  1. I find some of the comments in this thread rather astounding, selfish and distasteful. Safety features should be regarded as good things, intended to protect you, your passengers, pedestrians and other road users. None us as drivers as infallible, and we all make mistakes as do other road users. I would much accept the cost of the added technology - and associated repairs where needed - knowing that I may injure someone rather than kill them... or that my kids may end up with relatively minor injuries rather than become bed ridden after being hit by a car. Some of the many reasons I drive Lexus cars are their safety features and records. And I am glad that airbags, pop up hoods, ABS, TCS and the like are becoming the norm. If money is your only incentive and you are only concerned by how much it is going to cost to repair your car after a collision, be it with a car, pedestrian or other), maybe a modern car such as a Lexus is not for you and you should go for a 70s Skoda. An expensive car will lead to expensive bills. Deal with it... or buy something else. Rant over.

  6. Well, you were right about the new owner cropping up on here - I didn't trade the mk111 in for it though. If you knew how long I'd searched for that exact spec, colour, trim and mileage....you'd realise why I paid £12995

  7. The fun factor I get driving it every day and doing 20k a year or thereabouts is tremendous. I've though about getting another car and decided, nope, sticking with driving the F. It just brightens up my day every time I see it and get into it.

  8. Further to my earlier post returning from "up north" the VSC and engine warning came on again and stayed on. I have relayed my experiences on the similar forum concerning this problem suffice to say it cost me £125 for the new coil - watching the mechanic do the work, I could readily handle coils 2, 4 and 6 but the rest needs pipes moving etc and that's a bit of a no no! I have searched Internet and find that the coils (code 90919-02251 ) vary in price from £ 8.95 ( China) to £ 137 uk plus vat. My garage charged £54 for 1 hour but spent time changing the coils over whilst trying to isolate the fault. No complaints. Love this car.

  9. Hi All, first time poster, but long time reader. I take delivery of my newly acquired IS220d next week. 2010 plate (registered 31-03-10) with 26k on the clock. I am well aware of head gasket problems of this car, as i previously owned a 2006 model (for 6 yr and 110k driven miles) and disposed of it as it seemed that it was showing some early signs of gasket failure (according to my research on here and speaking to lexus/toyota trained techs etc)...I had also had its DPF removed to eradicate VSC lights etc etc... at 90k..and I had learned to do the EGR cleanout every4-6 months too. The car was sold at 132k with losses of coolant and heater problems and was of course out of warranty by a mile. What i really want to know is if there is anyone who can advise if lexus applied any modifications to the head/block/gasket to reduce the risk of further problems?..and at what point did this happen? I have read that the IS200d model almost certainly been modified, but what of late 220's? Anyone? Is my 2010 model at as much risk as my 06 model, or have mods been done? Also, if i do have problems, can i walk into any lexus service centre and ask for it to be done on warranty (presume its still 110k/7 years for the head.) I am intending to have the DPF removed again as it made a huge difference to the old car. Many thanks for taking the time to read and offering any advice.
