  1. ....until the motor fails....... Or they corrode from the inside, or the double glazing goes cloudy............hmmm, maybe I'll just make sure mine are properly shut. Rain sensitive wipers, self closing doors, automatic lights.............answers to questions that nobody asked imo, not to mention unreliable and costly to fix. You can keep the rain sensing W/W's and the automatic lights but self closing doors - yes please. Never had a problem on my S320 (18 yrs young) and no cloudy D/Glazing. Mind you the windscreen and the rear window had bad lamination at the bottom. Windscreen got replaced during my six years but not rear screen. Just had to put black insulation tape along bottom and part of the sides of glass to hide from MOT inspector. Great not to see any clouding on the Lexus - another plus! - and its quieter than the double glazed Merc IMO. But what if,,,d/glazed, soft closure LS400 Mk 2 - (oh and electrical folding mirrors) would have totally destroyed Mercedes sales. Not so sure Stuart, unfortunately for Toyota they struggle with our badge snobbery in the UK, so being better isn't enough, though I do wonder if the German brands will suffer from lack of exclusivity, now our roads are full of them?

  2. Any thoughts on winter prep? I've topped up my anti freeze - with the Red concentrated one. 'Silicone' the door rubbers so they don't stick?

  3. Id say - Wash and sealant - wax won't last too long, sealants are generally better for the winter. Alloy wheel protection - again a sealant is best Clean the arches thoroughly and seal them too with a sealant/protector depending on material Make sure you dont leave parking brake on in freezing conditions after travelling in rain/snow- mine froze lol - needed a tow to Lexus to get it off.

  5. As I don't own a Lexus anymore this will be my last post! This kind of bickering has plagued the Lexus forum ever since I've been a member, and I don't want to be part of it. I certainly won't be alone in saying that much "smugness" on the part of LS400 owners has always got the back up of LS430 owners, the majority of whom have not even owned one. How about getting back to what's important, being a car owners forum that offers help and advice, and remembering that all Lexus models are great cars? I would have said that the remarks have flowed both ways, in fact this thread WAS about a problem with a 400, until a 430 owner posted about self closing doors! But frankly, who cares, it's just a bit of banter about a couple of banger money cars, no need to make it personal.

  6. Oh dear, I still haven't finished all my summer ones!! Winter ideas: 1) find some great windscreen washer that is highly concentrated so you have it ready, frozen washer jets suck! 2) clean all alloys thoroughly (use Dodojuice Ferrous Dueller/Iron-X/Bilt Hamber Korrosol etc), preferably take them off the car when doing so, including the spare, and use wheel wax afterwards. Whilst doing this, clean, de-rust & lubricate spare wheel winch mechanism Good idea about the silicone around the doors, I keep forgetting to do this and especially on my MR2, the door freezes shut and takes forever to open!!!

  8. There is another menu that you can get into when you turn auto lights off, turn the keys until the dash lights up but before the starter kicks in, and then flick the light stalk from off to sidelights between 6 & 12 times.... Be careful you don't mess anything up! Use your cam phone to take pictures of settings if unsure before changing them. The best tool so far is a £10 data cable from eBay and the personal use version of Toyota tech stream (or TIS) software. You can record codes, record live data, reset codes and test individual systems. Using the air suspension computer you can activate one corner at a time to raise or lower, read the height level sensor, see how much air is pumped into a strut (and see it all leak out if you have a leak like me at the mo!) All very cool!

  9. I saw somewhere that the car won't run purely on battery power (even if they are full) if it has a major engine issue. The original poster's problem surely is a fuelling issue of some kind (blocked filter, blown fuse, dead pump, etc). Until an update is posted, I cannot see how this problem is related to the HV/Inverter/Batteries/Charging side of the engine...!

  11. Finally got around to doing these this week and delighted with how they came out.Started with 1500 and then finished with 2000 waterpaper.Polished back up by machine and came up like new and no sign that i cut the uv coating. If i had started with 800 or 1000 i probably would went true it but as with all polishing start off with light products and see how ya get on. Including masking and polishing whole job was less than 20 mins.Pity rest the car wasn't as fast, spent 12 hours machine polishing the body work :)
