  1. Sorry if this has been shared before but thought it might be good for new owners or potential owners to see.

  2. So in 9 months of wafting since I got my RX 300, I had to do my first emergency stop last night. All I can say is wow, I never in a million years would have thought a big lump like the Lex could plant it's anchors as assuredly as it did and managed to stop me from 40-0 mph in a third of the distance I was anticipating... Soooo glad I sorted the seized brakes as soon as I got it! Very reassuring!

  3. It does bake off in no time from hot surfaces yes it does leave a very slightly sticky coating when the carrier evaporates and this collects dust and dirt - just like WD40 does IMHO unless you apply it to a new or nearly new vehicle you are probably wasting your time. Motorcyclists' frame and engine are on constant display so most of us work hard from the outset to stop layers of rust getting a hold. But underneath a car nobody really sees it unless they look, and the layer of rust is probably as good as a layer of ACF50 at preventing further corrosion. Don't get it on your brake pads in any quantity as you will have no brakes for quite a while until it burns off (and you might need new pads). Mike

  4. MOT ran out on 05/10/2015 whilst I was on holiday so got it booked in for today. Failed on rear brake pipe from one side to the other excessive corrosion, didn't see it on my pre-mot inspection as well tooked away. There is a connector block where 2 pipes meet on the offside one from the front and then this goes on to the nearside rear brakes, sure is rusty where there is no plastic covering on the pipe. Booked back for the work to be done next Tusday so no Lexus until then, quoted £40-50 + VAT so for that price not worth the frustration, dirty hands and scraped knuckles attempting the job myself. Lexus actually list the pipe as hose number 9 for around £30.00 which of course is preshaped but it would have been the end of the month before it was delivered to Lexus Derby. Somewhat surprised it has only lasted 21 years :) No advisories either.

  5. What utter tosh, a programme based on Storage wars me thinks. 6 people described as car dealers most who appear to have no idea of cars or dealing. Buyer "Has the cambelt been replaced?" Dealer "I don't know" Buyer "Does it burn oil?" Dealer "I don't know" "John has just bought a Vauxhall Zafira for £975.00" No mention of the "out" price i.e. commisiion and fees. An auction open to these 6 people only, since when does this happen in real life. You didn't miss much but if you really want to see it check out Dave in around 5 years. The best of 2015 primetime TV.

  7. Oh dear, with all this snow on the way, I think I'll hibernate - the Lexus is rear wheel drive automatic, and the JZR is a single rear wheel, rear wheel drive threewheeler. What chance have I got.............................. On the other hand, I'll probably do the same as I've done for the last 50+ years: Drive according to, and as allowed by, the conditions. Malcolm

  10. Hi… Allan's suggestion has merit. I am presuming the car is working correctly. I would check every Po-40 connection for a bad and solder joint and whilst doing so have a multimeter at your side and check the following. You should have continuity between the black wire and the car chassis. You should have constant 12v at the red wire When you lock and when you unlock you should see a very quick 12v pulse. In other words it will go from 0v to 12v and back to 0v on the white and blue wires. If, after doing the tests the system is still not working, let me know and I will send you a free of charge exchange control box. Best regards from Sydney, Australia Michael

  11. What's the point of anything? This is just about having some fun in a big V8. No animals were harmed during filming :)

  14. the jag is going great Tony, the power and comfort is sublime. I have devoured plenty of bmw's which easily fail to keep up or try to accelerate away from me, it really is a wolf in sheeps clothing. now, the only complaint I have is honestly the IS300 is nicer to drive, not more comfortable wise just sharper, probably because its not 1870kg lol Also The stereo, a so called top of the range alpine with DSP zones and separate sub woofer is not a patch on the lexus's Mark Levinson stereo, the bass in the lexus is so tight compared to the boom sound in the STR, but since I prefer the sound of the V8 and supercharger its not a great loss. I still regularly drive the IS300 and I am glad that I do because the difference between a £50,000 and a £27,000 car I dont think is that much different i.e the IS300 punches above its wait easily But the jag has it really, but the IS300 I will never get rid of because it can tow the STR home when it breaks down haha

  16. Hi the treatment Ed China promotes is Terraclean, which requires a special machine, it removes carbon deposits and varnish in the engine, allegedly very effective, £105 plus vat for a RX400. Another option is Seafoam which is a similar ( but DIY ) treatment, can be put in tank or for much better effect sucked into engine ( hundreds of DIYs on Youtube, many on Lexus! ), I also find putting Redex Fuel system cleaner in restores my MPG if it starts to drop a little, I put a full bottle in a tank though, twice recommended amount, standard dose seems innefective! Octane boosters are proven to do nothing, see 5TH Gear test. Cheers Jason
