Canterbury area should no about Anna as she is exceptional in the customer care she provides and the pricing is very reasonable. Can’t recommend them highly enough. They are very happy to look after my 'Vintage Lexus' as they call it ;-)) I don't let anyone else near it. Best wishes Nigel...1 point

Damn it This is unbelievable. Are these people Lexus Technicians or are they people that just point at random parts that might have failed? After all this, I am beginning to think that perhaps one of the new parts they fitted might also have been faulty. Might have to start going the other way and fitting parts from your car to another one of theirs to see if that car replicates the fault. Don't give up mate. Just stick with it and force the dealer to find the fault. After all, you have already spent quite a bit of money changing parts that they recommended.1 point

Hi Andy and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over. I cant help with your present queries but I'm sure someone will be along ASAP. We recommend you spend a couple of mins looking over the rules of the LOC, we will be asking questions later http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/terms-conditions/ Regards Mike.1 point

Hi Rob, I have a 2011 model and felt the same about the lack of spare. There are many comments about the grunge not working in some circumstance then you have to pay for recovery etc. and then replace the tyre anyway because the fitter says they can't fix a grunged tyre. I believe the space saver spare from a Prius will fit in the spare wheel well (I think that is what I have) but the boot floor will not lay flat if the underfloor storage tray is not left out. To overcome that I made a cut across the rearmost face of the tray and then diagonally down toward the bottom front-most corners. Overlapped the bottom and the top halves along the rearmost edge. Put everything in place and measure the amount of overlap then pop-riveted the overlapping parts giving a somewhat wedge shaped tray about 7inches deep at the front and 3 inches deep at the rear. Some hot air from a hot air paint stripper allowed me to "tweak" the fit. Now the spare, jack, etc fits under the tray and the floor still fits. Then I did the same to my daughters. :o)1 point

I agree with all of that, applying some kind of grease around the sensors (cleaning them first) will make a big difference, and lubricating all the other moving parts connected to them. Eurocarparts are doing a radiator for the LS430 for £107 at the moment, and Toyota red coolant is about £25 for 5 litres. You will also need a very small amount of transmission fluid to top it up. Toyota would only sell me 5 litres so I bought 1 litre of the correct Mobil fluid from eBay for about £11. The correct type of fluid will be stamped on the tip of the transmission dip stick.1 point

A big welcome to you andywin and congratulations on your choice of car. I'm sure that you will enjoy your new car when it arrives. Lots of good friendly advice on here. Would be good to see some piccy's when you get it.1 point

hi phil reference the height adjusters - other members have as a preventative measure put some grease on them to keep the moisture out. and reference the radiator - you cannot tell wether its about to fail or not by just looking at it - the problem is inside hidden from view and starts at the transmission fluid inlet unions. - hope this helps1 point

Would a Lexus Dealer replace the Belt and Waterpump without doing the tensioners also? Not being facetious - genuine question...1 point

there's a company in the UK (Slough) that looks as if they sell the magnaflow systems. http://www.profusioncustoms.com/1 point

I don't recall seeing any joins for the two pipes from start to finish, but will hopefully get some photos when I drop the car off with H&S. The addition of the two small silencers in my current system certainly reduced a lot of the drone issues I was having, but there is still some drone there that I have learnt to live with. Could H&S add an H or X pipe to their current system, sure, can't see why not?! The fact these systems are custom built for each and every car they have been fitted to, should mean a greater possibility for changes to the design to suit each and every owners individual needs. Will the costs vary, without doubt they will to factor what hardware you want fitted. You also need to keep in mind the quality of the work and materials H&S use are second to none. A lot of cheaper systems are cobbled together in places like China using very low quality stainless steel to keep costs of manufacture down. As anyone who has been to the H&S workshop can tell you, they have row upon row of top end stainless steel they use on all their systems. The fact so many exotic car owners choose H&S to build them exhausts is not a coincidence. I'll keep you posted on how things go when I drop the car off with them in the next few weeks.1 point

Hi, I would be surprised if it is LED, typically on our age cars they'd be incandescent bulbs which can fail in the way you describe. Might be worth seeing if there is a YouTube video showing some one removing the module & speak to Toyota/Lex to see if the bulb is available to buy separately for a pound or two.1 point

Well, sounds like it's definitely the culprit. It could be the temp variations through the evening -> night -> morning has helped the parts unstick/free up. At this point it is worth finding out if it's the mechanism (inside rear brake disc hub) or the cable that is jamming. If it's the mechanism, it can be cleaned up with a wire brush and some penetrating fluid, if it's the cable, then although you might be able to temporarily unstick it, you'll have to replace it - once it's gone, it's gone! The cables them selves are usually silly money tho :(1 point

I've started a thread with some info on valves as I'm planning on having a system made up with them.1 point
-
It will be as simple as a valve you choose to open or close at the press of a button. Pretty sure this is the same with all aftermarket system. So not like factory units which open up at x rpm.1 point

Retrofitting adaptive cruise control I would hazard a guess its going to be arduous task, better of selling what you have a buying something with it standard.1 point

After 4 months ownership I thought I had a full understanding of my 460 by now after reading everything in the hand book pack. Yesterday I was stationary at lights in the middle lane of a 3 lane road with the outside lane being a right turn filter lane. I moved forward a little to allow a car to get past at the start of the filter turn lane and watched him carefully crawl past me with only inches to spare. The next thing I saw was "man in a white van" come speeding up in the outside lane clearly with a view to passing me as well and my first thought was he was going to clip my osr corner. I held my breath and suddenly felt my headrest pad touch the back of my head. It had come forward on it's own as the van came with an inch of my car and I quickly realised the rear bumper sensor must have triggered a pending impact instruction to the headrest. As soon as the van passed the headrest returned to the original position. How clever is that?. I can assure you I didn't do anything or move my head backwards, the headrest came forward to minimise the distance between my head and the headrest. The next day I searched the manual and couldn't find any reference to any sensor that would do this. Anyone else had this happen?. I knew Lexus were clever and this just reinforces their attention to detail.1 point
