  1. Whilst getting the rims refinished (local Lexus Centre paying) I thought I'd get the calipers painted professionally by a garage next door. The calipers were fully removed from the car, cleaned off including smoothing down, painted, stickers applied to the fronts and lacquered up before reassembly, bleeding, etc. The finished resut looks good in the flesh with yellow calipers against black rims. The rims needed refinishing as they weren't returning to gloss after being washed. Now they're been respired, re powder coated and lacquered. Here's the results - taken with the phone and close up on my driveway so don't show then off to their best. Also the photos have some sin highlights on the rims so they look marked or scuffed. They're not, it's just the photo. 2. I think it was the whole dvd unit thing in the boot which would have fixed the heater bit and the satnav would have been in english too, but with the one I had it also had a separate dvd player with remote so I could watch dvd movies on it

  3. Thanks guys! My wife has a plan on her Lexus RX400H and the service is great and the predictable cost gives peace of mind. Seeing that the 60k major service will be due on my F at some point next year then I'll go for it. She gets a Lexus courtesy car for a tenner a day and that also may come in handy for me as work can be unpredictable. You never know they may give me an RCF for a day when it goes in for its next service...lol!!! I can’t help but think of this Alan Partridge clip now that we have 2x Lexus at my home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YllyBr_4Kxk P.S I may pop down to the Bluewater meet!

  5. Hi Mark and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over. Regards Mike.

  6. I think a lot of it depends what you WANT from your warranty? I wanted peace of mind - as far as is possible. Buying used from Lexus, i got 12 months 'free'. Though did buy 2 more years also. ( less than £900 ) But as important is buying a decent one in the first place - such that any warranty is more of a fall-back than a necessity. Maybe...?

  7. I've done a lot of mods to my boats used on the sea and wouldn't think of using anything but stainless steel bolts for long life and ease of removal.

  8. Mike, Thanks for the post - astonishing value and a rear camera as well!! I take your point about the distraction of the camera screen but in my research I have checked many manuals and the better cameras do allow the screen to go blank after a predetermined time. I'll add your suggested camera to my short list! Robin

  9. That's the one! I remembered the same problem having been posted up before but couldn't remember what the method was. Basically you will need to oull out the boot light unit and find the +12 volt feed to it ( there are normally only 2 wires, the other goes to earth/chassis. Obtain a 12 Volt car battery ( or move another car close by) and use jump leads. Connect the negative terminal of the battery to the chassis/earth/metalwork of the Lexus and then the positive supply to the boot light positive terminal ( be very careful not to cause a short circuit doing this) You should then have enough power to open the doors. Having looked at the circuit diagram the wire colour you need to connect the red positive jump lead on the boot light should be red

  10. Hi Chris I use Falcon Workshop Supplies for ss nuts, bolts, washers, screws etc - cheaper than cheap but not sure if they do multipacks of common sizes. They have thousands of items listed so maybe have a search through. I bought the bolts for my roof bar blanking kit rather than buy Lexus ones - about a tenth of the price ! I would think that everything would be metric on a Lexus but I don't know for sure. I'm also renovating my '81 TR7 DHC which has a mix of UNC, UNF and metric and Falcon have been able to supply everything I need. They also have stuff like flanged bolts which manufacturers seem to use. Cheers Dan

  13. Could well be the parking brake drum shoes, one simple test is to chock the front wheels and with the car in neutral, jack the rear offside tyre up and rotate by hand. Should spin very quietly and smoothly. Worth a try! Did Lexus make a note at the time on the test drive when you noticed the noise? If so you could go back and say now the car has been driven and "oxidation" removed, why is noise still there? You may still get something done under warranty or sales of goods act... I really can't stand the "they all do it" that pisses me off! They don't all do it as other 450 owners will tell you! Although, I'd love to see Rayaans turn up at your dealer complaining something is wrong with his 450 cos it *doesn't* make that sound!!!!

  14. They did a sterling job, even though they thought it would be a funny joke to put their masterpiece into a box marked TOY OTA. I obviously new it was not a toy, although not at all sure what an 'ota' is (must mean something amusing in Levinsonian) when I plugged it in all was well. I blame Will.I.am for all of this......
