  1. Just a wee update... Got rears balanced at premier tyres Hamilton with their road force balancer, old weights were removed and new weights added (in a totally different position to the weights that were removed) so looks like original garage done a poor balance job?? All seems good now, so I'm happy :-) All the best for the new year everyone! John

  2. Thanks chaps - useful advice and both are easy for me to check. On the noise, I have an unhappy memory of buying a W124 Mercedes that had had a replacement windscreen, and whoever had done it created wind noise at anything over about 55mph.

  3. Got mine replaced on the insurance. Paid excess of £75. AA did it. No problem with the screen itself, but ensure the fitter has replaced the wiper blades in the right position before he leaves,as they could either bang on the scuttle or on the pillar.

  4. I'm here all week, twice on Saturdays. I try and offer advice where I can, but reserve the right to take the pizz when I feel it's required.

  5. Talking of which, I was in Eastbourne last summer, looking for a parking space near the tennis courts, when a tall, well-dressed woman with blonde hair stepped out into the road and waved me to a stop. And it was her - Joanna Lumley. She wanted to know where the entrance to the College Chapel was. I didn't know, but SO wanted to be able to help her - or better still, say, 'Hop in, Joanna, I'll take you there.' I could have opened the back door for her, chauffeur-style. She also has an LS, which is possibly why she stopped ME?

  6. John, some Mk.4s were fitted with the Dynamic Handling Pack which included different wheels (with low profile tyres) and slightly lowered suspension. (Mine is the normal one.) In fact some Mk.3s also had this - they were the two-tone green and grey ones around 1996-1997. They're supposed to feel a bit sportier but I don't know how much, or whether you'd notice the difference. I agree about the SatNav. It's address only (no postcode) and mine tells me I've reached home when I'm still half a mile (and several roads) away. Also I've turned the voice off because the woman's a bit abrupt and scary. I'd prefer Joanna Lumley.

  7. I really wanted a silver one (with black upholstery) but now I like the green - I think it suits the character of the car. Smooth and majestic sounds like how I drive, but it wasn't me!

  9. It's working as designed. I wouldn't worry. The fan will stay on even if the heater is on

  10. I think the length of the beam is due to the lower design of the car. On my RX the length of the LED beam is great and outshines pretty much every other car on the road to the point of people moving over on motorways at night almost immediately. With the RX I can imagine it won't dazzle other drivers as much as the beam will be set lower to get the same distance due to the lights being higher in the first place. On the IS if they put the beam higher, it'll dazzle other road users.

  11. i have them on my IS300H F-Sport. the intensity and "whiteness"of the light is Ok ,but the length of the beam is not far enough. driving on a dark B road you have to adapt your speed or swicth to highbeam which is not always possible. In town OK but i will switch them for Xenon immediately.

  12. Thanks, I thought I'd broke it. :) Don't know how I did it though, old age is beginning to show.

  15. You have to stop believing all these stories that all these great blokes tell you. All they are really after is that money in your bank account and they will say anything that helps them get it. Mike.I bought my LS430 off him and I think I've got a good one, yes it has a few minor niggles which I've mentioned on this site which I am in the process of sorting out but it is definitely more credit to its first owner rather than Baz, the first owner was a doctor who bought it new in 2002 until Feb this year, he is the one who has had it serviced more than 20 times at the same Lexus dealer he bought it from and maintained it regardless of expense, it shows too!! It's done more than 200k miles and drives as good as new. He's had more than enough LS400s and LS430s (he has pictures of them all on Facebook) for both him and his wife to know what they are like so I don't buy the "my wife doesn't like it" story at all. It seems he bought it then probably found out about its past so then couldn't get it on eBay quick enough using his wife as the excuse but has then been rumbled so he's had to come clean about the cat c write off status. It's the fact he's getting another LS400 that made me think because if his wife didn't like the one he's just sold then she certainly won't like this one either!!! I always try and give people the benefit of the doubt but I'm not sure about this one now... BTW this is the new one he's getting... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-Lexus-LS400-4-0-V8-/161912160817?hash=item25b2b78231:g:ywwAAOSwbdpWZx3L It doesn't look like he's actually bought it yet because as you can see it's still for sale. I notice although it passed, one of the advisories is its rear exhaust is missing? I would have thought that was a fail. I think its just goes to show that where ever your buying from you have got to keep your wits about you and if you ask questions which are met with what you think is bull**** or they become agitated then walk. Remember you are buying a fairly rare car and there are going to be lots of dogs out there but perseverance and patience will reward you. There is nothing wrong with someone buying a car to sell on purely to make money, we do live in a capitalist society what is wrong is hiding the fact you are a trader and telling stupid stories, lies as to why they are selling the car also not divulging the cars full history when they know what it is. Just be on your guard no matter how nice the bloke, woman or garage is you are buying from. Mike.
