  1. If you look at the following page under the essentials care you will see fixed price servicing that Lexus dealers cannot charge extra for. Compare these prices to your independent. No reason why you couldn't get the two pieces of work done at different places - just more convenient to get it done all at once. http://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/#/ServicingYourLexus/LexusEssentialCareRX

  2. Hi Guys, So my car went off to SRD on Monday. :) They have recently installed our 8-spd transmission into a Supra, and were struggling to get it to operate smoothly in the lower gears. In exchange for 'borrowing' my car for a week, the guys are installing my BC BR coilovers, RR-Racing USRS bushes, and giving the car a full alignment and geo setup for free! ;) Here is the video from the dyno run they did on Monday. :) I'll add a couple of photos in a second as well.

  3. I bought my current LS on eBay a few months back, I was lucky to get a low mileage car with full history, a years test and no major problems aside from a few bodywork issues for £600 I tried to replicate that last week with an impulse buy, again an eBay special. The description was a bit vague, the mot had run out, but the owner insisted it was in very good conditions and with pass with flying colours as there were "no faults" I won it at £566, great I thought. A 93 mk1 with low miles, what could go wrong..... I turned up with my trusty trailer in tow to find a complete and total utter shed. Remember this car has "no faults" Within five mins I found An illegal tyre Corroded front and rear discs Bad rust on the off side front floor / sill Dash display not working Power steering inoperative Power steering fluid all over the bottom engine cover Sump leaking badly Blowing egr pipe Cat flanges rotten and blowing one side Engine breathing badly and burning oil Then the not fail able items Leather cracked and frayed Engine oil low Central locking inoperative Rotten off side rear arch Every panel scratched There was probably much more but I'd given up by this point, I pointed out that as the car was very obviously not as described I was legally relieving myself of the deal. Thanked him for wasting my time and left. He messaged me a couple of times on the way back saying first he'd take £450 then another of £400. I declined It goes to show that you can find very poor LS's that have been used and abused and only fit for scrap. Of course the seller said it was his brothers car and didn't know much about it, only that he'd had it about five months and in that time never cleaned it once by the look of it. Who in their right mind tries to sell a car advertised in very good condition with no faults but leaves it filthy and full of cobwebs. It was on a housing estate with open parking spaces and looked like he had a few cars for sale, some jacked up with wheels missing.

  5. I've looked at the service prices and it says FULL + 100 Our most comprehensive service, with the additional 100,000 mile replacement of longer service interval items. It doesn't say what they replace, does anyone know what these are?

  6. Hi Colin Thank you for the information, I contacted Lexus Cardiff and they then realised they had got the pricing wrong at £283.51 a shock. It now is quoted at £170 a shock (Lexus Bristol £180) by reducing their hourly rate to £95 an hour, instead of £115 an hour. I drove the Lexus to my local MOT centre I have used for 12 years, they put the RX 450h on the ramp and their top mechanic said"there is a small wet patch on the OSR and that is not significant to worry about". He then looked at the video sent to my e-mail account from the Lexus mechanic and straight away said the ramp the Lexus garage was using allowed the wheels to hang down, as it was using the jacking points. This he said lowered the shocks passed the covers making the top visible and that there is always a small amount of fluid that shows on the stem of the shock! He said it would only be an advisory at MOT time as you commented Colin. If I was worried they would charge £45 to fit each shock if I purchased them from Lexus at £50 each. 2ddesign

  9. Christine that's her, couldn't remember her name. She's begrudgingly selling it. I've looked all over but the kit doesn't seem to be in production any more. If I had the spare time, space and big enough wheels I'd like to create a version of that kit. It's a very early 90s craze that swept the scene but quickly became tacky. I think the tacky phase has finally past and the 90s retro big body kit on period cars could be a winner. I recently saw a genuine metro 6R4 , what a machine. Cars like the above kitted celsior look awesome, but in the metal (or grp) they look even better.

  10. And I hope you have your pipe clenched in teeth and wearing plus fours at the same time just to top it all off.

  11. Stuart, no need to turn the vent off yet, as it's not there just as a cooling vent for the summer. In the winter, (or now) you can turn up the heating and then set the 'climate' screen to blow warm air downwards to feet. Doing this will also blow nice warm air through that vent to your knees as well, if you direct it carefully. Have fun.

  12. Hi Stuart, the picture of the jacking plate as I said shows the plate on my Jaguar XJ Sovereign. In this application it is the second version of the original which I had on a 4.2 Jaguar XK. On the XJ I made a L shaped bracket and bolted the bracket to the sill. The round plate spins on and off by a threaded stud with a large stainless steel spring washer so there was no chance of it backing off. The two small holes in the round plate allow a special spanner I modified with corresponding studs which fit into the two holes in order to tighten the assembly. I wanted a very quick way of jacking my cars up at home with my trolley jack instead of having to crawl about and locate the sill flange. Moreover the Jaguar garage I used always new they had to use the four round plates for their two poster lift. They were idiot proof really for the technician to use and it guaranteed there would be no more crushed sills or damage to my plastic sill covers. So I will use these on the front jacking position and if I can will do the same at the rear jacking position, however I have seen the large hard rubber egg sized cones at the rear and I am assuming garages use these to raise the car at the rear as they are bolted to the floor pan. Unless these rubber cones are something else !! Steve
