  1. Hi All, Just thought I would share my experience with others as the posts in this forum certainly helped me get through my air suspension problem on my 2004 RX300 SE-L at 86000 miles. I made a 3 point turn and heard a loud metallic clunk noise coming from the rear of the car when I reversed. All seemed ok when I drove home that evening. Next morning, I drove the car and the ride was very strange and felt bouncing but steered ok without drifting. I looked down at the dash and discovered the yellow "OFF" light slowly blinking under the H-N-L indicator. When I stopped I could not hear the suspension air pump operating. I turned off ignition then back on and the OFF came on but went out again. but when I started to drive the OFF indicator began flashing again. I read the posts of Chris Kaye and others and assumed the suspension ECU had gone into safe mode to protect the pump. However, the suspension remained stable and level in the N position and stuck in the N setting. All this did happen and Chris was correct. I took the car to my local garage who plugged in a diagnostic reader and discovered the code C1714 present in the system. This was defect on Rear Nearside height sensor. I was quoted approx £400 for a new Lexus sensor or £250 for a used Ebay supply. However, on closer inspection the mechanic noticed a metal piece on the rear sensor was broken and after a bit of basic engineering, fabricating a metal repair the assembly was put back together and system tested. The ECU did not need to be cleared by disconnecting the car battery as the pump just started to level up the car again. minor adjustments were made and the Yellow OFF blinking disappeared and the up/down switch became active again raising and lowering the car as it should. A test drive proved faultless and a final bill for £97 sent me on my way with a large smile knowing I had a lucky escape of not having to pay a mega large bill for a pump, sensors or air bag struts. A simple fix indeed after my initial concerns. Many thanks to all who posted on here it certainly helps anyone to steer in the right course in problem solving without running off to the Lexus main dealer every time. Phil

  2. Dropped the car at the dealership, supposedly a simply lead out place, quick wash, car handed back, all is well!

  3. I'm starting to believe you Mike, he's always saying things like my wife doesn't like this Ls or that Ls and then goes and buys another. I wouldn't be suprised that in a couple of weeks he advertises the ls400 he's just bought and says something like I miss the ls430 or I'm looking for a different colour ls400 or ls430

  4. Hi everyone, Finally picked up my new "baby" at the weekend and I'm loving it. I love the colour combination and everyone that sees it has commented on the colour and the great look of the car. I must say the handover at Lexus Coventry was great. The car was in its own handover showroom with a black drape over the car when we arrived. My son videoed the unvailing as the salesman pulled the cover off the car - quite dramatic! I was then shown over the car and talked through all the features and finally when I was happy and understood where most things were I drove the car out of the showroom. The only downside to the day was the weather! I've only put about 100 miles on the car so far and still haven't tried out all the "toys" but will do so over the coming days/weeks for sure but my initial feelings are the car is very nice indeed - the car handles well, is very comfortable and quiet and the ML stereo sounds epic (to my ears anyway). I'm very happy with my purchase. I know MPH is important (although it wasn't my main reason for buying the NX) and at the moment since picking the car up I'm getting around 34mpg but it is early days of course. I will be taking the car over the Xmas holidays to North Wales and will have a better idea how it handles longer trips then. I will give a more indepth review once I've put a few more miles on the car but for now Christmas has come early! :hohoho:

  5. "Hard & Fast Rule" They do on Autotrader, if you advertise more than 6 (I think) cars in a year they do it automatically that you are a trader. Don't know why Ebay cant do the same. Mike. yep gumtree has a similar rule in place Just looking at the same car on gumtree, got there putting 07555920534 in google. Where does it say whether trade or private? Not saying it doesn't, just that I can't see it. thats being sold by lexuschap Trade Yes, I realise that, but where does it actually say it's a trade ad? Couldn't see that, don't for get Gumtree belongs to Ebay so I doubt they are really bothered. Mike Does it really, I didn't know that. I'm sure you're correct about them not being bothered, nobody seems to be these days, it's all about the money.

  9. Yeah the UK Lexus RX 300-400 shocks are oil filled KYB units. Do you think they are an overly 'hard' ride on the 400h? Some of the Monroe units are gas filled which are much 'softer' but I'm not sure if they'll last as long. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. There's another thread on here, Phil, about where you can source a metal rod replacement that I think your mechanics patched up for you (in case the patch doesn't hold) - the parts are around £15 from memory! Most importantly, you now know the name of the 'bit' - the height sensor, in case you have to search the forum! :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. If it hasn't had a belt change then at 11yrs old, I'd get straight onto it - cheaper than being stranded and a new engine! I recently had my '53 reg rx300 with 102k done as we were unsure if it had ever had the belt changed before. Whilst at the garage, I got the water pump & gasket, tensioner and spark plugs changed for £500 inc VAT, although it was a non-Lexus garage. This means all major service items are covered for at least 5yrs/another 100k. The mechanics found that half the spark plugs had been changed previously and also the timing belt, however the water pump and tensioner weren't. The pump was sound but the gasket had developed a leak and the old tensioner looked very worn. You shouldn't need idler pulleys/rollers changed this time round, they aren't a common problem at all, and your garage should spin them with the belt off to see if they are noisy or if the bearings have gone - only then would they need replacing & they will tell you. They can be costly! Ta, Chris.

  13. Yh I put that one in the first post I posted. Its temperamental though, sometimes it shows other times it doesnt for some reason. Does this one work? http://listers.co.uk/Used/Cars/Lexus/RX/450h_3.5_Luxury/197498 Thats a great example that one - Interior is in good condition and it has rear DVD players too. And the price is good too £29995. Id say you could get them to £27995! The only thing I can see is that its had budget tyres fitted but apart from that its great. Get them to change the tyres and drop the price and its a winner!

  14. The inside trim on the tailgate is held on with clips and is just pulled off towards you. Start with one corner and then work from there. Once you have got one clip off you will be able to see what you are doing. Make sure that you just take off the lower trim, not the bits by the glass on the sides.

  15. Not yet. Rock Auto didn't have all of the required parts in stock when I last looked, so I held off. I need to speak to a local mechanic to see what shocks they can order for the RX, as I can't seem to find any from a UK supplier. I was hoping to avoid the OEM shocks as I think Lexus may have supplied slightly firmer ones for the UK market.

  16. Hi time boy, It may not be dead! If the compressor runs for more than 90secs cause one or more of you airbags are "leaky" or a height control sensor is bad, the computer will disable the system for 10mins of driving once the car is fully warmed up (fault code C1752 is logged). It will then let the compressor come back on again, but will disable it after another 90secs of continuous operation but this time for 70mins of driving - the problem is that this is a cumulative 70mins and the car has to be driven or complete a warm up (the countdown then begins) and then cool down (the countdown stops). Several short trips will take a while before the system resets. During all the above it appears that your compressor may be dead but it is just the computer protecting it! Unlike most usual faults that clear after 3 starts, warm up and stops (ignition cycles) this one has the timer to factor in as well. I have a similar situation with mine at the moment and I also thought it was compressor related, testing fuses and relays etc. I've not taken my compressor apart but believe it is in the boot space or around that area. If you want to test if it is the above, you could try resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery for half an hour or if you take it to Toyota/Lexus (or independent) get them to read and give you the fault codes and reset/clear them. It takes about 10minutes and they plug a device or laptop into the connector under the dash near the bonnet release. Hope this helps!
