  1. I posted a while ago about an incident I was involved in where I was hit in the rear by an uninsured driver. My insurers and their sister legal company were useless and gave misleading advice that lead me into a situation where had I claimed my car would have been written off. The Police were advised and said they would investigate the matter but I never heard any further from them. So contrary to the advice from my insurers' sister legal company, who suggested the only option was to make a claim on my insurance, I contacted the Motor Insurers Bureau who were very sympathetic to my cause and invited me to make a personal claim. Having made a claim ,subject to agreeing to testify in court if they are able to find the driver ,I have just received full settlement of my costs to get the car properly repaired. The moral of this particular story is, question any advice from your insurers and uninsured claims legal advisor's and if you are not satisfied don't be frightened to contact the MIB direct as they do deal with the general public on such matters and are not just there for the benefit of the Motor Insurance industry.

  2. Apparently there is an internet con which features cars selling at cheap prices. The seller claims that the car isn't with them but is expected to return from holidays/valeting/ servicing/ loan to a relative etc. Insists on payment, arranges delivery etc. All this can easily be solved by looking at the car, verifying all of the data in the advert, HPi checking and viewing the registration docs. It is fashionable for some dealers to "misprint" things, accidentally swap the descriptions of vehicles with other (coincidentally better) descriptions of other vehicles they are allegedly selling, Notice how may of then are at pains to tell you that a car has a leather covered steering wheel and or gearknob when they know that joe public word searches for" leather" when looking for leather seats. Look at the car for real and ask to see all of the documentation is what I would do.Dont meet on motorway services, meet at their home or business address( depending whether it is trade or private sale.

  5. Hi. I have just googled the reg number and it came back with http://www.ukvehicle.com/GX12LKP/ The mileage on here states 42000 in April but the eBay add states. 36000. Sounds fishy to me. Plus the buyer is new. Steer clear if you are not sure.

  7. You can't do a full postcode search. Only the first part then it will list all the streets etc in that postcode area and then you choose from the list the exact one you want. Not a very good search system actually.

  8. This caught me out too, there are two nuts the obvious one and the one way above it. You don't need to remove any trimm. THe two fixings don't need to be removed they are just locating lugs. The cluster comes off with a good pull.

  12. TFR is a crap remover (not a crap crap remover as it does a good job at what its supposed to do) - very strong stuff actually, the cheap ones being rather caustic. These things were originally intended for bus and truck washes as its quick and buses and trucks don't really need to be shiny. You have to remember that this stuff strips waxes down leaving your car bare of anything on it which is problematic if you get some bird poo or whatever else on. You've just bought a white car, you'll start seeing black spots (tar) and iron contamination (the brown rust spots) after a while and it needs regular maintenance to stay looking good. TFR's will remove some of the tar but they make the rust spots worse. Onto coatings then, I agree, the car WILL need washing at some point. BUT - these coatings greatly reduce the amount of dirt the car accumulates by shedding some off when it rains, not to mention that they resist light scratching as they're usually made out of silicon dioxide.
