  1. Having recently sold my series IV LS400 I have now gone and purchased another one, this was advertised on Gumtree and was fairly local to me near Sheffield so I went to take a look. It's a 1999 model with 134,000 miles on the clock with a full black leather interior, few bits need doing, electric aeriel fixed today with a new insert, driver's door mirror has been glued in position, brake warning light is on along with the washer level warning light. CD cartridge is missing ( does anyone have a spare?) but has bluetooth fitted. Cambelt is ready so will be doing the full kit with parts ordered from the USA. Pretty clean all round but needs a good valet and polish. MOT until end of July. Bought it before it went to Dudley and it gained a FLSH and new cambelt to become indeed a very nice example :) The ad photos weren't great so here is the best of them, I'll post some post valet ones up over the weekend (if the weather holds fine). 2. I wouldn't change the cluster if I were you. I don't know if Lexus have the same idea as BMW but I was going to do the same with my BMW but members of the BMW forum said No, No, No. Apparently mileage is recorded in several places throughout the vehicle and unless they all tally, the mileage tamper indicator will activate. This condition will remain of course because there will be a mismatch between the cluster and the rest of the car by the amount of mileage you did during the swap. Tread carefully

  3. John.. Nothing is dropped. merely needs re-adding back. It was a custom field before and I am looking to fix now. Also, I am not gonna get in to a debate about the layout, or listen to someone who is getting shirty with us. Constructive comments are what I am looking for here. We don't have to consult members, that would be too much work deciding who wants what and a huge debate. It is what it is and it wouldn't change a thing, the forum got updated purely to keep it safe and secure for everyone to enjoy. it's a forum which also is in a vanilla format state, meaning I have not made massive alterations. So this means I can tinker with things to make things easier from the feedback i am seeing.

  4. The light does not need resetting. It goes out instantly as soon as the fault is fixed. If the alternator is charging correctly, then it sounds as if the problem is with the wire that connects the alternator to the light (or that the alternator isn't compatible, or has an internal fault which causes it to send the wrong diagnostic signal). On the IS220, the alternator the light is controlled by the blue/black wire from the alternator which runs to the dash. If this wire isn't connected, then the light will come on, or if the alternator is putting the wrong voltage on this wire, then the light will come on. It should be fairly straight forward for an auto electrician to check if the alternator is putting the correct 12 V signal on this wire. On the IS250, the alternator communicates with the ECU directly, and the ECU communicates digitally with the dash via CANbus. In this case, there is a red wire running from the alternator to the ECU which carries the "alternator working correctly" signal.

  5. This thread is full of a lot of misinformation. As Colin has said the vvti doesn't kick in at all. It's a constant variable and it operates all the time. What you feel at 4500rpm is the acis valve. the ACIS system uses a single intake air control valve located in the intake to vary the length of the intake tract in order to optimize power and torque, as well as provide better fuel efficiency. By altering this valve you will not get better performance. In fact it will be detrimental. Toyota worked out how to optimise power and torque from the 1gfe engine using the acis system, they knew what they were doing. So no, a lot of people haven't deleted the acis valve with good results.

  6. Ian, I look forward to hearing about the replacement. Last year, I bought an E39 530 Sport (2003 5 series BMW). It was the much sought after Champagne edition. I had wanted one for ages. I had it 3 months during which time all it did was go wrong and the drive was not quite as I had imagined. God I'm glad I didn't get rid of the Lexus. BWM now sold and back in the IS200. Which doesn't go wrong.

  7. It's no good just clearing the fault codes as if the problem is still present they will only come back. What are the codes? Post them up and then we can take a look for you and advise, changing parts without a proper investigation is the most expensive way to fix a car.

  8. I think it should be driven north until it gets to Dudley where it can gain a FLSH, a new cambelt, £500.00 on the price and then it would be described as "Very nice indeed" :) Seriously, the gold badges are OEM Lexus and are apparently 24CT gold plated.

  9. VVT-i doesn't kick in at 4500 rpm or 3000 rpm. This isn't a Honda VTEC switching to different cam lobs at a set rpm. The first V in the name standard for variable - not sudden jump. The ACIS does kick in around 4,500 rpm on the IS200 to shorten the intake
