  1. Hello all. Sorry for not updating you. Yes all sorted now, bought a new radiator from a local independat radiator firm. Was put onto them by local Aston Martin specialest who claims radiators from there far outlest original Aston Martin ones! Paid just over £100 I think and it came with a two year warranty. Special Toyota / Lexus cooling fluid was expensive but necessary I supose. After this experience I will NEVER take any of my cars back to main dealers, they simply dont know, dont care and want to charge like the light brigade! Thanks everyone

  2. Do you think I should hotfoot it up the road to Stansted and give FedEx their tenner? To be honest I think they owe me that for the rooftiles their so**ing great Jumbos have loosened thundering in to land at 3am 6inches above my house.

  3. Open the tailgate and pour some water down the side channel. The water should run behind the rear light trim and come out onto the bumper. That channel may need clearing. The light clusters have a seal on the back of them that can come loose resulting in water getting into the lights and possibly into the boot. Make sure you don't see signs of water at the bottom of the light cluster. Similar with the bonnet, open and pour water around the wipers. The water should run out into the engine bay.

  4. The part number for the 99 mark 4 is 89422-30030 which will be the same for the 99 Celsior.

  5. I think you and I put a similar value on our time Stu. £4k would have covered the hassle for me too

  6. New coil has arrived from Rock, total cost £40.72 including postage. Denso part number is 673-1309, even came with a free RockAuto fridge magnet and I didn't get charged any duty. Have been driving for over a week with no more error lights after using contact cleaner so it will go into my spares stash along with my wireless OBD dongle. Thanks Chris and Colin for your help as always.

  7. Is it all ok now? Coolant 'loss' seems to be a familiar thread here...

  8. Hi piers, yup, a weak cherry red that smells oily... If it's very dark brown and smells burnt, it needs to be changed asap. If it's just brown and smells oily, that's normal after a few years of being in!

  9. I had my 100000 mile service done at DJ autos - they did the service, the timing belt, the water pump and the plugs. I have no idea about the extras you would need doing on a hybrid as I know nothing of such new fangled things, but it would t do you any harm to enquirer at DJ - very good garage.

  10. Many opinions and I'm sure every one valid. I'd like to say that on both of our cars we find winters tyres invaluable. It's 1.5 miles from the house to the first public road - which is, a never gritted in winter B road - from there another mile to the A road. I've tried to do without winter tyres but the lack of grip is just too much once the temperature get close to freezing. They really do help on low grip situations. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC

  11. As colin says get your 12v battery checked, I have just had similar on my 2yr old is, and it was a dead battery, the 12v battery on the is, is very small, once it weakens it struggles to start the hybrid system.

  12. At 126k I assume the rx400h would also require the dreaded plug change?

  13. Hi everyone, hope you are all enjoying the sun and going out for a drive with the sunroof open :-) lovely day for it don't you think? After 4 months off road, my LS is now back and just as good as ever after Japex fitted new rear shocks and springs, anti squeal brake shim set, sorted out an ABS problem and then passed the MOT. A big thank you to Stuart and his team/family who do an exemplary job of looking after my '400 and I am always totally amazed by the level of knowledge, attention to detail and care that Stuart demonstrates to his customers. If any of you need someone to look after your LS and don't mind a wee drive, then go to Japex. There is also a nice deli/cafe there called 'Dalling and Co' on the high street with seating outside and home made cakes for you to enjoy - perfect for weather like this.... Takes me just under two hours to get to Kings Langley at a gentle cruising pace and do you know what? I'd almost forgotten what it is like to drive a car that is so blissfully serene - beats the Merc any day of the week :-) ENJOY

  14. Collected the LS today after getting the aircon sorted and having new engine and tranny mounts fitted. Now I have lovely ice-cold air (not that it's needed as I write; weather's horrible) and a lovely smooooooooooth vibration-free engine. The very slight vibration I felt through the steering wheel at idle has now completely disappeared (using genuine Lexus parts). I kid you not. I decided to get the mounts replaced in order to banish an occasional single 'thump' I would hear from underneath when first cranking the engine from cold. I had the work done at Japex near Hemel Hempsted.. They are a brilliant outfit. Two Lexus trained lads who specialise in Japanese motors. Their customer care and service is second to none. They charge reasonable rates too and nothing is too much trouble. I can't rate them highly enough. Anyway, I'm off now to try the champagne glass 'ripple' test!
