  1. Should that be - I was so proud of my LS that I showed him around - I know I would. Down in Devon two years ago, had GS300 and iS220 owners wanting to have a chat and a peek. The GS chap had given up his LS400 for a the 300, a nice car for sure, but I love the classic look of my Mk4.

  6. Congratulations on the purchase of the GS430, yes that's correct - each time you refuel it resets this counter and then bases this on fuel consumption since you put fuel in. So if you put some fuel in and then went straight onto say a dual carriageway or motorway, then that would explain that figure. Agree with all the other comments regarding the fuel consumption for the GS430, also I think even at independents you would have found the LS400 more expensive to service most probably. Having had an LS400 back in the day both lovely cars for different reasons. Enjoy your GS.

  7. My driver's window has always done this, down around 4" and it rattles, above or below this no rattle. Never got around to finding the reason I just move it a bit if it's in the rattle zone.

  8. On the Vrs you use them on the sill lip lifts them up a treat hence the split, put them on a trolley jack flat on a jacking point on car lifts easy they are solid rubber, had mine a couple of years works a treat. People my age used to use a block of wood on the jack, now use these they are brilliant and cheap to boot.

  9. Ok so you want to fix this yourself buy you don't know what's involved in an A/C service or why the calliper has siezed? Well good luck but Ok..... A/C service consists of re gasing the unit, changing the filter and cleaning the system out. You won't be able to regas it yourself buy you can change the pollen filter. Also cleaning through the system is a specialist job. Your rear calliper is siezed probably due to the piston inside the calliper corroding and sticking. You will either have to take the calliper off, take it apart and try to clean the pistons up or buy a new calliper. No it is not ok to get an alignment at kwik fit, not in my opinion anyway. Go somewhere that knows what they're doing in regards to geometry and wheel alignment. There's at term "throwing good money after bad" that's what inevitably happens when you use kwik fit.

  11. The discs were really badly corroded and crusty from the rotor hub to the edges - I made a new electrolysis rig and have both discs and a caliper mount in there and will leave overnight. The corrosion was so bad it had started making grooves on the outer edges of the pads and the seized pin on the near/passenger side caliper was causing the pads to drag and make a noise when braking (I thought it was a wear indicator but not!). With the brakes in this state I wasn't happy to install the new pads to have them ruined so have stripped everything for a good old clean. Oddly, when pushing the caliper piston back in (by hand) the seal started weeping so the whole caliper is off now and I'll refurb it before putting everything back together.

  13. PC rules but I don't play that game I am not an Lexus Garage or a Lexus employee anyone taking advice of others and trying to sue will have a hard time with me. My post was aimed at explaining the reality as compared with the information given out (to make money ) by Lexus dealers. Its based on very reasonable engineering principles and information available to anyone. People who know nothing about engineering are right to play safe and do as they are told by the manufacturer these people should never own a car out of warranty. Life is a gamble and risk is exiting .. I suggest you live a little and play the game before you die its likely to be less expensive. However I will admit the down side on cam belt issue is that the Lexus 430SC engine is an ' 'interference' engine this means that if the cam belt breaks in service it could (probably will at revs above idling) make contact with some of the valves. The result will be very expensive. However these belts are not made of rubber (as suggested by someone earlier) but a particular type of reinforced nylon and they are immensely strong. It would be very very unusual for a belt to fail in service without some sort of prior deterioration and don't forget Lexus recommend changing at 100,000 miles. That's a lot of use. It would be a great experiment to buy a belt (you can get them new from under £5) put it in a landfill site (in a waterproof bag) and dig it up in ten years time and test it.. I bet it would be fine !! But no one can guarantee anything in engineering.. Its all about statistics when looking at manufacturing reliability.
