  1. Carbon build up - I have experienced this although my car is an IS and not an RX When I first had it I spent a lot of time looking into the cause - it was reported as a big problem in the states where they use a lower ron value of fuel than Europe .. it was put down to a buildup of carbon due to lower ron fuels being used. An upper rebuild of the engines affected cured this. How I have resolved mine was to use an additive - a lot of people report these to be a placebo effect - I used it along with changing to the higher ron fuels, filling up on alternate fills. It has worked for me - I used BG44 and Shell V Power.

  2. I really enjoy clicking in the Cruise Control, turning up the music and eating up the miles. I smile indulgently at the boy racers as they pass.......no matter how fast they go - they aren't sitting in an LS :)

  3. You basically turn on a heater in the lower portion of the windscreen which melts the ice if your wipers are stuck. Heats the wipers up too so really good for winterYes, having had this on my old IS250 it was disappointing not to have it on the 300h. Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC

  4. My boot always seems warm, bags feel warm if they've been sat on top of the battery. Noticed an annoying gurgling noise coming from the drivers door glass as the water streams off and swirls around near the mirror housing, perversely only noticeable on the motorway because the car is so quiet!

  5. Or eventually, instead of giving a grant they could add a £5k "tax" on electric cars only lol

  7. And one imagines the plugs fitted by Lexus just over a year ago will be out of warranty! I'll give tech one a call on Monday. Thanks everyone.

  8. in general metallic paints do not fade because they are protected by several layers of clear lacquer. Contact Autopaint St Helens. They will have your exact code in their system and will send you an exact match. I have used them for years and they are always excellent.

  9. That's what it's about. If you want anywhere near the published economy figures for a hybrid, you need to adapt your driving style accordingly, and that means staying below 60 (preferably 50 to 55) on the motorways. I regularly got over 70mpg in my Prius on long motorway runs in good weather with cruise on at 55.

  10. I agree battery must be the future, so simple, and relatively cheap. Several manufacturers seem obsessed with hydrogen, but I really can't see the benefit of producing hydrogen elsewhere simply to use in an on board generator, surely electricity can be generated more efficiently off site? The onlybenefit I can see is range when hydrogen stations become common, but I'm confident by then the range/capacity of batteries will be far better. Once the range issue is resolved hopefully manufacturers will produce affordable and desirable cars , if lexus did an is electric with a real life 250 range for similar proceed to the 300h that would be perfect, surely a battery and motor should ultimately be cheaper than the complex engine, hybrid set up currently?

  11. Thanks for the info. I've looked at varex silencers but they're very pricey for my style of shoe string. I'll be using QTP electric cut outs. I frequent lextreme and drifworks regularly and various ls400 / 1uz Facebook pages like driftmoto etc. The 1uz would be so much more popular if there was a cheap and easy way to manualise it without resorting to adapters, but there are more people doing it. The r154 supra box is popular in the states but very expensive over here. Nev at driftmoto sells a kit to fit various bmw boxes that are strong cheap and plentiful. There are some seriously powerful 1uz engined cars out there making insane power. I fear if they become too popular the "scene tax" will be imposed and prices for 1uz engined cars and parts will rocket.

  12. The only problem I can see with EVs is that once everyone gets on the bandwagon the government will start taxing it and charging for using city charge points etc

  13. It isn't just that, not applying brakes when in N assumes that the car is on level ground.............how often will that not be the case though. It just seems good practice to put into P or if in N to apply parking brake.

  14. Thinking about it if you do select neutral while waiting you should either keep the brakes on or put the parking brake on because if some numpty runs into the back of you they will push you out into the oncoming traffic, don't fancy that.

  15. In an Automatic NON HYBRID - at the traffic light, yes it is better to put it in Neutral. This actually helps to reduce brake wear as well and reduces component wear. Dont put on the parking brake though.

  16. If you keep in D there is the possibility that the brake pads and disc being hot may cause warping of the disc. I tend to use P but if that gives you problems Steveledzep then you can always use N and apply the parking brake in the same way that you would in a car with manual transmission.

  17. Another point worth noting is that I have learned that many of the "cheap" discs on ebay which in effect are copies do not contain any firmware upgrades and just update your maps so that's worth keeping in mind too.
