  1. I'm not familiar with the camera you have, but if it comes with a ciggy lighter type plug that will more than likely have a voltage regulator of some sort in it, so it's important to use that plug.If you don't want to use the 12v/lighter socket on the car, you could hard wire (ign/earth) a trailing ciggy socket to plug into, then hide that behind trim. That's the way I've done it for dashcam, Satnav etc on various cars. HTH Malcolm

  2. I have finally taken the plunge and bought an LS430. I've had my LS400 for 10 years now, easily the best car I have ever owned and I will be keeping it. My wife would never let me sell it anyway. The new car is really lovely, only 112,000 miles 51 Reg, Mystic Gold. It has a few niggles but nothing I can't fix myself. If the air suspension acts up at all I will fit coilovers . Also I have bought a Auto Transmission cooler to fit to the front so I don't get the dreaded " water in the auto box " problem. That pretty much covers any likely troubles it will give me, but I don't expect it to be as near flawless as the LS400. I'll post a picture of it when I've finished claying and buffer polishing the paint. Paul

  3. Do you also want a 1994 C-F packaged Celsior to add to your collection, never seem to have the time to finish the one I have. Haven't forgotten your capacitor sets I will get them to you eventually. Personally I would keep the series IV,it was the ultimate version of the LS400s with everything ironed out. Have you managed to sort out the sat nav problem?

  9. If you spray it yourself make sure to wet sand the clear coat (after it has dried of course :) ) Then machine polish it and it'll look as good as the factory paint

  10. hahahahaha .............. I just read the advert ....... . it actually says resprayed bonnet, boot, roof etc !! And if I was you I would probably just patch your own front wing tbh unless you can get an original same colour replacement and not have to repaint. It's the quality of the Lexus factory finish that gives our cars such an amazing longevity paint and colourwise. Malc

  11. I was the OP with the rear wheel noise, turned out to be the nearside rear wheel bearing. I also replaced all the tyres with the Nexens, I cannot give much of a noise review on them as it is one of the things that particularly annoys me and I think my expectations and desires are a bit unreasonable when it comes to a quiet car. Around where I live most of our roads are covered in the "lets dump a load of chippings and get the car drivers to bed them in for us" type of surfaces which I find extremely noisy whatever car I am in. However on the odd occasion that I find a stretch of properly tarmac'd road the Nexens are very quiet. As a sedate driver I cannot comment on road handling and grip as I havent had occassion to need to put them to the test.

  12. Hey Andy. I'll check my toolbox before Sunday for any spares. If not, we can try mine to verify if the bulb is the culprit. ;) See you soon! Cheers. Pete :)

  13. Hi all, I've had an annoying cold start, low idle RPM engine rattle/buzz since I got my RX300 in Feb this year. These rattles are a devil to track down as can appear to come from places you really wouldn't think of checking! Purely by accident whilst replacing my oil cooler pipes, I had the first three sections of "under tray" off my car and as I had my car on wheel ramps (front), I felt happy wriggling underneath to find some spots for axle-stands as a backup for the ramps (safety first!) - the places I wanted to put my axle-stands had the third "section" of under tray from the front of the car approx below where the driver/passenger floor mats are, and was stopping my stands making clean metal on metal contact with the chassis/frame. Whilst on my back looking up at the under tray as I removed it, I noticed a piece of exhaust heatshield that looked like it was barely hanging on and when I touched it, it felt like it would just fall off! Tracing the shield and the pipe back towards the front of the car, this piece of heatshield was a sort of "Y" shape and made of two halves that fit around the pipe with 3 clamps (this part of the exhaust branches to both banks of the V6 engine into one pipe that runs to the first muffler/cat and has the lambda sensors, one for each branch). One of the clamps had disappeared at the bottom of the "Y" and when I checked the other 2, they looked like the attached pic! Eek! Seeing as I bought a bunch of Steel cable ties a little while ago to re-affix the last back-box to the rubber mount where the mounting bracket had corroded away (I still haven't done that job yet!) I thought this would be a great time to patch it up and move on with the oil cooler pipe and ATF change I had planned. I also found two nuts & bolts that were "missing" from a section just above this heatshield on another piece that I could quite see, so rummaged in the toolbox and found some 20mm M8 nuts & bolts that fitted. I had sorta forgotten about the patch-up till I had the missus start the car after the ATF change so we could get it on the ground and level it off to check the fluid level and top up as required. She said "where's the rattle gone?!" :)

  14. So being a bank hol weekend and me being a glutton for punishment, I decided to finally replace Automatic Transmission Fluid and the leaky oil cooler pipes (part number: 32907-48030) bolted under the front bumper of Mr Lex. One thing to note is to ensure you order the new part 32907-48031 and not just a replacement for the original - it is not clear where or how you would know a part has been revised by Toyota/Lexus but for extensive research beforehand! The replacement part is identical but for 2 rubber grommets and 2 metal (zinc?) collets (see Pic below) cost is around £50-60 (expensive for what it is!). For just a straight automatic transmission fluid change, please see the excellent guide on our US pals LOC site: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-2nd-gen-2004-2009/511594-transmission-fluid-change-diy-and-pics.html - WARNING: The picture of the hoses on the post is annotated incorrectly and is the hose on the far right of the cooler pipe, everything else was good. Using the above method, I managed to retrieve 7.2 litres of old fluid (some in the cooler radiator looked like molasses syrup and was almost as thick!) Before fitting the new part, I wanted to avoid the corrosion from starting and thought I'd use up some of a can of black Lidl "Hammerite-style" spray as the replacement is made from identical metal as the original and is by far the worst corroded part on my 12yr old, 108k miles RX300.

  16. The Lexus used car warranty should cover the Nav system, if not the sales of goods act will be your friend. "All Approved Pre-Owned Lexus Car Warranties have the same level of cover as the Lexus new vehicle warranty, with the exception of batteries, interior trim and corroded exhausts."

  19. B mode is for going down steep hills where you would engage low gear if in a manual car. It's not meant for normal use. I think it's best to let the car decide when to recharge its batteries. You can help by being observant and ease off for example when approaching red traffic lights.

  20. I've not used 'B' mode much, other than on a steep hill where I don't need to accelerate. I find it slows you down too much and drivers behind may wonder why I am going so slow. I think the car does enough regenerative braking on it's own without any help from me. I may be wrong of course but it does seem to cope quite well without my input. :)

  22. I know, that this is a pretty old topic, bud as you can see on the gauge it says 1/1, 1/2 and R which is a reserve not E as empty. Fuel tank have a capacity of 45litres, warning lights comes on when there is more than 10 litres left (aproximately something about 13 litres of fuel) so something about 1 hundred miles or 160 kilometrs are left on your range. I'm filling it up when I reach R mark on gauge.

  23. It would be a lot of work for very little reward - consider the DVD player installed in the car only allows you to play it when parked up (hand brake on) - ok, there are work arounds to enable it to play while driving but it is a distraction. The car cam would be the same I would imagine. Some car cams have screens attached but are so small that you struggle to see them when driving so the option gets turned off.

  24. Yeah I guess so. Depends on the total package of course! I think Im going for White too. So it appears that Mesa red makes a comeback on 4RX, Vanilla Mist and Velvet Black carry on, Mercury grey, Arctic Pearl, Burgundy red, Atlantic blue and the Brown colour have been removed. So all in all - colours are F-Sport white, Sonic White, Caviar (US name for the metallic black), Autumn Shimmer (US name for the new brown), Sonic Titanium, Mesa red, Nightfall (US name for blue), Sonic Silver and Vanilla Mist. BTW has anyone noticed the "CUSTOMIZE" option on the drive mode select? Looks like we can change the settings! Also, it looks like Active Stabilizer is only available on 450h F-Sport, not 200t Taken from clublexus:

  25. Thats a stonking price BUT - XL? Completely unneeded on the Lexus RX - XL basically means stiffer sidewalls = worse ride comfort Personally, Id go for the Michelin Latitude Tour HP in 235/55 r19 101v fitment, firstly because I have them and they're really good tyres, others also have them and highly recommend them and they are standard fitment in the US where they value a quiet, long life tyre with good comfort.

  27. Hi Matt and welcome to the LOC. We are a friendly bunch and some of us are very knowledgeable about the finest car ever made. I am pleased you had a pleasant experience with Lexuschap, unlike the guy who bought an LS of him that lost in excess of 100,000 miles in the few hours from the moment he bought it and Lexuschap presenting it on Ebay. Mike.

  29. He has had feedback four times in the last year for car sales, all positive. Lexuschap has also had four positive feedbacks for car sales - three Lexuses and a Mazda - in the last year. I really really dislike this witch-hunt against this guy or guys. One member is suggesting physical violence against him (I reported that to the mods but didn't even get the courtesy of a reply, so I suppose threatening language is OK here); another says beware, he sold a car for less than he paid for it at auction - what exactly is the complaint here?; another says he has had no recent feedback but clicking on his username shows you that he has. Let me tell you a little story. I have sold two cars on eBay in the last couple of years, one for my daughter and one for my son. My daughter's Berlingo was serviced and checked over at a good independent local garage before putting it up for sale. Geezer bought it without a test drive, called a couple of hours later and said it had developed a fault which I must have known about. I got the garage to call him (they insisted they had detected no problem, and I never even drove the car personally), but he still left nasty feedback on eBay. My son's Audi A3 was main dealer serviced before the sale. Geezer took it for a test drive, drove away, two weeks later said it had a fault that I must have known about. Again, I got the dealer to talk to him, they had detected no problem, but he still left very nasty feedback. The moral of the story is that even the most honest of people can appear to be a dodgy dealer. My feedback has had at the same time two car sales negatives, making me look like an absolute a***hole. Both times the car sold for quite a bit below market, had been serviced and checked over, and as far as I know was straight and true. It's very easy to get worked up into a rage against someone, but things here with Lexuschap have gone too far. I bought an LS400 off him - so, unlike virtually everyone commenting on him, I have actually met him and done business with him - and it was a good deal with a very nice bloke. If you sort through all the stuff that has been written about him, as far as I can make out one member is pretty sure that he mis-described a car's mileage. That's it. If that makes him despicable, then what am I? I hear what you say but the facts are their if care to look for them One in particular when he bought an LS400 with galactic mileage on it which was backed up by the guy that sold it to him but then mysteriously appeared on ebay a couple of days later minus 150,000 miles. I suppose he could have driven it backwards for a period of time but this I doubt. His history is there for you to find if care to look for it but you seem not to want to not acquaint yourself with that side of lexuschap. Nearly all his feedback is written by himself the prices that appear to show what he sold it for are also fictitious, I could go on and on. As an LOC member you should be glad that these dishonest dealers are bought to the attention of the membership. You had a good experience so you say but there are plenty that haven't. As for your dealings with selling cars through ebay. You are not an unregistered ebay dealer selling dozens of cars and your experience has no bearing on the subject of lexuschap. His ID that he using at the moment huzzy=sal has had no feedback left on it for up to a year. If it was just a few months it would show how many months the last FB was left. As for his Lexuschap FB its just a work of pure fiction. If his trading is so clean why does he have to change his ID? No honest trader has to do it. His dishonest dealings are archived on here and are there for all to read. I will continue to warn the membership of his dealings and you should perhaps be relieved that you didnt have a bad experience with him. Mike

  30. I have already reported him to Trading Standards over a car which miraculously lost over 100,000 miles. I checked with the guy he bought it from and he confirmed that the mileage was now wrong by around 100,000 miles and they did nothing. He has been reported to ebay for trading as a private person and descriptions that are so far from the truth they are just works of pure fiction and nothing has been done. Cant hurt though to keep putting his name up in front of the various agencies which includes the Police. Clocking a car is a criminal offence punishable by spells in prison. Mike

  32. To be fair, he's probably only been singled out because he is a regular seller of Lexus LS models, and as such has often been linked to by new members who want advice on one of his cars. You're right though, there are loads like him who make low bids on lots of cars, knowing that some will accept his bid through ignorance, or sometimes because they can't be bothered to go through the normal selling process. When he bids low like that he has already spoiled your auction. As for singling him out, this is a Lexus forum and he sells almost always Lexus LSs so anyone who comes across as dodgy as lexuschap is immediately going to be posted to warn your fellow members and friends. lexuschap has put himself into this position let no one run away with the idea that this guy is being persecuted. One day he will get his just deserts as all his type do. Mike.

  33. Guys, whatever positive views one may have of this specific Trader the simple fact is that even when, just the once, he is found out for falsifying mileage then he is totally damned in my book. That is an illegal practice and makes him totally untrustworthy............................ no IFS or BUTS ........... it's an illegal practice Malc

  34. I was wondering what you was expecting with regards to MPG! Like the above says, 5.6 to 60 MPH and 155MPH (limited) top speed, a big family luxury saloon and all the driving aids. Achieving over 30MPG is outstanding.
