  1. Hi Guys, I've been lurking on here for almost a year and found the information very useful in purchasing my first Lexus, a Mk3 GS300. I will post more pics in the GS section of this forum. Also, the gold membership looks great, I think I might just take one of those. :-) Cheers Usman

  3. Loads of people are asking for pics but I want it to be perfect first and have all the bits I want doing finished first. I'm a ridiculous perfectionist to the point of OCD so even though it's been very well valeted I'm doing it all again inside and out and a proper wax too. I've got a loads of stuff in the post like the calliper paint and DECALS (though I don't think they will fit as the callipers don't seem to have any large parts of uninterrupted surface area to put them) and the puddle lights. Also I've had a quote for window tints so will be getting those done too. I want to do the ambient lighting too but worried about messing it up and damaging something as it's so new, I think I'd have a small breakdown if I did that just at the moment. may have to hit up the guy that did it for some details instructions.

  4. I can't 'like' a comment anymore, just get a message 'you cant add a reputation to this user'. And sometimes get a pop up 'do you want to leave this page' when I'm just navigating through the forum.

  5. I'll be at at a cars and coffee type meet up in Scalm Park on Sunday 13th March in the ISF. It's been organised by a few local folk via the Yorkshire subforum on Pistonheads. This will hopefully be the first of some regular Sunday morning meets. If anyone fancies coming along then feel free. We should hopefully have a nice mix of cars present. The location is - Scalm Park Leisure Wistow Common Selby North Yorkshire YO8 3RD Sunday 13th March 10:00

  6. Front lower control arm bushes, leaking seals on tailgate lights letting water accumulate around the hybrid batteries under the boot floor, stuck rear brake caliper pins, water pump leaks. Generally a reliable car but most issues will cost a lot to fix. Check that the inverter recall work has been done if necessary. Expensive services due at 60K and 100K miles.

  7. Not all cars are built like a Lexus, not all cars do low mileage prior to their first MOT. And not all drivers look after their cars during this three years period. So, all in all, 3 years I feel is about right, it certainly doesn't need extending

  8. Just an update - think Ive found the issue. The arm is not bent, neither is the blade or anything wrong with the refill fitment. I only realised this today when my son pointed it out - the left side wiper is leaving the dreaded "curtain lace" behind. Of course, this means the left wiper needs changing and I have ordered the refill so will fit that. BUT, for the eagle eyes among you, you'll notice that the rain sensor is on the LEFT side of the windscreen where the left wiper runs. So, due to this curtain lace effect, it thinks that the rain is there even though the driver's side is pretty clean leading to the wipers going off to clear the windscreen more frequently than they should be and hence, it runs through the rain X really quick on the drivers side!!

  9. The trouble with the difference in mileage between our good selves and the USA is that we are mugs and the whole world knows it.

  10. If you don't have a warranty then going to a dealer with a hybrid battery issue is a very expensive experience, they won't do anything other than swap out the entire battery. Luckily there are people like Richard around who can get you back up and running more economically.

  11. A month ago I had my 2006 150,000 GS450h battery refurbished by Richard at Hybrid Battery Solutions in Northampton. I had all the usual warning lights and a battery fan on. It cost me £800 and he even took me to/from the station. I have driven over 1000miles since and I am getting a better mpg. Highly recommended. I was quoted £2700 from local lexus dealer.

  12. The power battery consists of some 40 cells connected in series to produce some 280 volts dc. The charging current is in series too, so any resistance in any single connection , just only one, will reduce the charging current going through the battery. Hence the battery will never have its full power. Simultaneously when the battery is called upon to deliver power to the converter and then to the inverter, will not be able to deliver the full current possible and available. The fact that you get the alarms when it rains or when there is humidity in the air, indicates bad contacts on the battery connections, power cable connections etc. I would strongly recommend that you access the power battery, check for any signs of corrosion on all the terminals and disconnect each cell, measure the voltage across each one and record it. You should also check the current delivered through a resistance to limit the maximum current delivered during the check. To do this work you must have the knowledge to work on medium voltage circuits. If you do not have this knowledge, it is very dangerous and it can be lethal if you touch the dc battery terminals. There are special insulated gloves you wear for this purpose. The Techstream diagnostic scanner would be a great help in pin pointing the problem. I would be very interested to do this work for nothing but I do not live in uk. If you look at a similar topic you will find a contribution made by Richard. He repaired the power battery for somebody and the problem was corrosion on the connectors of the battery cells. He has the experience the knowledge and the equipment to help you. Wishing you the very best of luck, Chris.
