  1. I've just booked 3 Services (2 Intermediate and 1 full) plus 2 MOTs at Lexus Chester for my RC-F. The price is the same for an IS-F, hence my posting the information here. It cost £833.50 which is a nice 26.5% discount on the standard £1135 cost. I'm not sure if it is a Lexus wide offer, or just Chester.

  2. i replaced my own water pump and timing belt on my 430 a few months ago ....cost me £200 for parts (trade price) and took about 2 hours (but I have that advantage as I am a mechanic and have been fitting timing belts for past 20 years) I always replace water pump if driven by the timing belt (false economy otherwise)

  3. Rob I own a 2008 GS450h, to date I've never had an issue with it. The car has just over 70K. My only advise is to let Lexus do all servicing/MOT & repairs as not many independents will touch a Lexus hybrid. Don't let this worry you, Lexus don't try to rip people off over pricing & customer service is second to none. Last thing, I've driven this car all over Europe especially during the winter, never have I've driven a better car. I'd go for a GS over a CT any day of the week.

  5. I think it's down to the difference between the motoring environments in Europe and that of the U.S.A. Here in the U.K. we tend to have much more stop/start driving and shorter journey lengths than Americans do, which in theory would put more strain on the cambelt. In actuality though, you hardly ever hear of any breakages either here or in the States even when the belt is way, way over the recommended change interval. Shows you how good they are.

  6. Barry, I can echo Piers' recommendation. I've used Japex a few times for different jobs. Last time was for MOT. (Passed with flying colours). They have taken on a few more staff recently as they are now busier than ever. One of the owners is Stuart, who I always ask for when enquiring about work on my mk 4. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else.

  7. Thanks PCM all sorted, car came back on Wednesday. Dealer has put almost £1k into the car. I will have ruin his Monday as the main window switch panel on the drivers door is playing up again, this was identified prior to sale and was swapped out but whilst I can open the rear windows from it I can't open the passenger one. A new one is about £700. it remains a very relaxing car to drive and Mrs A is delighted to drive it.

  8. It might sound obvious, but have you checked for any debris trapped in the tyre tread? I had most peculiar noises when driving home after having new tyres fitted, it turned out to be a stone jammed in the centre of the tyre tread.

  9. Henry, I've recently had a cambelt + water pump + pulleys replacement, and a similar ouch moment financially. Trying to be philosophical about it, I decided (1) what price peace of mind? (2) if the belt broke and wrecked the engine, would I ever forgive myself? (3) if I have to sell the car I can ask the going rate (whatever that is) for it. (4) Even if I keep it another ten years, that works out to only £60 a year. (5) Apart from worn-out suspension, there's nothing else major that will need doing to the car. (6) Considering that the car's worth what I paid for it six years ago, it really hasn't cost me much to run. (7) A cambelt is more important than any bodywork or detailing, however nice that might be to have done. (8) Read Honest John and see what owners of some much newer 'quality' cars have to pay for repairs to turbos, electronic handbrakes etc. A guy with a 2010 Mercedes estate (diesel, 89,000 miles, full Merc service history) had a snapped timing belt and was quoted £11,000 for a new engine, of which he would have to pay half.

  12. I must be a bit of a gambler! No warranty for me! I put £50/month into a separate account that I can raid if the worst happens. As opposed to an old Mercedes SL500 I had. I had a warranty with Warranty Direct and probably paid about £1000 in 3 yrs into the plan. I must have had at least 7-8x that back. Great car, but monumentally complicated and unreliable! I'm probably blacklisted from WD for life!

  14. Yeah, this so true depending on which one is buggered. The airflow direction servo is a different one to the temperature one (albeit a flap is probably involved somewhere as well). On my GS430, the air flow direction servo went (changed it last week) and that did make a clicking noise sometimes, but not every time. If you are needing to change one, be sure to search fleabay by part number once you've found the right one. Second hand servos were expensive for the GS430, but they are the same part number as the IS200 one, which were much cheaper ;) I'm sure later models would share these types of components as well.   15. Aye, whilst they are bulletproof I still like having the warranty for peace of mind. Add in the breakdown cover which also includes a hire car allowance in the event of the car needing to go in for repair and it's worth the money. Works out to be £37.29 a month over the 2 years.

  16. Must admit I didn't renew my warranty when it ran out and had no problems. If the water pump was going to leak I'm sure it would of done by now and already been fixed. The touchscreen is an easy fix and not 100% sure its part of the warranty anyway. At the end of the day it's peace of mind. £400 per year is not a lot "if" something goes wrong. Nothing has been documented yet about any ISF problems but someone has to be the first as they get older. And "if" something goes wrong it will be mega £££££'s. Just thank goodness we don't have M3's or AMG63's. They 100% need a warranty.

  17. I was told that the water pump is a known weak point, that combined with the touchscreen issues has made me consider getting the warranty for peace of mind. Yes, servicing is additional but the warranty does include European wide breakdown cover so it's pretty good for the money.

  18. I've heard that when the servo plays up it is sometimes accompanied by a light clicking noise as it has trouble changing the airflow direction 'flap' (for want of better words! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. Hi, sounds like you could have a pocket of trapped air in the heater core. Have you had any work done recently such as a new timing/cam belt?

  21. Just give them a very gentle clean round the edges with an old toothbrush. That should get a lot of the dirt out.
