  1. ............ none done on my Lexuses at any time but I have had welding done on my Mazda and it's pretty painless and often at a tiny cost really ... depends who you use to do it, like any job on a car, and how extensive the rot is when it's discovered. The problem with rot on many cars ( and I don't mean surface rust ) is that it can often eat into structural, difficult to get to areas that can and often do, make repair just so uneconomic, whatever the car and the life of the drivetrain and interior etc. Malc

  2. It sounds like it could be a sticky iscv - idle speed control valve. If I don't drive my MR2 for a couple of months, it sticks and the problem manifests usually when driving along until engine warms up, then when you come to a stop for a roundabout or junction, the engine stalls. The iscv is usually located after the air-box (filter) and on the throttle body. Usual operation allows air to bypass it via little breather channels (when coming to a stop as an anti-stall device) that get blocked over time on our older cars with sludge from petrol vapours and unburnt carbon from the EGR system - it may take several blasts with old school carb cleaner spray, which you can blast into the throttle body up the air filter hose whilst engine is running. If you can some how let the iscv soak in carb cleaner or get a cotton bud into the little breathers, you can really clean it out good and your problem will disappear! Let us know how you get on! Chris.

  3. Can't think why you would want the sound turned off. Surely in that case a lot of your attention must be on the satnav screen and not on the road ahead.

  4. Interesting topic. I've been driving for over 40 years and have had very few accidents but in the 18 months since getting my CT I've scraped the passenger side of the car twice when turning corners in car parks! Is there something about the CT wheel track that I can blame or is it just me being careless in my old age?
