  1. All of this is quite funny!! A few years ago when I bought my Rover 75 Connoisseur in dark blue, after I had had it for a few weeks, I began to wish that I had got the higher spec jobby and so, I started to look around for one and luckily one turned up, exactly the same colour as mine. There were a lot of differences mind, leather seats being one of them, different alloys, computer etc etc. Went off and did the swap, got it home and the car was used on a daily basis by both of us but, it took my wife, friends and family close on 4 months before they realised that I had changed it!!!

  4. I bought a 2005 Rx300SE for my wife back in March. It had 100k on the clock with full lexus history. I also run an LS 400 mk4, so I can advise you on general comparisons with the 2 cars. Firstly, I find that fuel consumption isn't as good as expected - 21 urban and best of 25mpg cruising at 70, in other words, my LS is my economy car. General build quality whilst good, isn't to LS spec and neither is the gear change, with the box being caught out at times. I find that performance can be described as adequate with hills needing the box to change down, again it's a heavy car with nearly 100bhp less than the LS. I do enjoy sitting higher up in the car, and handling is better than I expected with little body roll and low wind and tyre noise. I also find the seating arrangement good with the rear seat being able to accommodate 2 child seats with room for an additional passenger. boot space is also very good with storage space under the floor for sundries. Like the LS, cam belt change is expensive, so make sure that it's been done and that all electrics work as they should. I didn't want the additional technicalities that the air suspended SEL had, so the SE ticked that box. Have a good look underneath as they do rust a bit under there. The good thing is that there are quite a few to choose from as they are more popular than an LS, but this is dependant where you live as I had very few to choose from in Scotland. Seems to be quite a few LS owners getting RX's these days, says a lot for brand loyalty. Pete

  5. if you phoned lexus helpline you will get the AA as we have the contract for lexus at the moment.the patrolman could plug the tyre or take the tyre to the tyre outlet ( if open) arrange to take you a reasonable distance and get the tyre repaired in the morning. during office hours the wheel could be taken by us to the tyre dealer ( all except one company who I can't name) they don't like us taking the tyre without the vehicle because they lose the opportunity to sell something else. runflats I would not personally recommend as not only are they £300 plus to replace most garages will not repair especially if they've been driven on ( which is what your able to do) and members have a lot of problems on 5 series and sometimes 3 series, although not so often. when they go they end up taking the alloy wheel as well because of the hardness of the sidewalls on these types of tyres. on another thread I replied to, over the same issue, I said the AA are experimenting with a "one size fits all" spacesaver which has different spigots to fit different fitments and the idea is that the patrol will replace the tyre with the spacesaver and either follow the member to the tyre garage to retrieve his spacesaver or if out of hours let the driver continue and a prepost paid service means the member just leaves the spacesaver at the tyre garage and they post it back.just rememember obviously the flat tyre does take up room in the boot moreso than the spacesaver. I know this is obvious to some but not always to others.

  6. It looks like it is all part of the switch. You may be able to pull off the rubber but it may have to be glued back on again. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-LEXUS-SCION-BACK-DOOR-OPENER-ASSY-OEM-84840-21010-/321597903030

  7. my hat goes off to you for attempting this - the most i have done on my LS is replace the brake pads would it help if you googles for some images of the Lexus LS400 cambelt and looked at them for guidance to ensure you have the belt routed correctly?

  8. The high beams and side lights are different bulbs (same chamber in the headlight unit though). The side lights are powered from the rather strangely named "front tail light" fuse and relay in the front-passenger side of engine compartment fuse/relay box, so it's worth a quick check to see if the fuse is OK - but more likely both bulbs have blown. The bulbs are W5W type - easy to get for pennies. If considering an LED upgrade, don't get cheap ebay bulbs, they burn out very quickly, I've been through several sets of ebay LED side lights, they barely get through 6-9 months before burning out.

  9. The gunk is single use and, depending on the nature of the puncture, the tyre should be repairable, but the tyre company guys don't like cleaning the gunk out of the tyre as it takes time and is a messy job, so many claim they can't and thus flog you a new tyre. Quicker and more money in it for them. You can push them to do it, but many will complain bitterly . Another alternative would be runflats, but given the vitriol of abuse the guys on the bmw forum give them, not sure it would be worth the expense and sacrfice to ride quality. Couldn't you have rung Lexus breakdown line?

  10. Toyota T-IV transmission fluid is made to the specification JWS 3309. Some people insist on 'Toyota' being on the label but this is unnecessary. As long as the fluid you buy is to JWS 3309 spec, you will be safe. Mobil 3309 is fine to use, as is Comma ASW (3309). Both are the exact same fluid as the Toyota labelled T-IV, but cheaper. You can get both on e-bay or at an accessory shop. Dexron 3 used by some dealerships is NOT exactly the same. The latest Dexron VI spec is probably ok, but personally I would only use a bottle of atf that has JWS 3309 printed on it. Then I know for certain that it is safe for my Aisin -Warner gearbox.

  11. ... and without any grief at all . Toyots / Lexus . correct first time fit ... about £22 ... saves on broken finger nails, fingers and fuel revisiting Halfords etc ..... even tho' it's a great pleasure to drive the Ls at any time. :hocus-pokus: Malc

  14. Right, so made a reservation to see a local car, started planning a trip with the intention of buying one in Edinburgh. Finished Work Early, decided to take a close look at one at the dealer just down the road from where I work. Walked out after paying £1K deposit on an brand new IS300H executive edition in Mica Metalic Grey with black leather interior. Still not quite sure how that happened! They are hopeing that it will arrive by the 18th of June, can't wait :) Right, now time to tell the wife what I have just done! Thanks for all your feedback guys. Time to do some reading on owning a Hybrid!

  15. I have had 2x IS250 and both made the noise you described and as stated just the injectors. My GS300 didnt but then I guess its just because its a different engine.

  16. I'm 24 and about to become the proud owner of an IS300H in Atlantic blue. Considering I chose it over a Golf GTI, Audi A3, BMW 3/4 Series and others in my shortlist, it went from "something to look at just in case" to "this is the one for me" after a two hour test drive. Cannot wait! Just on another note, wanted to thank you guys on this forum for all the information, I used it a lot to aid me in my decision and it proved invaluable. Thought it best to sign up and mention it.

  17. You need to tell your son he needs to stop acting like a old man :P We waited till Jag released the production images of the XE before ordering the IS300H. The XE in my view doesn't look any more exciting than our 6 year old E90 BMW 3 series. ....infact if anything the E90 has a nice rear/boot proportion compared to the XE. I finally saw on in the flesh at the local shopping centre, I nearly walked straight past without noticing it, the design already looks out of date...If Jaguar is already doing £4K off the list price, sales cannot be going well, which is shame for Jag, but it's a missed opportunity for Jaguar to come up with something exciting.

  19. My choice to wait until next week as I am going to Devon for a few days. My wife would say no need for photos as it looks the same as the car we have, sorry, women do not understand the new car thing.

  20. Excellent info POD. I checked all the fuses and all are ok. how ever the boot won't open .i did try it lifted approx three inches and then closed. From reading the forum this one points to the tail gate struts. So my next course is to order some new struts unless somebody can guide me differently. Thank you for all the info so far. Regards
