  1. Thank to Jason....I was starting to think it was just me....and that I had somehow bought a rogue 460 ... I had my 400 MK3 for 6 years and it had 120,000 on when I bought it....I did another 90,000 of the happiest motoring I had ever experienced in 30 odd years of driving... The main reason I ended up going for a 460 was a bit of rust on the 400....around the arches and the windscreen....I paniced a bit over nothing....if I had the chance again....and know what I know now...I would have spent as much as it cost treat the 400 to a full Top Notch respray....and still own the best car I have ever owned. Fact is a friend of mine has always admired the car....and when I was set on a 460 I gave it to him as a gift.... the 460...was a one owner car with 9,000 miles on....I did not even test drive it....went on the train from Cumberland to Turriff....near Aberdeen....and drove it back through the night... I knew in the first mile I had made a mistake....but I thought wait a minute....this is a 460...ten years younger than my old 400....with only 9000 miles on....it MUST be Me. We set off for Venice a few days later....drove there non stop...took 26 hours from Cumberland....and every mile was full of thoughts of what a pleasure this would be in the old 400....and what a poor experience it was in this 460....BUT I still ...over the next year or so....tried to convince myself I was mistaken. What I didnt like about the 460 : Brakes are almost impossible to judge....like you have no real connection to them....terrible. Steering was a mystery....some days it was OK ish...other days it had a a mind of its own....over one bridge I regularly crossed ...it would dart around as if the Mysterons were driving it ! The steering also felt like an old car with worn out Track Control arms ....worn ball joints etc....wandered around over road irregularities....awful sensation through the steering wheel. Cruise control was so bad I gave up using it...and oh boy did I try to master it....but it mastered ME in the end....far too complicated for its own good. Wind noise around mirrors...tried the well known Internet fix by using a caulking gun on the trim etc....a little better....but still there....better if you put the windown DOWN a few mm ? Tyre noise is a given....and was expected with the quite frankly "Stupid" on a car like this ....low profiles rubber.... Engine lacked low down torque....needed to get it revving to make progress...again....in a car like this...Stupid IMO. Far too many gears....always hunting around... And Mark Levinson my arse....the 400 Stereo was better too. At this point I must again apologise to anyone who is enjoying their 460....I am not here to upset anyone....but to find someone who was a dissapointed as me.... in thinking he was trading UP to a 460....is a relief....I thought I had imagined the whole thing. Things I didnt like about the 400 MK3.....cant open the boot with the engine running.....that was annoying....but thats IT. Again..... just my opinion.....but that 400... is one of.....if not The Best Car ever made.....and to think you can waft around in one... for less than the price of one years depreciation on any new car on the market....well....quite frankly.....if you dont have one....your Crackers.....err...hang on....I havent got one right now.....excuse ?...need a Jeep for the muddy Hounds to jump in the back of. Things I liked on the 460....the looks....it is a Great looking car....with a great interior.....and the rear view camera was a Godsend. Sorry for long post lads....but hey lads......who else would listen ? ?

  2. Hey everyone, Someone recently scraped my IS250's rear bumper in a car park and broke the reflector. As I had no details on who did it, making a insurance claim wasnt the route i wanted to go down. So I decided to just get it sorted myself. Since i was going to be spending money on the repair, I decided to embark on a project to try and do an IS-F rear conversion, and I am happy to say I have successfully completed the project and all installation photos are provided in this thread. Before I proceed with the details, I'd like to say that I know there are some people who do not like the idea and think of it as posing. I personally don't think it is, but to each his own. There are many people out there who genuinely like the look of the stacked ISF tips. I am one of them and because of this i wanted to do this mod. not because i want to look like an ISF or want people to think i got an ISF. It would however be crossing the line and posing if it was de-badged and badged with ISF emblems etc... I'm absolutely happy with my IS250 emblem without the need to disguise it as an ISF or anything else. But like i said to each his own... The total cost of this project including the charges for painting the bumper at a bodyshop was £650. The parts here in the UK are way too expensive. So I purchased everything except the bumper from Lexus Japan and hence made quite a saving. I previously had a Tom's Rear Lip on the rear bumper which I will be auctioning on eBay shortly. Here are the pictures and details from start to finish. Note: In the pictures it may look like the bumper colour is not 100% match but it is actually 99.9% matching. It's just the weather yesterday didnt help the iphone photos Test fitting to make sure bumper will fit before placing order for the most expensive parts. The OEM IS-F Tips and Reflectors: Painted IS-F bumper with one of the tips installed This is how it looks once OEM bumper is removed OEM Exhaust Tip Removed Tailpipe has to be cut short, this is how long it is: And this is how short it is after cutting And here comes the IS-F bumper and all photos:

  3. hi Other common issues are: 1) Leaking shocks - these are only available from lexus at the moment 2) Leaking/weeping water pumps 3) Creaking dash which can be annoying 4) Failed transmission oil pumps - lexus will only replace the whole transmission however one member on here "hayne" has successfully repaired his.. 5) there has been a small number of inverter failures which is also very pricey. what mileage is yours and what major components have been replaced?

  4. John / FozzyF - thanks for the extra info. I imagine you are right about parts of various types all being sufficiently similar to work on my GS450h: my first car was a SAAB99 and that had many parts that 'overlapped' with other models (e.g. you could fit points from a Ford Fiesta) that sold for a fraction of the SAAB price - but the trick is knowing what matched what. Given the very strongly links that exist between older Lexus and Toyota models, I am sure that there are equivalences which could be exploited. However, given how hard I have found it to find out the part number of the correct suspension for my car, I imagine the only way I'd find out what Camry part to use etc. would be through experts such as you two sharing the info... which is one of the values of forums like this one I think.

  6. ..... I have adjusted to the boot not being able to be opened with the engine running .................... and with ordinary tyres ( which I have ) just not using it in snow and ice ( coz it does it's own thing ) ...... but as a Grand Tourer and cruising car whatever, whenever and wherever, well, I guess it's just about unsurpassable .......... especially with boy racers next to me at the traffic lights that never manage to outpace me ever ( if I'm in the mood ) Malc

  7. I've just seen the one on eBay for £6,495. It really is mint but I think that it is very overpriced, I really don't think any LS400 is worth that kind of money no matter how good it is. You can bet any money that the one that Baz is selling will drive every bit as good as that one with everything working, the only real difference is that Baz's has done 130k but it is £5,000 cheaper!!! A bit of mileage means absolutely nothing to these cars so there is no point paying well over the odds for a really low mileage example, in fact, cars can have too few miles on them. I'd rather have a car that has had a healthy diet of motorway miles than one that has done about 2 miles a day going to the shops and back.

  8. Looks like our old friend is still knocking around... http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201511198838830?radius=1500&make=lexus&onesearchad=used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew&sort=default&model=is_f&postcode=b315jq&page=1&quicksearch=true&search-target=usedcars&logcode=p No reference to being a police car, and a tug at the heartstrings with a 'change of circumstances'. Maybe if he flogs the other 5 cars he has on ebay his circumstances may improve.

  9. What year was it kevin and what problems, if any, did you have with it? I am aware of the small number of problems which have been reported via this Forum, but nothing wider. I tend to agree with what Michael and Colin have said above, namely that the 450h is a reliable car. Regards John. hi John , no real major issues . It was very reliable . Had it for 3 and half years and was tempted to keep running it but it was time for a change . I bought it with 116k miles and it had full Lexus history which I continued every 10k miles although the last couple were the ones for cars over 5 years . It is due a service now . Apart from the servicing , the rear calipers were replaced and one shocker is leaking . Passed 2 mots like that although dealers kept saying needed replaced I resisted but if was keeping it that would have needed done . No issues with the hybrid system at all but it was always a concern of mine and part of the reason for getting rid so if it does go someone else's problem . I think it was starting to burn a little oil since had to top it up just before the last couple of services . No obvious leaks so think just burning a little . Apart from a couple of minor bodywork issues caused by hitting a deer a couple of years ago the only other problems were the memory seat function stopped working about 3 months ago and the reverse mirror tilt never really worked properly but no big deal . Oh and the passenger side heating wasn't working but again didn't bother me too much . Put it this way it is one of the best cars I have had and have since bought another hybrid rx450 again with high miles for my wife . It is 2009 and has 114k miles so far. Hope that helps .

  10. You check the 5th injector ? White smoke means regeneration PDF. If the first or second sensor not touch 600grC, the regeneration process is incomplete and this leads to more white smoke. This problem is caused by the 5th injector. I have the same problem and next week I have an appointment on service to cleaning 5th injector with ultrasounds.
