  1. The engine ECU is located on the other side of the panel directly below the glovebox. The 1st step as always when working on the car is to remove the negative battery terminal to remove the risk of anything being shorted out during the process. Step 1. Open the glove box lid and prise out the 2 plastic covers over the support arms by pushing in an outward direction. Once these are removed the support arms simply pull off the bracket on the glove box. The glove box compartment is hld in position by 5 plastic stud fixings, 3 along the bottom and 2 along the top. Using a suitable tool prise these out and then using a plastic blade depress the top edge of the compartment then pull it forward slightly. Remove the glove box light wiring by pushing the lug on the connector and then carefully pull out the right side of the glove box further and ensure the stay arms are pushed back through the slots. The right side stay arm is attached to the glovebox with a nylon connecting cord and damper mechanism so take care not to break this on removal. Once the inner compartment is removed you can now access and remove the 2 10mm bolts holding the panel at the top either side of the glove box door. From here remove the lower passenger side kick panel containing the foot well light, to remove the light socket twist the bulb holder. This will then allow access and removal to a further 3 10mm bolts at the bottom of the panel, one at each end and one in the middle. Carefully lower the panel down to the floor of the car to reveal the ECU as shown in the picture below, the loom will allow this without straining. Reverse the above proceedure to refit everything.

  3. Did you actually read the OP's question? He said that we wants to put LEDs in them and to use them as DRLs, not as fog lights!

  5. Definitely try David Smith of DK Loudspeaker Service. He's based in Romford and is a true expert in reconing / drive unit refurbishment. He very successfully fitted a new surround to the LF unit in the MK1 I had, and in fact I've sent drive units to him several times for repair. Very reasonable cost, too. The difficulty you will face in replacing the unit with a generic one, aside from the Thiele-Small parameters, is that the mounting lugs are different heights. There is no pattern drop-in replacement.

  6. It is illegal to use Fog Lights when it isn't foggy it is also dangerous as they blind on coming motorist. Why on earth do you want Fog lights to come on when it isn't foggy? If your answer to this is, I only use them when it is foggy then leave the wiring as it is as they are legally only used in conjunction with your with your other lights on the car hence they are wired that they only come on when the headlights are used. Mike.

  7. In the HiFi world, rotted surrounds of old loudspeaker cones are often repaired with new foam/rubber. Have a word with Wilmslow Audio, they may be able to help restore your original unit.

  8. Hopefully you are alone Philip, at least those are my thoughts anyway. Without the cameras, the scumbags will get away with anything and everything on a regular basis. Did you actually read the detail of my original post? People jump red lights everyday, I don't get overly concerned by that, just a little irritated but, when a driver actually pulls out from behind me in stationary traffic waiting at a red light, and then proceeds across the junction, then I'm afraid that that takes the biscuit! I wonder what your thoughts would have been had you have been making a left turn at those lights, and you had had a head-on collision with a car that was on your side of the road (which you would not have expected at a light controlled junction), as this driver would have been. Would you not have been thankful that someone was able produce crystal clear evidence that shows that he was at fault and driving dangerously? Equally, there may have been a pedestrian who saw that the lights had changed to red and the first car in the line had stopped, and so he assumes it is safe to cross, but no, some idiot pulls out from that line of traffic and he has to jump out of the way, or worse still gets mown down! What if that pedestrian was a member of your family? Sorry but I am a fan of CCTV, the more the better as far as I am concerned. I have first hand experience of shoplifters taking my profits away. My thoughts are that if you can't abide by the rules of society then you should be removed from it until such time as you learn respect for others and their property, but that's another story.

  9. Yes thank you ,It was quite straight forward did not have to remove the pulley but I did have to go out and get hold of 2 24mm spanners which I didn't have. That's what took me so long the diy shops were closed when I needed them, It went back on a lot easier than it came off but bleeding the system took a good while. While it was off I noticed that one of the pipes was badly corroded so took it off cleaned it up treated and sprayed it. Its just today passed the dreaded mot so alls good.
