  1. smart repair outfits probably will do it for less than you imagine.... I would rather take it to them than spend money on stuff and not be guaranteed as good a result as a pro can do.

  2. UK vehicles have an interior sensor so that the alarm system qualifies as a Thatcham Category 1 alarm which improves the insurance rating. It is positioned so that it can properly detect interior movement, pushing it further back and then placing objects in front of it would affect its ability to do that.

  3. David, if you have the forum gold membership, then you should be able to get between 10-15% off the price of the services. Ceramic paint protection, I eventually got Koch Chemie 1k nano applied to the paintwork. Much better than Supagard and it only worked out at £200 which included a machine polish first. Paintwork is now as smooth as silk, well worth it.

  4. I know very little about the mechanical side of cars and I have to rely and trust garages. I have read all the way through this thread - not fully understanding all the technical jargon - but what a story of persistence and patience. The good news was there was nothing wrong with the car - someone had left a fuel clamp on! Brilliant - you guys on here are amazing - I take my hat off to you all - you show a REAL dedication to the mark!

  5. It seems to me that in most cases LS owners spend money on their cars replacing parts that have worn out over time as apposed to costly repairs due to premature failure of a component as in the Audi post above. That's the difference between Audi (for example) and Lexus. My friends have spent fortunes on repairs to their old Mercs and BMTroubleyous. In the States, BMW is known as Buy More Warranty.

  14. I don't know if anyone agrees but to me Rx tyre prices seem overpriced compared to other sizes & the only reason I can think of that it might be due to a limited use of this size tyre ? I recently had 2 Nexen SUI's fitted at Lexus Manchester when the car went in for a service, they pricematched the tyre cost at £185 for the 2 and so far I'm very happy with them, they are a lot less noisy than the factory Bridgestone Potenza's & they also have pretty good ratings, for economy B & wet grip B and they are a lot cheaper than every other tyre manufacturer ... for info there are 2 versions of Nexen tyre for the Rx (RUI & SUI) ...

  15. Definitely go for the F-Sport - looks much better and handles a dream with the 4 wheel steering. With Lexus people dont really tend to change cars every 3 years, its just random as they rarely have any issues whatsoever. With Lexus dealers in the UK, they seem to reduce the price between £200-1000 on used vehicles. Its highly unlikely you'll get more than that unless the car has been lying around for ages and they just want to get rid. The one in Sidcup has been there for a while now - should be able to get it for £25k. You mention a tow bar - make sure you check the towing capacity. As far as I am aware, hybrids can't tow very much. Just to throw in a curveball - have you considered the GS300h? Lexus Leicester have a very rare 14 plate GS300h in Crimson red with Red leather interior and 12" screen. Dont be fooled by the 0-62 times, they feel quicker than the figures suggest and you'd rarely need more power than it provides anyway. Of course, it would depreciate less, be newer and cost less in fuel too. Of course, the car is still under warranty until 2017 also!

  17. Hi, Unsure why this happened to you! When this happened on one of my MR2's many moons ago, you had to put the key in the ignition and then press the lock button then the unlock button (on the key, not the car), you might have to cycle through lock and unlock a couple of times tho. I can't remember if the keys had to be turned to get the dashboard lights on just before car starts tho before pressing the buttons. This was due to something to do with a rolling code transmitted from key to car - each time it's pressed, a different code was sent, then both units move on to the next code. If either unit "forgets" which code to send, the above procedure puts them back in synch. Can't say I've heard it happen before on an RX, but worth a try! Let us know what happens!
