  1. Finally got around to looking at these.- the tilt function when reversing worked well when I bought the car but over time it has reduced to the point where it just twitched when moving into reverse. I planned to have a look at it months ago but just never got round to doing it. I done it today and took pictures of each step. It took half an hour for the first mirror and 20 minutes for the second so not a time consuming job. I needed to replace two worn plastic motor worm gear cogs which had partly stripped and I gave the mirrors a very good clean inside and out. Re-greased and oiled. They had accumulated a lot of dirt over the years and I don't think anyone had been in them since it rolled off the production line so it was a well worthwhile job. They are now working spot on and are holding their memory positions when starting the car. I could not get them to stop working after testing them for about 10 minutes so am happy and confident they are now fixed. I think the winter has a big effect on them when they are frozen up - they will automatically try to set themselves to the user position and also will try to move when reversing which puts a strain on the motors making them skip and strip teeth. Anyway - what I have done below worked for me - I have two good motor units left spare which I sourced which you can use the plastic work gear from or the units themselves if anyone does this and finds they need them. Pictures below are in sequence marked from picture 1 to 14. I have never managed to fit them into a post with instructions against them so the instruction is on the picture itself.

  5. Yes, the Volvo has an electric range of up to 32 miles, and you can drive on electric only at speeds of up to 78mph, Regenerative braking helps charge the battery, as does the diesel engine if you use it. There is a battery save button that can be pressed to reserve the power in the batteries if you are on a longer journey, and that power can then be used when you get into stop/start traffic. There are three drive modes - Pure (battery only), Hybrid (uses whichever is most appropriate, electric, diesel, or both), and Power (combines both hybrid and diesel to give nearly 300bhp and the 640Nm of torque, turning the car into a bit of a monster). The V60 plug ins I've been looking at all have Adaptive lights, adaptive cruise, collision mitigation systems, reversing camera, blind spot, lane departure system,. 650W Harman Kardon stereo, and tilt and slide sunroof. Pretty good for around £35k, being just a few months old, and with very low mileage. I also like the zero road tax, no London congestion charge, and negligible fuel costs.

  6. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I had a 1999 GS300 as a stand in when my LS400 was being repaired, still miss it now but the body shop guy bought it off me so still see it around.

  7. Hi Desmond and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over. If you think your GS is smooth you wait until you have had a ride in an LS. Regards Mike.

  9. Our 450h is driven without any thought for fuel consumption - not thrashed just used and enjoyed as it should be - lots of town stuff plus some faster stuff too - all in all we get around 31mpg which as Rayaan said is more than reasonable for the size, weight and performance of the vehicle. The EU tests are a nonsense and Lexus cannot be blamed for just doing what every other manufacturer does. We owned a ML320 diesel for two years - our average mpg was 21. Prior to that a Merc C180 petrol which only averaged 26mpg. I also have. An ISF so I know what low fuel consumption can really feel like but for me the RX is really good all round mix of comfort, pace and economy. Forget about trying to get 44mpg - life is too short - just enjoy what a great car you have purchased.

  10. Welcome Desmond, congratulations on your newly acquired car, I'm sure that you will get a great deal of pleasure from it. I felt just like you when I got my first Lexus, an IS220d, it was the best car ever for me too. I then went on to an IS250 and that became the best ever and I've done it again now by going to the IS300h. You will also get a great deal of pleasure from this forum, there are lots of great people on here, always ready and willing to help. Ask any question and you will get an answer. Enjoy your car. Sun is shining this morning so off you go for a nice long drive!

  11. .................. if it's a bulb the likely culprit would be the offside rear brake light ...... these only seem to last about 18 years before they fail ........ a common fault Malc

  12. You only get warning triangles on cars that are likely to breakdown. There is no spare wheel so you will not take all the skin off your knuckles changing a wheel so no need for a first aid kit. Enjoy your great car. 😂😂😜😜

  13. I am afraid a test drive is a very slippery slope, Lexus Bradford loaned me one for a day and I wanted it before I had driven 2 miles down the road. Good look resisting LOL. The is300 made my CT seem very ordinary
