  1. Hi all Just replaced the discs and pads on the rear of the RX, this car has a full service history and passed its MOT in January. I found three of the four sliding pins were siezed so how were they working! One was so bad I had to call on the assistance of my local garage who managet ot free it off. It's all back together now but they will need replacing VERY soon. How come now one tells you that there is an adjuster foe the hand brake, I tried all sorts of things to look through the small hole to find it but not being a keyhole surgeon fail on the first side so it took a long time to remove the drum/disc. The second one was a breeze. Someone on here mentioned a star adjuster but failed to point out that you need to set the hole just past the 6 o'clock position to the rear of the car to be in line. We'll se what happens when I change the fronts tomorrow!!!! Cheers every one.

  2. I'm sorry to say that I've little faith in main dealers, having had my IS-200 and my IS-300 both with full FLSH having not been serviced as the specified requirements list, I started to opt for the local specialist to me, my IS-250 SE-L has not been to a main dealer from new, only for a recall job, when asked why by Lexus, I stated my two previous cars and the issues, when asked I told them where I go n why I opted for the specialist, they know the garage well, but they never gave any explanation or offered any comfort/reassurance for me to take it to them. Being Ex Lexus mechanics, they know the IS-F too, have a couple on their books. They quoted me £4-500 for the 60k service

  3. I'd try moving the mirror in all directions several times which sometimes loosens up the mechanism.

  5. Nice work. Any plans to clean the surface rust up and paint them with a discrete high temp paint to preserve them, seeing as they are consumable.....

  9. The Techstream software didn't seem able to alter this feature (not in C-BEST settings although could be hidden on my model) but I did find out that even on my old Lex that the system does/can remember wing mirror positions tied in with the seat memory settings for other drivers! So I was thinking that as our lex only has 2 drivers, set the third memory (M3) setting so the seat remains in the same position as M1 (main driver) and the mirrors are as low as you require. OK so trade off is that they don't auto-dip on reverse as far as you like but you can just tap M3 and let the car save you from fluffing with the mirror controls whilst trying to park! Personally, it annoyed the heck out of me so I turned off auto-dip but I am fortunate enough to not have to park against kerbs on a daily basis! Hope this helps, Chris

  11. The early Ls400s had a clutch on the compressor that engaged and disengaged depending on the load the compressor was under .When stationary and revving at 650 which is normal it would frequently engage the clutch and the revs would go up to 850 or 900 after a minute the clutch would disengage and the revs dropped back to 650 .If the car was being driven the change was hardly noticable unless in cruise control because the higher revs kept the system pressured longer .The Mark4 was fitted with a new compressor type that maintains a constant pressure, so the clutch stays engaged all the time the A/C is switched on there is no change in the normal tickover revs and the clutch only disengages when the A/C is off.

  12. They are interchangeable, if you ever need to fix an early car, always buy the replacement from a later one.

  13. I really like the look of it. The Sunday Times today estimates £60k and on sale Autumn 2016. I translate that as Spring 2017 and £65k

  14. Might be able to get a universal remote that'll work, again eBay is your friend! A silly thing maybe, but have you thoroughly cleaned/checked your car? It's amazing what you find under the rear seats and especially down the back of the rear armrest (where the remote and/or headphones are stored!
