  1. Had a rattle coming from my glove box for a few days. Solved it ... by taking out the 'heavy' Lexus Book. Seemed the weight was too much for the glove box! ( Wish it was cooled by the a/c though )

  2. You're driving a 3.5l V6 petrol hauling around 2 tonnes of weight, expecting 44mpg would be idiotic even if stated by the manufacturers. These cars are tested unrealistically. It's no different from any other manufacturer, in fact, Mercedes quote 70mpg from their c220 cdi. I got 35mpg in town - that's what you call bad. You have to understand that you'd struggle to do 18mpg in town if the car had no hybrid setup and was just a 3.5l V6. So 30mpg is very good. In fact, even Audi's Q7 3.0tdi, with a smaller engine and being a diesel only manages 25mpg in town so the Lexus is very good regardless of whether it achieves the fuel economy figures or not.

  4. Thanks Womble. Sadly the road tax/car import process works totally different here in republic of Ireland :( no workarounds. I've looked hard! I really don't want to change and like you would love to run it for ages more but the financial reality is that at 1800 euros a year, it's just not justifiable. saying that I may keep her for a further year as the cost of changing to something else may be more economical in a year's time if ISF prices dont go down much more... Arghh see I'm trying to talk myself out of this already :) The truth be told the IS-F is a tough tough act to follow and I've owned a R35 GTR, driven an M3 and M4, 996 turbo and other performance cars. I even thought of just switching to a IS 250!

  5. Based on thoughts here, I have relocated my phone holder - nearer to the rear view mirror. I wouldn't want to have an accident and 'interfere' with an air bag. The safety factor and the numerous air bags ( 7 ? ) persuaded me...

  6. To be fair if you leave it off you just more of the 'Lexus' experience which is smooth and quiet, gentle upshifts and downshifts The car is never going to be a snarling beastie, but leaving the switch on can surprise the Beemers and Audi drivers who 'own' the roads and sit on your backside (or in your boot!) demanding they get past lol

  7. Before buying the is, we looked at a Mercedes e class coupe, but it was just so unrefined and bland inside, if lexus did a similarly practical size coupe, I am sure it would compete well against the Mercedes / audi a5/bmw my.

  8. We bought the 450h expecting it to achieve 30mpg on my wives daily commute which is a 14 mile round trip in rush hour traffic and she currently averages 31 which we are very please with. This is achieved without the use of any 'hybrid techniques' and considering the car is a 2.2 tonne 3.5 V5 petrol with 295bhp is very impressive.

  10. Only had my 450h a couple of weeks but.. For what it's worth I drive carefully in mixed town and short motorway journeys daily and havn't done better than 30mpg .. however I did a run on the A1 .. Manchester to Newcastle return and going worked out at 38.7 mpg at speeds varying between 50mph and 70mph on the return slightly faster at 60mph and 80mph worked out at 36mpg These I feel are realistic figures even being a hybrid.. far from those quoted and somewhat disappointing really

  11. Ebay varies, some sellers ask stupid prices ( normally breakers yards selling parts you will never need like a wheel arch liner) and then you get the private guys who on the whole are reasonable in pricing. I'm still looking for 2 decent series IV door mirrors or just the glass.

  12. Good that its sorted. The EGR is something you will need to keep a monitor on. It will likely coke up again reasonably quick if you are only doing short journeys. There are some good videos on Youtube, and on this site too, all about how to clean the EGR yourself. Its not that tricky...once you've done it a few times you will do it in 40 mins. When i had a 220d i used to check it every 8000 miles or so. There is a piston inside..check also that the spring is making it seat properly each time you clean it. If its not seated properly it can upset the mixture and make it run quite rough. You might want to look at additives from the likes of powerenhancer.co.uk. I used Archoil AR7200 at 5ml per 50 litres at each fill up. You can also buy top grade Diesel , but I found it cheaper to go the AR route at the time as premium diesel was a lot more per litre. I also put through a can of BG244 every 8000 miles to clean out carbon deposits. Wynns do a DPF treatment flush too. I expect a few other 220d owners will offer their views too. Its worth reading up on all this as you don't want to be facing big bills....or just keep renewing that warranty with Lexus. Mine had a new engine after the head went ...it was covered by Lexus....but the bill I saw was nearly £5000. Best of luck with it all.

  13. When I picked mine up from a Lexus service I kept hearing a faint tinny rattling noise from the front drivers side wheel all the way home ... sounded like it was coming from the brake shield ... I found a 10" flathead screwdriver jammed in next to it ... lol ... Holy moly lol. Would have been bad if it got lodged in the alloy wheel! Hmm, really weird today. Took the whole family out to the Next Sale lol. With everyone in the car, it doesnt make the noise?

  15. Funnily enough, my wife calls mine a boat. However, many boats are things of beauty, including my little 12 foot Tideway dinghy. The 400 may look like a boat, but what do most modern cars look like? Homogeneous, over designed, over developed, under engineered, soul less, hard riding, expensive to maintain, fast depreciating tin boxes. They all look the same. I watched an episode of Minder the other day (the proper one with Dennis Waterman) and as Arthur Daley drove around in his X, I could name every car and van instantly, because they were so distinctive, with individual personalities. I could not do that now, even if modern cars were interesting enough for me to try.

  16. My wife and daughter do not like the exterior of my LS 400, but it may be the size, they think it's too big. I think it looks elegant and understated. I agree with Pete about the 430, which looks as if it's trying too hard. I think the simplicity of the 400 makes it less likely to appear dated.

  17. As I work on a lot of LS cars must say that i have changed quite a few radiators as the gearbox oil cooler fails. Fortunately for my customers all of the symptoms was detected early enough and only had gearbox oil in the cooling system and no coolant in the gearbox. In my opinion it would not matter what anti freeze you use if the gearbox oil cooler fails it is not due to corrosion but fails on the joints and seams.
