  1. I love your sentiment but your wearing rose coloured spectacles if you think the police would do anything. Hang on a minute I have just seen a pig flyover so you could be lucky. Mike.

  2. ACF-50 is primarily an aviation protection product, popular for marine application in the US and for motor bikes here in the UK. After losing a superb '95 LS400 to rust hopes now rest with this product to protect my '06 RX350 and a '04 LS430 but have only just applied it so can give no reports on its effectiveness. It comes in a thicker form called Corrosion Block for under body application and lasts for 12 to 18 months. I am happy to treat my cars each year. Have opted for this approach because obscuring everything in a thick wax worries me and ACF-50 can be applied to all components including electrics, rubbers and painted surfaces. Rather like WD40 it is a water dispersant but unlike WD40 it does not with time become hygroscopic and promote rust [if you doubt this statement please refer to the engineering section of the CAA]. It is also sold under the name Corrosion Block as a water proof grease.

  3. You cannot get emails, texts can be read but not replied to - and this can be a bit intermittent. These are restrictions that Apple put in place on their Bluetooth stack. On your phone go to the bluetooth settings, touch the i next to the Lexus device and make sure send notifications is turned on.

  4. I posted a while ago about an incident I was involved in where I was hit in the rear by an uninsured driver. My insurers and their sister legal company were useless and gave misleading advice that lead me into a situation where had I claimed my car would have been written off. The Police were advised and said they would investigate the matter but I never heard any further from them. So contrary to the advice from my insurers' sister legal company, who suggested the only option was to make a claim on my insurance, I contacted the Motor Insurers Bureau who were very sympathetic to my cause and invited me to make a personal claim. Having made a claim ,subject to agreeing to testify in court if they are able to find the driver ,I have just received full settlement of my costs to get the car properly repaired. The moral of this particular story is, question any advice from your insurers and uninsured claims legal advisor's and if you are not satisfied don't be frightened to contact the MIB direct as they do deal with the general public on such matters and are not just there for the benefit of the Motor Insurance industry.

  5. Hi Fred and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over. We recommend you spend a couple of mins looking over the rules of the LOC, we will be asking questions later. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/terms-conditions/ Regards Mike.

  6. Yes thats the size Fred. It will look a lot better once there fitted on as I feel cars with a small number plate on the back and a lot of room sometimes look a little odd. I think you have a great car Fred and at that mileage it should serve you well. I do remember the car being for sale on ebay and it was rather tempting. All the best.

  7. Hi Piers, With the Techstream software I can program this auto open/close function on/off for the following: 1) Windows only 2) Moonroof only 3) Windows & Moonroof I don't typically use it to open anything but find it dead handy to close a partially open window or roof when I stop the engine and get out, then realise someone left something open! I have a 53 plate RX300....

  8. Well... You were sort of all correct... It was a combination of a sticking parking brake AND a seized calliper. ( I'd had one rear calliper done about 3 months ago - under warranty ). So ... because of my [excellent] Lexus Warranty, I had the parking brake freed up, a rear calliper replaced and a car wash and vacuum. Total cost £0 :hocus-pokus:

  9. If I wasn't all the way up in Scotland, it would have been at my house yesterday!!

  10. How many miles has your 450 done Nick? It's possible that all the discs just need a good clean up with a stiff wire brush (if not too worn as per Colin's post above)... There's nothing fancy about the brakes, so a good independent will be able to easily sort it for you if you don't like/have the time to DIY and at probably half the price of Mr Dealer...

  11. I swear by the Toyota pads, they aren't too badly priced and I have tried alternatives over the years (including most recently EBC Ultimax "low brake dust pads" which shockingly have doubled the brake dust!!) - Toyota pads wear longest with minimal/normal dust and as a bonus always fit "just right"! Now, cleaning/refurbing brake callipers, rubber grommets and sliding pins are an absolute must on pretty much any Toyota/Lexus! As Gliderpilot said, it's not hard and is worth the time! For less than a £100 in parts for all 4 wheels, it'll save you £400+ per wheel at the dealer, who will gladly sell you a whole new calliper and mount rather than just service them!

  12. Info from another LOC member is that Falkens are a direct replacement for the Dunlops that the cars were originally fitted with and Dunlops make Falken tyres. Mike.

  13. Have no experience of Falken tyres myself but I would reccommend camskil.co.uk if you are purchasing online. When I purchased the last set of goodyears for mine this company were vastly cheaper than anyone else and I had great service.

  14. Top quality tyres, use 225/60/16 on my LS all the time including winter. Buy with confidence. Mike.

  15. falkens are generally good and some LS member prefer them on the LS cars. being runflats they will have a thicker/harder sidewall which may mean the ride is a little firmer and noisier HTH

  16. That's true to some extent, you get used to the gradual deterioration over time which is very subtle but conversely, when you really know your car, you can tell when it's acting weird or a new noise occurs, or just simply switching fuel from normal to higher octane for example! I have to say that I thought the Lex was a pretty smooth shifter before changing the automatic tranny fluid, but it's even slicker now! I'm slowly ticking all my service items off the list and I'd say the least noticeable was the spark plug change recently... Still have power steering to do and also transfer box and rear diff, so will be interested to see what noticeable effects this may bring (if any)!

  17. But you'd have to take your steering wheel off if you planned to swap it anyway....?

  18. If you press and hold the audio power button for 10 seconds it should reboot the system, worth a try although I don't think it is going to do any more than disconnecting the battery.

  19. If it is an issue with the bluetooth could it be your phone ? have you tried it with all bluetooth devices out of range or powered off (inc other devices in the house} had a quick check for I Phone 6 on here > http://www.lexus.com/lexus/mobilelink/ this is what it came back with ... **If you updated to iOS 8.0 or newer, have iCloud turned on, and are using Bluetooth, you might experience the following symptoms: 1. Head unit displays No Service for cellular radio. 2. Unable to initiate or answer calls when connected to Bluetooth. 3. Unable to hear sound clearly when youre on a call with Bluetooth. 4. Head unit displays an active call although there are no calls active on the iPhone. To resolve these issues, please refer to the information on Apple's website here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht6473. I had a bluetooth problem where my phone connected ok but no-one could hear me, turned out to be my Galaxy 4s & a phone software update fixed it ...
