  1. I want to say a big, big thank you to Steve the moderator who very kindly went to Pontefract to look at an LS400 for me. He even paid a deposit! It saved me travelling 270 miles to see a car that may have been no good. All I've got to do now is get up there to pick it up! Thanks again Steve, you're an absolute credit to the LOC, not everyone would have gone out of their way like that! Phil

  3. So, about 2 months ago I decided to try RainX. Positives: Works great on the M'way especially when been sprayed by a truck. Dirt doesn't seem to stick to the window Easier to De-ice. Negatives: Due to the water beading up, and no wind hitting the rear screen it didn't really clear the rear screen like I hoped. Again due to the water beading up I actually think it made it harder to look out of the rear and side windows, especially at night, when street lights / car lights lit up the water beads. Need to be travelling at speed for it work on the front and side windows. Again due to the beading the water doesn't evaporate as quickly. Fogging appeared about 3 weeks after application when the wipers were used. not sure if I'd recommend it or not, maybe for the front screen, but not the sides and rears.

  9. Hello everyone. I am Chuck and just bought a RX300, although a very old one by todays standards nevertheless a one owner and low mileage job. Reading up on these cars there seems to be an inherent problem with the computer side of modern cars and Lexus doesn't escape. The mechanicals work fine and it runs like a dream but Oh! those sensors! After a diagnostic visit to a local Lexus dealer I have been informed that VSC and engine management lights are common (You would have thought that it could have been sorted by now) and the sensor at BANK 2 is the culprit. Now the chap at the dealership is a modern quick fast-draw type that gabbles on 60 to dozen but I did mange to digest momentary, the diagram of the offending part. Am I correct in thinking that the Oxygen sensor (#L89467-48011) is the one clearly visible on the exhaust pipe right up front (nearest Grill). It would appear that there are three to choose from! I see these sensors are available from the USA at around $50 and as I deal with America on a regular basis I have no problem buying from there, I assume the part numbers are the same! As you may have gathered I am Old-School and after a career of charging around the country-side here and mainland Europe in new(ish) cars and just dumping the car in for service each month (at 60-70K miles per year service intervals were that quick around) I am on a steep learning curve. My other cars are pre 1960's and the nearest thing to a computer on my old Rovers are light-bulbs! Any thoughts or pointer would be appreciated.

  10. I think you possibly answered your own question there Steve. Glad I don't have the auto folding mirror come winter, my uncle has them and he has sat on the drive waiting for them to work.

  11. .In fact it is a 1963 P5 3 litre Coupe'; one of the first few Coupe's made in the first production year 1963. The photo was taken at the New Year Day run from Sturminster Newton, Dorset. I also tow a similar age Cheltenham PUKU caravan with it! Thank you for your interest

  13. It's worth posting this just because it's so bad! I went to Horsham in Sussex today to view a green 1999 LS 400 V203 ELL If it appears again, and I'm sure it will, don't bother if you're looking for one. The eBay listing said "In great condition, inside and out" They also said it has full service history, and a cam belt change. I went out the back where it was parked, the first thing I saw was a fair sized dent in the drivers door, with a smaller one behind. a piece of chrome trim hanging off, a broken rear light, tyres with shiny edges, a rust bubble on the rear wing, and a mouldy boot interior. The aerial didn't work (although he had a spare) and the bonnet wouldn't stay up (but I suppose that's expected) The wheels were very bad. I popped the bonnet, and held it up with a stick, the transmission oil was brown, and the engine oil was dark and only came halfway up the dipstick. There was a VSC check message displayed on the dash. The interior was so filthy that even a professional valeting company may have declined to do it. I tried to start the engine but it was completely out of fuel. Then came the service record. The last stamp was in 2007 which meant there was 90K and nearly 9 years of non history. Still, on the positive side, it had 3 keys and the steering column motor worked, but that was it. And I nearly forgot, there was some damage to the internals of a headlight and a chip on the windscreen. Sad really to see such a car totally neglected, and it's only had two owners from new!

  14. IIRC the series IV LS400 was fitted with either conventional halogen or HID headlights. The HID lights have adjustors for both vertical and horizontal plane movement. If anyone would like the adjustment section of the OEM manual please send me your email address by PM.

  17. I've used wax and found it a pain in terms of streaks. I can recommend angelwax h2go and gtechniq rain repellants. They require much less speed to flick water off so keeps screen clear

  19. If the lights are brand new and they are still rubbish I'd say there's something wrong with your car. I've got HID's now, but I could see fine with the standard 60w halogen bulbs. My guess would be maybe your car has had a bump somewhere along the line and put the light mounts a long way out of line. Take it to a garage and get them to check the alignment before you spend any more money on it.
