  1. Spending a full day with a full time car detailer who showed me the basics of paint correction was very useful. Although some professional detailers might consider I achieved what they call a "reflection polish" result I did in fact remove all the swirl marks in the top coat after a fairly aggressive initial cut. I believe certain darker colours help with showing off results after machine polishing such as red and black whereas silver and white for example are colours, in my opinion, which are harder to show pin sharp results. I'll do another finer cut of the top coat in the spring when it's a little warmer but for now my 9 year old paint on my 460 is looking a lot better from when I purchased it in Oct 2015.

  2. I had the same experience as Anthony after reconnecting the battery following a charge. I double-checked the tightness of the connections, crossed my fingers, put in the key, noticed with relief that the steering wheel moved, turned the key and the engine fired up as normal. Everything worked and nothing (including the radio stations) needed to be reset. Brian, yours is a later car, so perhaps it has a different immobiliser or something?

  4. Very early impressions of wife's new car are very good. Certainly think the 2014 facelift greatly improved the car. Hybrid should keep the bills down, but will keep forum updated on that!

  5. the crisp punchy bass and crisp tune.. a music lover can tell. Good music shows it. Has to be quality music and was recorded for 7.1 channel. I am reading here a lot people can't differentiate between 2 channel aux input and a 7.1. Just tells they are not bothered about it. It's exactly like buying a 10 quid headphones or a bose 200+ pounds head phones. But for a normal person it's just music. But then I am a person who spent 2k on music system on one car and installed it myself with a lot of math involved.

  6. No point doing the pads unless they're worn unevenly. Best to check it out beforehand. Might be worth showing another mechanic first but the rotors will definitely need changing at some point anyway. If that solves the problem then great! If not, no loss to you as it'd need to be done regardless.

  7. Just got my Mk 4 back from the Garage. 93 k on the clock, and I could hear a vague rumble. Turned out to need new Idler bearing and New water Pump. Also it needed a new cam belt, even though the last one only had 4k on it ,as mechanic would not guarantee it other wise. £600.00 all in. Still I dont mind spending money on my mistress!

  8. I dont think its the bearings - they usually make a noise when you're going round turns, not in a straight line. I think its an issue confined to the brake or wheels themselves. Id check the rotors and pads to make sure they arent shot, could easily be break wear sensors touching and making that noise. Make sure the nuts are tightened to 76 foot pounds of torque and that the dust cover isnt hitting anything. Ideally id get those brakes changes, they're pretty close to completely shot. Check pads and discs for any sort of asymmetrical wear too.

  11. Hi Tahmid and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over. I cant help with your present queries but I'm sure someone will be along ASAP. We recommend you spend a couple of mins looking over the rules of the LOC, we will be asking questions later. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/terms-conditions/ Regards Mike.

  12. OK, removing the wires from the ISO harness is not the worst thing so long as you are going to be methodical before putting each one back! Do you have a multimeter or a test lamp so you can establish for certain that you have power from the car 12v supplies? One is switched and one is permanent - so establish which is which and that they do provide power and then check which colour that is meant to be supplying at the stereo end (sometimes red and yellow have to be switched around). But it still won't work without the power being earthed - so check that it is the correct earth wire and then do the same check for the stereo earth wire. Once you have those three connected then you should be able to see the stereo power up and hold a settings in its memory - if not then the either the connection plugs aren't making a good connection or the stereo has blown it's own fuse (10 amp on the back?). So again use the mutimeter on the stereo end of the wiring to make sure the supply is definitely reaching the stereo and being earthed. Then use the same process for the speakers - start at the stereo end, make sure you know which two wires are for an individual speaker then follow that through to the car end and connect those two up - turn it on and use the fader/balance controls on the stereo to isolate that speaker and make sure it's the correct one. Then do that for the remaining speakers. Don't guess or assume on any wire colour as car wiring is always more confusing than you think. Lastly, if you're really struggling with these principles consider whether you are the right person to be doing wiring!! It isn't everyone's skill area - some are better at mechanical/bodywork but won't touch wiring, so it's no shame to admit defeat and get a mate in who's got more skills in this area.

  13. Intermittent faults are a pig to trace but it may be an idea to release the display enough to gain access to the connectors and then give them a wriggle also lightly tap the unit to see if you can make the fault appear. Since the introduction of lead free solder electronics seem to have more reliability issues.

  15. Yes the rears look fine. if you compare the fronts to the rears you'll notice the spokes are the wrong way around. Basically the IS-F has four different wheels. as the rears are bigger than the fronts and they are all handed. They often get put on the wrong side when tyres are changed.

  16. Doesn't fill me with confidence when it comes to trading up to an LS 460/600 in years to come. I'll keep my 400 going for as long as possible I think. Heated seats still working after 15 years. Apart from wear and tear, very little has gone wrong in that time.
