  2. Just thinking out loud. when they do reinstate your licence, I would check you still have all your previous privileges, as us "youths" have restrictions on towing, and vehicle sizes (upto 3500kg inc trailers).

  5. Many thanks Cabcurtains. Very helpful and reassuring. My 350 has HID on the dipped but ordinary halo on the main and the light was not very good on the main so I replaced these with a HID conversion kit (cost about £85) and they are brilliant. Checked with my garage before the change and main beams are not covered by MOT so no problem about them being quite bright. I changed the reversing lights last year to high intensity LED (700-800 lumens) and removed the silvered shield and they are almost good enough to reverse easily now. Cost about £10 as I recall.

  6. I have just changed all the bulbs on my RX, the sides were old and yellow, they are now LED bright white and look great, 1 minute each side. The mains again all really yellow so i changed to some slightly naughty upgrade bulbs, hardly an issue on main beam. Again quick and easy to do. The headlights took me about 15 mins each side, again changed due to being yellow, bare in mind my Mini has full LED, so i am a little bias and need clear light... Its a simple case of removing the white connector, uncrewing the caps, disconnect high voltage cable, push in springs and remove bulb. Fitting new bulbs is a reversal of the process. The difference is vast, even the Mrs noticed and thats saying something. Ref safety, no need to wait for dissipation, just set the lights to off and lock the car. Its fiddly at the time but once done its easy. Drivers side has less access due to the ABS pump. I think the bulbs last for ever, but they do age and loose there colour. There is a really useful youtube video on replacing RX330 HID Bulb. I bought Osram Cool Blue from Ace Parts, they were £33 each, but are now £26. The price on these varies wildly.

  7. That is typical of government departments ,they are making serious mistakes and nobody is ever held responsible. The recent report on the Hbos debacle strongly censures the FSA for its lax supervision of same .The writing was on the wall for the ministers before the report so they disbanded the FSA so no one could be held accountable. I lost £5k when a company registered with the then FSA went belly up owing £26M to its customers who had placed monies with them for currency exchange, subsequent investigation proved a massive fraud had taken place and most of the directors went to jail the MD topped himself day before the guilty verdicts were announced. Then on government decree administrators spent £1.5M of the £2M left in the accounts (our money) to find out what had been going on . The FSA says they were not responsible nor was the companie's bank but the customers funds were not ring fenced but open to the directors wants and whims. As you get further up these departments it is easy to see why the British Public despise them.

  8. There is no such Police Force called Yorkshire Police.I would not touch it with a barge pole, while it may have been looked after service wise, it will have been "driven as if stolen" by coppers who would have had have no regard for the car. The interior will have been butchered to accommodate all the comms equipment and the carpets and upholstery will have been covered, and smell of Maccy dee's

  9. Changing the fluid and filter would be my first step. Drain and flush a couple of times to ensure the fluid in the torque converter is changed too. When a manufacturer says sealed for life, they don't mean forever and when a car gets to be 10 years old, they've lost interest. However it's usually the fluid that's past its best, not the transmission. Take it to your local garage, they'll be happy to do it for you. If that doesn't work, a second hand unit, from a breakers, is probably your best bet and your local garage, again, should be happy to fit it for you. Filters are available so it is possible. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Transmission-Filter-Kit-for-Lexus-GS430-2001-ON-A650E-WCTK114-RTK102-/181849952903?hash=item2a571a1287:g:dz4AAOSw0JpV4LBy

  10. Sorry Graham but there is a red flag on using washing up liquid from just about every advisory group regarding screen wash and washing the car. It contains a very aggressive degreasing agent that is known to damage paintwork and causes the rubbers around the windscreen to harden over time.

  11. No wonder you turn to look at it as you walk away, it looks brilliant. I don't care what anyone says about it, style counts.

  13. After a few months owning the 300H id have to agree that "spirited" driving doesn't suit the hybrid drivetrain, that said in sport mode, i find it really impressive for overtaking, pretty much the only time I use it. Otherwise I've really come to appreciate the way to IS just eats the miles. I appreciate it for the waftmobile it is. And not a peep from the engine. Sublime.

  14. Update... Here is what was explained to me as a possible - but not definitive - cause of my problems. I am saying possible, as diagnostics did not pick up any fault. I hope I will do the technician justice in my explanation below! . The sensors are made of three main parts. An outer ring, a small disc (the sensor), and in between a rubber ring. The sensor works in a way that similar to a sonar, sending and receiving sound waves. The rubber ring around it allows the sensor to register the tiny vibrations from incoming sound waves. When the 3G glass coat (clear coat protection) was applied to my car, it was also applied over the sensors and surrounding rubber ring. Over time, the 3G glass coat hardened to such an extent that the rubber ring became completely rigid, thus preventing any kind of movement., hence confusing the system. The sensors were removed, dismantled and thoroughly cleaned so as to remove all trace of the clear coat, and then re-installed. No problem since.

  20. Having just read all of this article, I must say that I now feel a little worried, I was aware of this feature, but not of it's sensitivity and in fact, potential danger. This safety factor could, in itself, also be a danger factor. I think that what JonnyWil #28, described in his first paragraph is typical of what we would all do in a similar situation, after of course the mind thinking, "Chr... what the hell was that," followed by a quick dashboard check, (Think about it?). These actions, even though natural, take precious seconds and could be a potential hazard to fellow road users and pedestrians, depending on prevailing conditions at the time. Yes, it is important to keep original documents and maybe, as in the case of the AA report, withhold it, until a full assessment is made by Lexus. I feel that it is also another good reason to use a carcam, it would document the full sequence of events and reduce the amt. of time and effort, in establishing the initial cause of the problem and its progression. I didn't know that the headlight washers had sensors in them. Does this mean they must be washed and dried with care? is the sensitivity adjustable? or does it take quite a whack to set them off? I take your point Rayaans, about the number of recorded instances of this incident, but how many go unrecorded? Not to be too dramatic, but we both know that sometimes the measure between life and death can be a lot less than seconds. Maybe more needs to be done regards the design of these things, both from a pedestrian and driver prospective. Safety should have have a 360° aspect. My car is MY13 but first registered 01/15, I wash/clean it each week, also wiping any excess water that gets below the bonnet, now I'll be more careful me thinks. I use a dealer in Milan, 'Spotorno car,' I think that in reality they are a Toyota dealership and just do Lexus as a sideline. I would rate them at about 5 out of 10. Servicing I am quite happy with, I have a good rapore with the mechanic. Bodywork they are not so good at IMHO, my CT was rear ended in July 13 and they had an outside guy collect it, the finished work was bad, so I got them to do it again. I must explain that when annoyed my voice can be loud and the whole workshop stopped to look as I was giving the manager a verbal headache. When my IS was rear ended this year, it went to a local chap, who knows me, is good and reliable. OK I got a crap car for a few days, 'Fiat dustbin,' but I only needed it to get home and back, 13km. Accessories also take a long time to get, rubber mat for the boot, minimum 2 weeks. In UK when on holiday, had a Blackvue fitted in the morning, 2hours, then nipped down the road to, 'Snows,' Hedge End, spoke with a nice Polish girl, "sorry no mat in stock, but wait a moment please, I'll take one out of that show car, we can replace it later.' Had my mat in less than 5 minutes, but was about £100 lighter. A totally better attitude and service, but Hedge End are normally like that. Lexus make a big deal out of the fact that their people are specially trained by them, next time you're at your dealership ask the mechanic for his in date Lexus training certificate, also the body shop operative, bet they ain't got one, probably a Toyota one, if that. Fairy duff, Toyota certificate or less, Toyota or less prices. Lexus also need to get their spare supply chain sorted, they should be able to get parts within 24hrs, not a week or more, bet their boss's responsible for these things are paid very well out of our hard earned cash, to keep the seats of their trousers very shiny. The product is good, I am pleased with my IS and would buy another if health and life prevail, (I'm 69), but Lexus cannot afford to live on their laurels, they need to concentrate on really improving all their service sectors and use a little 'Roundup,' on their more, ' Micky Mouse,' dealerships. The opposition is closing in, very quickly. Well that's my half crown's worth. Best wishes. Michael.

  21. Hi Mark and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over. We recommend you spend a couple of mins looking over the rules of the LOC, we will be asking questions later. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/terms-conditions/ Regards Mike.

  22. So, I've seen a few time people mentioning the MPG read out might not be that accurate so I decided to do some (not very good) science. Filled the car up, reset the trip computer and odometer. After 552.3 miles (odometer) needed to fill up again, and filled 54.46litres. Trip Computer stated 49.1Mpg. My Calcs: Fuel Burnt: 54.46 / 4.55 = 11.97 gallons 552.3 miles /11.97 gallons = 46.1Mpg Error margin 6.5%. I also checked the mileage by checking my route to on my longest journey this fill up Vs Google. Odometer reading 57.1miles Google journey length 60.1miles Assuming Google is correct then the odometer on current tyre diameters (treadware/pressures) is underestimating by 5.3%. so the actual MPG is (552.3*1.053)/11.97 = 48.6Mpg (1% margin of error) One thing to note is I switched to winter tyres half way through the tank of petrol and only did the odometer check on brand new snow tyres, so don't know what the error margin was on the summer tyres. I reset everything so will check again next time I fill up!
