  1. If your like me, the best part about owning a Lexus is the nice toys and technology that Lexus offer. I've recently swapped my IS220D SE-L for a IS250 SE, The SE-L was fitted with the illuminated door sills that light up "Lexus" when you open the doors, a really nice feature which should be standard in my opinion. Unfortunately my 250 SE only had the basic plastic sills that look a bit cheap on a Luxury car so i pulled off the plastic ones to find that the cars are fitted as standard with the plug for the illuminated sills, so I thought I could just buy the illuminated sills and plug them in. Unfortunately it turned out that this is not the case, all the cars do indeed have the plug however the plug is only wired in on the Luxury and sports spec models, to get around this problem you need to do some basic home wiring which I will show you now. Please note: I take no responsibility for any damage done to your vehicle while following this guide. For this modification you will need the following: 1-2M of Auto Wire 4x Scotch Locks A Pair of Bull Nose Pliers A Pair of Snips Stanley Knife/Craft knife Step 1: Remove the existing door sills to reveal the wiring loom underneath ( A bit of brute force pulling straight up will remove the sills) Step 2: Using a Stanley Knife or Craft knife, carefully cut away the electrical tape that covers the wires that go into the door sill connector (Be particularly careful not to cut into any wires in the loom). Step 3: Take your Auto Wire and 1 scotch lock and Scotch lock your auto wire and the White wire going into the Door Sill Connector together (Leave the blue wire as it is). Step 4: Remove the interior trim that covers the seat belt tensioner system (to aid this process put the seat in the fully back position and the backrest all the way back, and open the rear door. Again some force will release the clips holding the panel on). Step 5: Locate the wire that connects to the Door switch, it sits on the inside of the pillar behind the switch. (A White Wire on the drivers side and Purple on the Passengers side, shown in the image above). Step 6: Trace your auto wire around the current loom to reach the Door Switch wire behind the seat belt panel. (when doing this ensure that your auto wire cannot rub on the seat belt as it moves back and forth during use). Step 7: Take a Scotch lock and scotch lock the Door Switch wire and auto wire together (Ensure you don't short out the wire on the vehicle's body work while using metal tools. I also wrapped some electrical tape around the scotch lock to ensure nothing metal would contact the bodywork in the future). Step 8: Plug in your illuminated door sills to ensure they are working correctly, when you push the Door switch the Sills should shut off and then light up when the switch is released. (If your Sills don't light up please check to see if you have your interior light switch set to come on when the doors open). Step 9: When you are happy that everything is working correctly, push the interior trim panels back into place. Some pressure on the areas should clip everything back in to place. Finished Product. I hope this guide was helpful, if i've missed anything or you have any questions please post here and I will endeavour to help the best I can.

  2. I noticed a navigation update in the Lexus Portal. It is entitled "Route & Traffic optimisation" worth updating your system and its free. Maybe it will make the system choose more sensible routes!! Ed

  3. Having recently sold my series IV LS400 I have now gone and purchased another one, this was advertised on Gumtree and was fairly local to me near Sheffield so I went to take a look. It's a 1999 model with 134,000 miles on the clock with a full black leather interior, few bits need doing, electric aeriel fixed today with a new insert, driver's door mirror has been glued in position, brake warning light is on along with the washer level warning light. CD cartridge is missing ( does anyone have a spare?) but has bluetooth fitted. Cambelt is ready so will be doing the full kit with parts ordered from the USA. Pretty clean all round but needs a good valet and polish. MOT until end of July. Bought it before it went to Dudley and it gained a FLSH and new cambelt to become indeed a very nice example :) The ad photos weren't great so here is the best of them, I'll post some post valet ones up over the weekend (if the weather holds fine). 4. I must say I've never had any problems with my battery so maybe something that will never arise , but I think if you're going to leave any car for nine weeks you going to have a bit of trouble starting it when you come back not just the RX400h Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

  5. I haven't had a mail, telling me when somebody posts on a thread, for months now. Mind you, I think I prefer that to getting other peoples mail! It's funny, most things have improved over the years, but using the internet has become a pain in the arse, more so with each supposed "improvement".

  6. John.. Nothing is dropped. merely needs re-adding back. It was a custom field before and I am looking to fix now. Also, I am not gonna get in to a debate about the layout, or listen to someone who is getting shirty with us. Constructive comments are what I am looking for here. We don't have to consult members, that would be too much work deciding who wants what and a huge debate. It is what it is and it wouldn't change a thing, the forum got updated purely to keep it safe and secure for everyone to enjoy. it's a forum which also is in a vanilla format state, meaning I have not made massive alterations. So this means I can tinker with things to make things easier from the feedback i am seeing.

  7. Change was due to progression of the software. We cannot run with old software and run the risk of security. The only parts I see that are different in the way the forum flows is the top Navigation. 1. Latest Posts Button (looking to add a new button next week) 2. The top section now says Browse instead of forums, Clicking Browse will do the same thing as the old forums link. It will take you back to the menu. 3. The latest Activity stream encompasses everything about the community. But if you want just a list of latest threads then bookmark this link http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/discover/7/ If you want a link top right of your forums to say "Latest Posts" and it display only topics like before then you can do so by this guide: However, Next week I will try and put a new button in. As for that, The flow is exactly the same, it just looks slightly different. We cannot go back to the old theme, This software is up to date. The current theme is completely out of the box, apart from colours and logo. There are many new updates with the new version, one is the movie side of the site is now much better than before. Please stick with it guys. We are trying our best to get it smoothed out. Thanks

  8. It's no good just clearing the fault codes as if the problem is still present they will only come back. What are the codes? Post them up and then we can take a look for you and advise, changing parts without a proper investigation is the most expensive way to fix a car.

  9. You can always check up on your cars MOT history by going on here https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history Mike.

  10. All is well. Passed with flying colours and the MOT cost was covered by the dealer. They'd marked the account up to say they would cover any costs. I dont think they could have done it as early as November Mikey, I think there's a limit to how early it can be done. I'm just pleased there was no hassle and they kept their word. Mr thar dropped it off first thing and they ran him into work afterwards. They let him know when it was ready and picked him up from work to go and collect it, can't fault that for personal service! 11. And this: <quote> In the United States, for regulation purposes, government authorities allow cars of a given model year to be sold starting on January 1 of the previous calendar year. For example, this means that a 2017 model year vehicle can legally go on sale on January 1, 2016. <end quote> That has led to pretty much any vehicle bought during eg 2015 being referred to as a '2016 model' even if it technically isn't. If you bought a car this week, wouldn't you like to refer to it as a 2017, especially as your neighbour might be buying what is actually a '2017 model year' in a few months' time. So now it's common practice. It has always been dodgy to rely on year to identify a vehicle when buying parts, which is why dealers insist on a VIN number. But US and European VIN numbers are completely different and indeed UK/European VIN numbers are not commonly or easily available to parts sellers in the US. You just have to be careful and aware of the convention!

  12. Just so you know, the suspension sensors are actually £350 each+ fitting. But as you say, they can be taken apart and lubricated and resealed. I had one replaced, and one freed up and resealed. If the radiator coolant leaks into the transmission you won't get any warning as such, then it'll be too late. A very easy job to replace the rad, about 1-1.5 hours. it also means you can refill with fresh coolant from Toyota for about £25.

  13. Ive always found that Lexus brakes on the general are quite good in terms of performance and longevity. I understand that my RX has regenerative braking BUT, Ive been impressed with how well it stops from speed and also the fact that I have only had 30% wear in 3 years. The IS300h brakes feel much stronger although they dust a lot as well, but nothing a clean can't sort out. The merc C class on the other hand had ******* brakes and it was only when changing to the IS did I realise this.

  14. You can get all the parts at a Toyota parts counter: Timing belt Water pump & gasket Tensioner Aux belt Spark plugs Toyota Pink Coolant And of course if you are doing a service at the same time, oil & filter and air & cabin filters. I would thoroughly recommend getting the spark plugs changed at the same time when all the stuff is off the engine if you plan on keeping the car for the next 2+ years - all your major items are then taken care of for another 100k then! :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. Level should never be checked cold, check when engine has been running for 10/15 mins. The following link gives extremely good info on the subject. http://www.agcoauto.com/content/news/p2_articleid/89

  16. The Gold badges are available from your local store ebay together with the awful V8 badge. I have always thought the gold badges which I don't think have anything to do with Lexus are the vehicle equivalent of the medallion man look back in the 70s and 80s. Mike.

  18. Hi Phil I agree with you. I use an independent to work on my car. I insist on Oem parts which he buys. In his experience, that is his preference because he knows they will fit, plus as you say if anything goes wrong you have a warranty. You can get everything cheaper if you look!! , but not always best solution, Rgds, Roger

  19. Hi Stu, have tried many other vehicles - always been a porsche fan and will probably revert at some point so 991c2S was obvious choice. BMW lent me an M4 but found I had to have every button pressed to match my driving style, tried an RS5 for the day and apart from Launch control wasn't that impressed (bland interior), tried a Ghibli - way overpriced and an M5 is a better car plus many others...... Loved the bizarre look of the RC-F so went for the looks but love the interior and ML sound. Still have to learn to play with the TVD thingy-me-bob. Still not seen another one on the road = result. Cheers Steve.
