  1. It's definitely worth it. No other colour comes up like this.............

  2. That would be me! News travels fast eh? Patrick at Freelance Guernsey was extremely helpful. I made an offer and it was accepted. Sounds like it's in great condition; I bought based on info from here + photos + just generally chatting to Patrick. I haven't seen the car yet and won't see it until it's here in the UK. Anyway, I've spent quite a little while since then sorting everything out to import and register the car. It's being shipped over next week - won't be able to drive it until the UK reg has been assigned. Can't wait. I'll obviously upload some pics once it arrives. I'm not overly hopeful for reduced rate of tax - think it'll be £505 rather than £230. Yes the Guernsey reg document doesn't state emissions but the certificate of conformity does. We shall see! Besides, I'm very happy with the price I've paid vs what I was going to spend had I purchased a C63. It gives me plenty of money left over to get the alloys refurbished and a couple of small scratches to the paintwork. Oh and I'll be getting an H&S exhaust in due course. Cheers

  3. You may want to look beyond the car and consider the overall Lexus ownership experience, which I believe to be better than anything else on the market (as confirmed by JD Power surveys and others) My current car is my 2nd Lexus and will not be the last. Obviously I do like the cars, but even if a Lexus was number 3 out of 3 on my list of favourite cars, I would go for the Lexus every time because of the excellent service I have received from my local dealership. The dealership is always spotlessly clean, the staff friendly without being condescending, professional and knowledgeable, and they will bend backwards to accommodate your needs. Cars are always returned clean inside and out, and ultimately I do not believe that maintenance costs of Lexus cars is any higher than that of the competition, namely Audi, MB or BMW. It is always easy to meet with a service technician if you have a specific query and they routinely send you video reports if required to save you from having to crawl under the car yourself. I accept that this is unimportant to some people, and many will have a cynical view of this, pointing out that customers like me pay for the plush materials in the dealership etc. I can't disagree with that, but in my eyes, it is the same difference as staying in a 5 star hotel or a 2 star hotel. You pay your money and you make your choice. Personally I like the peace of mind that comes with owning a Lexus. I also much prefer the image associated with the brand to that of their German competitors.

  4. I think the rear callipers ARE fairly common. My wife had one done on hers. I've needed both doing...

  5. If they sent you a video of the work that needed doing how can you assume they're fishing for work? The video serves as evidence of the problems does it not?

  6. When you say warranty is this an approved Lexus extended warranty? I understand the hybrid drive warranty has been extended subject to an annual hybrid health check.

  7. The clutch is hydraulically operated so there will be no adjustment for the bite point, does sound like a worn clutch plate. Just because it has only covered 58,000 miles doesn't mean the clutch should still be good, if you or a previous owner qre/was a "clutch rider" it will wear much faster.

  8. I bet it's to replace that modified VIP badged grille Phil, it actually has a slat cut out of it to accomodate the badge. I once had a similar problem and got around it by sending a suitable box stuffed with bubblewrap and a prepaid return label using one of the cheap online couriers ( I use Myhermes but others are available). All the seller had to do was wrap the bubble wrap around the part put it in the box, reseal it and stick the label on, they even collect. Total cost both ways should be under a tenner.

  9. The engine is still quiet when cruising, it's only at 3500-4000 rpm when it would starts to sound aggressive. Motorway cruising is pretty much similar to stock as it's only running at 2500 rpm. Hard acceleration on motorway or from stationary is when it's most prominent.

  11. I don't really worry about fuel consumption as I feel the pleasure of driving my lexus on a daily basis far outweighs any negative. We took a trip down to devon recently and where I would normally achieve around 280 mpg around town I was astounded when the light came on for low fuel and I had covered 414 miles! I am well pleased with that and considering we had a weekend bag AND my wife's mobility scooter in the boot I think that was brilliant. On the way home the computer average mpg was displaying 29.2, what a great car

  12. Just to reference your question re Lexus Bolton, I've had my IS250 in for a recall and a service and I've no cause for complaint. They did a very good valet job on it too.

  13. Honestly have no complaints. Had a bit of snow (very little I should say) but nevertheless the tyres did very well. They are still as quiet as day one, Ive put more than 7k miles on them now and wear is too little to care. Its gone down maybe 1mm in 7k so if that keeps going I still have another 25k+ left on them theoretically. Very comfortable tyres too, they soak up the bumps really well compared to the Dunlop SP Sport 270 with better grip too. Ive been running them on 36psi and they feel very surefooted and comfortable, not to mention smoooooth. I got mine done at Lexus and my wheels were left in the same condition as they went in. I paid £50 for all 4 fitting and supplied tyres myself which is an option I guess.

  14. You should use the aircon all the time. Apart from anything else, using it keeps the seals in good order - they dry out if it's not used. The lubrication oil in the gas is essential for keeping the seals working. Using aircon has no, or negligible effect on fuel consumption on these cars and it is designed to be on all the time. It doesn't affect the temperature in the car unless it's really hot outside (that is set by the climate control) and in winter you are warming up dry air rather than damp air. The most important function of aircon is drying the air in the car, not providing cooling.

  15. That ebay battery is wrongly advertised as fitting an LS 400. If you go to the Varta site you'll see. The + and - posts are on the front, not the back where they should be and the cranking amps are too low. You need E23 not D47.

  16. Hi lex, have the same car as you and confirm very similar consumption, which I have reported on this forum as fantastic. Long may it continue, Roger

  17. I think it should be driven north until it gets to Dudley where it can gain a FLSH, a new cambelt, £500.00 on the price and then it would be described as "Very nice indeed" :) Seriously, the gold badges are OEM Lexus and are apparently 24CT gold plated.

  18. I can certainly recommend an extended warranty. You don't need to buy the car from a Lexus dealer to buy the additional warranty. I know first hand that it's one of the most comprehensive warranties I have ever had. Really does put your mind at ease. It will set you back around £900 for two years but worth every penny. I have had exhaust, shocks, water pump and engine oil leaks replaced and repaired all under the warranty. These are reliable cars but like all cars with this amount of technology, when things do need fixing they attend to be a little more expensive. Carl
