  1. This disconcerting intermittent (quite loud) noise may be very simple to solve!! Do you have a rear bumper protector fitted? If you do, check that it is stuck down properly, because if it lifting at one end, it will flap with the turbulance at higher speeds. It happened to me when towing our caravan in windy conditions and I checked and modified everything I could think of on the car and caravan with no success. I knew the bumper protector was loose at one end, but just ignored it, but one day I decided to remove it and replaced the double sided tape. The next time we had the caravan on the back -- no more noise and none since. Stupidly simple -- I just wouldn't have thought this strip of rubber could make that noise !! Hope this suggestion helps. 2. You may want to consider an Executive Limited Edition, which is fully loaded, including the Mark Levinson sound system, but excluding the rear entertainment system (DVD player + headrest mounted screen). This was the outgoing edition before the 450h came out, typically on a 58/09 plate. As posted above, the 100k service is expensive as it includes a cambelt change (and often a water pump change). Also check that the battery (not the hybrid battery pack is fairly recent). Problems with the battery are well documented throughout this forum. I would recommend buying from a dealer and paying for the extended warranty, and to make sure you test the car and all its gadgets. If not from a dealer, make sure you buy from a reputable garage with a good warranty. Note that Lexus offer cheaper service plans for cars over 5 years old.

  3. I have owned my Mk IV DHP for nearly 8 years now and it is approaching 182,000 miles. I enjoy this vehicle and is my daily driver and long distance cruiser when returning back to West Sussex from Newcastle while I am temporarily working near Sunderland for a motor manufacturer in one of their IT sections. I have been looking at moving up to a newer model and am not sure whether to look at 430 or the 460. My other alternative would be to spend a few thousand bringing my DHP to scratch by replacing the ball joints and suspension parts and refurbishing the wheels and getting the body work tidied up. This I would like to do as cost effectively as possible, so any recommendations of a garage in the Newcastle area would be appreciated. What are other members thoughts ? Use 3k to renew existing vehicle, splash out up to 7k on a 430, or up to 15k on a 460. What is likely to go wrong on the 460, I have looked at those available and one in particular seemed to have tyre wear problems with suspension parts replaced and wheel geometry setup performed. also a radiator was replaced. Does the 460 suffer with same problems as the 430 with air suspension and transmission cooling pipes to the radiator. Any thought on this are appreciated.

  4. Good colour combo - looks nice! I bought a 4.2 Jaguar in my 20's because I'd always wanted one (I'm 38 now). I genuinely do intend to keep it forever or sell it at a point that it's value assures it will live forever if not with me. I even rent a second garage to keep it in! You could well turn round in 10 years time and find you still have it. Advice I'd give for taking care of a large / premium car like this in your 20's is: 1. Drive it how it is designed to be driven. Waft about in style and leave any top gear antics for the track. Its always tempting to test what it will do but points on the license = insurance pain, and a crash is the last thing you want. It is very easy to run out of tarmac mucking about in a big RWD car on British roads. 2.Budget forward. Large premium cars are less stressed, usually better built, and often go wrong less often - but... they still need consumable parts and servicing, and this is going to cost more than a 1.0 Yaris. Its a good idea to put a bit aside each month for this and anything that goes wrong - it avoids future skimping and allows you to remain objective about the cost of ownership. 3. Avoid modifying it unless you are prepared to spend money and watch the car lose value in the process whilst your insurance premium shoots up or gets invalidated (bad idea). Hunting down and retro-fitting OEM upgrades can increase your enjoyment and the cars value if you are inclined towards tinkering.

Timing belt is shown but it has an asterisk saying additional charges may apply. Depends on the dealer I guess as it isnt a straight "yes you will be charged"

  7. Yes the rears look fine. if you compare the fronts to the rears you'll notice the spokes are the wrong way around. Basically the IS-F has four different wheels. as the rears are bigger than the fronts and they are all handed. They often get put on the wrong side when tyres are changed.

  8. Hi. I like your choice of car. I drove one a few years ago at a Lexus test day event. Great car. I drive a fantastic RX400h. I'm pleased you didn't have a Mercedes as my uncle has had two mercs and both times has crippling electronic problems. Keep with Lexus. Great cars Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

  9. Phil, I'm not sure if this applies to your LS430 or not, but on the LS400 mk4 you can only start the car after replacing/reconnecting the battery by leaving the ignition key in the "on" position, (see handbook), for at least 6 minutes. (No codes are lost). If you don't do this it won't start. Hope this helps.

  12. Thank you John, Most of the information I used to make my decision between the Merc and Lexus was on paper and online user reviews. Maybe I should've taken the Merc for a test drive to get a proper comparison. Its good to hear from someone who has both. In terms of aspirations, there's always something to aspire to in my opinion. I would like to have the GS Hybrid next, whether that's the mk3 GS or a newer shape will probably depend on how far in the future I move on from my current vehicle, and hopefully one day the LS600h. I would also like to give the Germans a go at some point. You may have noticed my car history is 100% Japanese. Audi, BMW and Merc all seem like they have something different to offer. Seeing as my decision was between the GS and E class, I approve of your choice of vehicles very much. Happy motoring, Usman

  14. Just an update - think Ive found the issue. The arm is not bent, neither is the blade or anything wrong with the refill fitment. I only realised this today when my son pointed it out - the left side wiper is leaving the dreaded "curtain lace" behind. Of course, this means the left wiper needs changing and I have ordered the refill so will fit that. BUT, for the eagle eyes among you, you'll notice that the rain sensor is on the LEFT side of the windscreen where the left wiper runs. So, due to this curtain lace effect, it thinks that the rain is there even though the driver's side is pretty clean leading to the wipers going off to clear the windscreen more frequently than they should be and hence, it runs through the rain X really quick on the drivers side!!

  15. Have put a deposit on the Woodford car, didn't want to miss out for the sake of a few quid. Have done so on a refundable basis and on the condition that in my eyes, it's mint. Fingers crossed it as should b / I hope it will be as I won't be stumping up if it isn't! away this weekend so will have to go down next - could be a long 10 days!

  16. Red Lexus IS? It'll never catch on! FSH and 70k is good for a 51 plate, but I'm guessing from the painted calipers and wheels, the last owner wasn't the archetypal little old lady?
