  1. Yes, this car was mentioned recently in another thread. Mike's right, but surely £1100 is a good price? That's banger money really, and anything at that price is going to need something doing. I'm just aware that 400s are rare these days, and so buyers can't afford to be so choosy. There again, this one could be a money pit. Steve, you're right too - 'excellent condition' could mean anything. A surprising number of cars are described as 'mint'... These are some of my favourite ads (not Lexus): 'I have only bought this car a couple weeks ago for my girlfriend to learn to drive and can't get on with gears so she is now up for sale going very cheap.' 'Stolen and recovered in 2007 with engine and gearbox missing, never been used since.' (What a surprise.)

  2. Picked up my ISF today so I'm finally part of the club! A huge thanks to Keith for a hassle free purchase and for having such a nice low mileage and well cared for car. Waiting for the weather to improve so I can start exploring the power. Nursed it home from Oxford to Leeds today, managed an impressive 32.1mpg! Here is a picture of the car that Keith took. I'm planning to get some pics of my own when I get the time. Need to clean the Galant VR4 up first and get that sold.

  3. A 250 mile drive home from Yorkshire, and apart from the usual steering wobble sometimes under braking it drove faultlessly, with an average showing at 30.6MPG. A bit of tidying up to do, one of the worse being it was a smokers car, but overall it was a treat to drive! I'll get some photos on soon. And Steve, if you read this, they sorted out the blower, the mirrors, and the seat belt height adjuster, so all works fine. Phil

  4. Description is vague to say the least, is there any service history? From the previous MOTs looks like someone didn't check their tyres very often for wear or punctures a sign of neglect, also seems to have been fitted with the cheap chinese upper control arms with dust covers splitting between tests. Bodywork looks pretty good though and the wheels look refurbed, interior is another matter looks like a carpet out job to get that clean. For the offered money it doesn't look bad, 2000 model year too. Sorry Steve this one is too far for me to travel to.

  5. Banger money is £500. I agree you will always have to spend money on these cars but unless things like the cam belt being done it doesn't take long before a couple of hundreds run into a couple of thousands. Check its MOT history if you haven't already done so. Mike

  6. As Scribe said, it's banger money and £1100 sounds to be reasonable looking at the pictures. A couple of things I noticed. The passenger temp display is playing up by the looks of it. What's the seat belt buckle in the drivers socket,? unless it was driven by an expectant mum? Other than that it's corrosion on the underside that needs looking for, but you can expect some it is 16 years old

  7. Someone has already been too look at this one recently I think. Its last MOT had a long list of advisories that would need close inspection, it has also sat around for at least the last year and before that it hasn't done much and if kept on grass once again it will need careful and close inspection of the underneath. My advice would be to leave this one alone. What were you thinking of paying? Mike.

  8. This thread is making me very twitchy about owning a LS400 - if the crunch comes then she will have to go to that scrapyard in the sky.

  10. Given the time that you have had the car and the low mileage you have covered I would think that it would be covered under Sale of Goods Act. You may find that Bolton service will say not covered by warranty and any claim under S of G Act would probably be referred to their sales dept. Either way you should be covered.

  11. From my experience, a certain driving style accompanies the majority of Audi and BMW owners. I wouldn't want to be associated with that style of driving.

  13. There you go (did a search on "latitude"), http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/76778-tyre-recommendations http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/102688-tyre-choice http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/101365-new-tyres-time-rx450h http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/97969-tyres-again There may be other threads... Incidentally, I run mine of 35psi, although I would recommend 33psi if driving in snow as this would ensure better contact with the road...

  14. I thought you literally press the button and flick the thing down to set it? Not complicated at all. Then you just hit it up and down to adjust speed.

  15. Ye I still have mine . Gotta say . Think they saved my car from crashing . http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/crash-left-one-car-roof-10703429 i passed this crash just after it happened . I could have been the 4wd or tyres . But only the tyres were on the ice . Definitely won't be scrimping on tyres ever again . As for comfort and sound . Best tyre I've had :)

  16. I haven't had a mail, telling me when somebody posts on a thread, for months now. Mind you, I think I prefer that to getting other peoples mail! It's funny, most things have improved over the years, but using the internet has become a pain in the arse, more so with each supposed "improvement".

  17. it's not my car. Story is like this. A neighbour died and their relatives cannot find the key. So the other neighbour's have seen me working on my car and thought I could help them. These other neighbour want the car out of the street so they can get a parking space for themselves. the next of kin don't seem interested and I do not think they can afford anything. Car has been sitting there for nearing a year now. So I am just trying to understand how much keys will cost to start the banger out of the way. done about 130k miles and has advisories.

  19. Hi there Lexus lovers!!! My name is Greg and i bought a Lexus IS250 manual 8 months ago with 55K on the clock. As from the last oil service i punched 8K miles in the car, i think it's time for an oil service, but also i would like to change the fluids in the car. Please Guys and Girls help me out here a bit, as some of You have much more experience what brand/quality of fluids are the best for my car. I am planning to change: Engine Oil Transmission Oil(manual) Diffgerential oil Engine coolant Brake Fluid Air filter Oil filter Pollen filter Fuel filter My Question would be if there is anything else to change (eg if the steering assist is hydraulic or if there is a crankshaft ventillation filter) and what types of oils and fluids do You reccommend. Thank You for Your help, hope to have a forum meeting some day!!

  20. Using Rain X gives you a false sense of security as it makes the glass seem clear whereas the conditions are totally opposite. The thunderstorm last Saturday on the M1 was atrocious, I had my window sealant on and could see everything yet, I still slowed down. Visibility may not be an issue but tyres can't see, they can only adhere to the surface and rely on the driver to adapt to the conditions. Now if you removed that sealant and drove in the same conditions, you'd understand exactly how heavy the rain was. 70mph in a modern car is safe in the dry - heck I go at 100mph in my RX with one hand on the steering wheel. But if its wet, you aren't going to stop anywhere near as quick as you would in the dry and that makes all the difference so you need to reduce your speed. It doesn't matter if you're David Cameron or John Smith, heavy rain means reduce your speed. If you're having traction issues, it definitely means you need to slow down.
