  3. Given the Japanese Domestic Lady a polish today. What a difference. You can see the mk1 in the reflection. Presented in black and white today :)

  4. If this job is on a 400 and you are taking the motor off, when the starter bolts are removed, clean the threads perfectly. Then cut a good screwdriver slot in the threaded end. When refitting, use a screwdriver to 'wind them back in' as far as you can, then finish with a spanner as usual. As you can only get little more than a quarter turn on them with a spanner, this will speed up assembly, it works.... I dId it on mine!

  6. Hi I purchased an RX lux in August. I went around several main dealers and my purchase was a cash purchase. I got a 2013 on a 63 plate with 30k mileage for sale at just under £33k I paid £28500. I was easily able to manage at least 10% discount at other dealerships. When you can't get the price any lower add in a second year of warranty mats, flaps fuel etc. be very ruthless as they will have a lot of RX available when the new model comes out use that as your argument . Don't be afraid to walk away make sure they have your details so they can contact you but also let them know you are going to another dealer and have a view of a car don't make one up they check the competition. I hope this helps

  7. Good luck with that, don't forget to have plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits on the go together with a comfy chair to work out the problems in a professional manner. Mike.

  9. do plenty of "pre-op" reading take plenty of coffee breaks (not beer lol) a clever tip from steve is once you have replaced the starter solenoid - put it on a battery to see it engages there are some clear pictures here which might help http://www.lextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11862 all the best - the most i have done on my 400 is change the brake pads so my hat goes off to you

  10. Hi. I have an RX 400 at the moment, and obviously I will be changing to a 450 at some point, But I must make the case for the 400 because it's a fantastic car, in my opinion is better shape than the 450 which I see is a more boxy shape. The 400 has a massive amount of room, more than enough to get my mobility scooter in the back with the hoist as well and the comfort is superb and the reliability is also first class mine is a 07 plate that now has done 82000 miles and as long as you get a good one as I have ,they will easily last you several years if not a decade or more thank you

  11. This is something I will ask a Lexus dealer. The reason I am confused is that some of the cars on the Lexus website that are SE-L do not appear to have the ML stereo and some do. Also one of them refers to having a DAB module whereas some don't. It might be that the dealer has not bothered to enter the info. The SE-L appears to have a more adjustable seat - for me this would be a big selling point as my back surgeon has told me to choose a car based on driving position and seat adjustability. Ironically he drives an R8 which I cannot believe is good for your back at all.

  12. In my opinion the cvt is more responsive at any revs and more refined for the majority of driving. The only time it can sound a bit harsh is under full throttle acceleration when having one gear revving is a bit strange. I still drive my wife's is250 and can honestly say I used to think the auto on the is250 was the best box ever until I drove the cvt. It's something you have to try although to really appreciate it you need a day test drive to use the box in all diving conditions. Carl

  14. Good decision, Rudy - why have only one LS400 when you can have two?

  15. That would be slightly more than a 20% saving on new. I don't know the chances of that happening with dealers still offering year old NX F Sport's at less than a 10% saving on new prices. I've bought a lot of different brands over the years, but Lexus dealers have to be the greediest bunch I have ever encountered. Insulting p/ex prices and sky high resale. I really hope you get the car, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see 6 month old ex demos going for nearer the £53k mark. Whether anybody will pay that price is another matter.

  16. Thanks for all the replies/advice guys. Well, i'm pleased to report that after 2 weeks of shopping around i finally took the plunge and bought the beauty you see below!.....(please excuse the rubbish iphone pics) could'nt be happier with it!... I really think i've found a fantastic example at a decent price, she's the the SE-L model with every single option known to man, including the lexus ipod connector in the glovebox, and with only 28,700 miles on her she'll be with me for quite some time i think. Just one more thing.... God these things shift!..

  17. As above, I've not heard of any of this as a common issue. Can you link to some of the others who have the same, so I can read some of symptoms there too? Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC

  18. So here are the photos! There are some light scratches and swirls Ive noticed so will need to give it a good polish once I get the time! You'll have to click on the pictures to see them properly as some of the edges are cut off in the thumbnails

  19. My passenger side mirror had stopped dropping when put into reverse. I found that the mirror had been push too far off centre possible from washing the car or something. Anyway, re centred the mirror then reset it's normal driving position. Make sure mirror switch is set to passenger side and all hopefully will work again. It did for me anyway. Carl

  20. An hybrid really is no different to a convential vehicle. Use the accelerator and you use fuel. Use it hard, you will use more fuel. Petrol power alone will give you 38-40mpg. The hybrid system will only be of benefit if you drive moderately - around town. On motorways, battery will assist but power is via engine predominantly. Engine only = 38-40mpg Engine/ battery = 50-60mpg. This depends on many factors as mentioned previously. I use normal mode, ECO will improve mpg IF you can tolerate the unresponsive throttle. Mine has done 56k and average around 55mpg regularly.

  21. I've done about 5K in mine since I got it at the end of April. I've tracked every tankful on fuelly.com and so far my overall average is 52.6. Best on a single tank so far was 58.8. I could get a little better if Mrs B didn't drive it - she's a bit heavy footed and the average drops when she's at the wheel. I drove from Bristol to London a few weeks back - over the 250 mile return journey I managed an indicated 72 which I was surprised at - mostly on cruise control at an indicated 70mph You will never better, or even match the prius figures in the CT - its not as aerodynamic and I think its a bit heavier

  22. I picked up my 2012 CT200h last Friday, having traded in my 2008 Prius with 100,000 miles on the clock (achieving 60mpg). The advertised 70mpg combined appealed to me as extra Mpg is always a welcome. Since driving my car I haven't exceeded 57mpg and have been looking for ways to improve it. Having driven the Toyota Prius for many years I am familiar with the driving style required for efficient driving but non of that seems to be working with my CT200h. I have read many pages online regarding driving techniques for the CT200h and found that I'm doing everything it says. When experimenting with my Prius I initially found that driving at about 78 mph gave me a better mpg than at 70mph and had that confirmed by my local dealership as they had heard the same from other customers. On Monday I travelled just over 200 miles to work and achieved 55.6mpg at 72mph. Tomorrow I am returning home and will try another style to try and achieve a higher mpg. I'll let you know how I get on.

  23. 55 - 58 mpg when I bought it in November 2013 (10 month old, 10k miles, ex. Lexus HQ car) and it has only dropped to 53 mpg in the current cold weather all with the aircon set to auto. You do need to adjust your driving style though to get the best out of the hybrid system. I usually lose MPG on the open A road section of most journeys but catch it back up on the slower sections and in traffic.

  24. not sure the bmw mpg good or bad once the purchase cost is factored in ? my 03 1.8t 20v passat petrol which is my daily driver has served me 48,000 miles in 4 years ,now covered 144,000 total , computer shows overall average for my ownership at 31mpg , ,not bad for a 9yr old estate probably worth about £1500 so it stay's till it dies LOL good luck with your new motor
