  1. I reckon Mike and I are the two most traditional guys on this forum (some people might say boring old f&rts)..........but the Lexus, as it comes out of the box, is just perfect.

  2. After 3 weeks with my new (to me) '63 IS300h Premier, so far very pleased with it. The feeling of "luxury" when sitting in the car is fantastic, the leather soft and sumptuous, the ventilated seats great in this weather (if a bit feeble) the sunroof (yes very rare!) is lovely, providing light to the cabin, which is bright anyway with Ivory leather. The drive is sublime, incredibly refined, compared to my previous diesel, and the economy seems to be around 50mpg. The downsides are the infotainment system, with regular crashes, unable to answer incoming calls, and complaints of echos but apparently only for the first minute or so, my previous £200 7 year old Chinese unit never crashed and was far simpler to use, with house numbers being able to be entered when postcode search was used. Is it possible to mute the sat nav when using the phone? The only other niggle being a rattle seemingly from around the sat nav unit and dash, which hopefully will be solved by the dealer, my 9 year old Hyundai with 117,000 miles was rattle free. Overall, though the car is fantastic, and really has a feel good factor, the best thing about it being it's exclusivity - it is not a BMW or Audi!

  3. I took an RCF for a 3 hour blast to the EVO triangle in North Wales whilst my recall work was being done. I found it to be highly impressive and it sounded great. The only bit of the interior that grated was the lower part of the centre console where the plastic reminded me of an AKAI music centre I bought in 1989. Interestingly, when I got back in my ISF for the cross country drive home, it immediately felt light and agile.

  6. Had my car just over two years now and it's just passed it's MOT again first time. I've had 12 cars before and none of them ever passed an MOT first time - this one has done it twice in a row! In two years, and 30000 miles, I've had a new set of front discs and pads, a bonnet stay holder and that's it. Even the tyres are still good! I'm sure I read somewhere that the original IS200 passes the MOT first time more that any other car. Not sure how that statistic was arrived at, but my experiences seem to back it up. Happy bunny.

  7. The usual reviews will be out soon and just as Lexus; Alfa will get; "good car but for the same price you could get a German one, so we can't recommend it" My Giulietta QV is supposed to be arriving off the boat next week so I'll see what the quality is up to on modern Alfa's.

Ha Ha It's great to watch it from behind, it has a great rear end and to know the car in front is mine :-)

  9. I think the boot looks like the cleanest place to be, so I'll not be putting in a bid. My kids make a blinking mess of my car, but I do keep them clean, so maybe this seller keeps pigmy goats in the footwells!!!

  11. There's plenty of ways to connect your phone the car for data streaming. Only problem is where as BMW allows for Internet browsing, apps, spotify intergration, email etc once connected, on the Lexus you can do hardly anything. Apart from Google street view, which as my wife points out, you can just look out of the window :) BMW also charge a subscription for internet access and some of their connected services after between 1 and 3 years from first activation. Some of the forum comments from BMW users says it is crap too! I can stream spotify and tuneinradio over Bluetooth using my phone. The ability to Google search for a hotel or new building from the Sat nav and navigate directly too it is good. It makes up for the poor search for POI's in the nav unit. The traffic updates are pretty good too, it is the same service/data as BMW use for their RTTI . Overall, it is good for me and I make use of the features.

  12. Dreaded MOT due next week on my beater ,so had grandson use Colin's Black Gasket Maker method to patch the Y pipe ,the stuff is easy to work with . So far it seems to have done the trick ,all nice and quiet again , shame about the front splitter though which he has wrecked beyond a simple duct tape repair driving onto his ramps . :iraqi-info-minister:

  13. Hi Chris, sounds weird as P codes have 4 digits after them, not 5.. Is there a p1025, that it could be? I bought a mini-VCI cable from eBay last week and have the latest techstream v10 Toyota software and it was a revelation the wealth of info I can now get back as well as change all my c-best settings, code new keys and tweak suspension settings... Not bad for 19quid!

  14. Pete, if I may ask? What would she otherwise fritter the hard-earned away on? I sincerely hope it isn't her hair; or even worse, shoes for the kids! None of them, it's her Jag that she is worried about when it has it's MOT in three weeks, I reckon it will be fine. Also a whole load of money to be burnt on getting the lounge sorted - new oak floor, built in units etc etc. If it were me, it would a the sofa, the drinks cabinet, the TV mounted on the wall, and the stereo set up for best sounds, job done. But ladies they need it different!!! As for the kids, well they can go around bare foot if the Lexus needs sorting Will take the LS to Infinity Exhausts near Bristol on saturday and see what they say, seems worth getting a reasonable job done while I actually have some pennies in the bank account

  15. You can switch that setting off yourself in one of the menu settings... unfortunately, my wife has the car today so I cannot check for you.

  16. It's an old man's car because old men have the wisdom, experience and pocket to chose vehicles that are well-designed, well-made, reliable and offer effortless, comfortable, high-quality transport. It's the motoring equivalent of a fine bottle of wine and a meal in a 3-star restaurant and not 5 pints of lager and a take-away curry.
