  1. I've driven from the UK to Hannover a couple of times and found plenty of unrestricted Autobahn too, along with quite a few restricted sections. My general experience was that it was not as relaxing as other motorway driving because of the massive variation in speed from trucks and slow people sitting in the slow to Porsche and Audi RS owners doing 150mph + in the fast lane. Also the trucks can surprise you when pulling out into the middle lanes constantly and even driving in the fast lane at 110mph you will often get people approaching you very fast from behind. Cruising at 130mph plus seems to keep (most) people off your backside but then again it's not exactly relaxing or indeed safe with any form of traffic and you're using quite a bit of fuel! It's a good experience to try but personally I would rather just sit with cruise control on at 130kph on a near empty French toll road :)

  3. I'm 24 and about to become the proud owner of an IS300H in Atlantic blue. Considering I chose it over a Golf GTI, Audi A3, BMW 3/4 Series and others in my shortlist, it went from "something to look at just in case" to "this is the one for me" after a two hour test drive. Cannot wait! Just on another note, wanted to thank you guys on this forum for all the information, I used it a lot to aid me in my decision and it proved invaluable. Thought it best to sign up and mention it.

  4. They aren't coded to the car. The only issue is if someone has set the security code. It is user defined, not a set value. If it has been set, "SEC" will briefly show on the display when powered up. Best to check that before disconnecting in the donor car. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC

  5. Apparently Jag wanted to target the 3 series buying crowd. The problem is the XE looks even more boring than the 3 series, the rear end is just so dull, especially compared to the IS300H. Based on reputation you would have thought Lexus have designed the XE, not the other way round :) The XF and XJ are the best looking cars in their segments hence they attracted new buyers but the XE, sorry Jaguar, need to harder....From memory Jag also kept on boasting about 'industry leading use of aluminium' for weight saving, but according to Wiki final kerb weight of the car goes up to 1600kg, that's barely any lighter than the IS300H, which has the weight penalty of the hybrid battery pack. But than again, if your looking at £40K+ saloons, these days I only have eyes for one car :)

  6. ........... hmmmm ............. only 250 miles a week ............. . you'll feel a lot better doing 500 miles a week, the joy of such wonderful driving will soon make the fuel costs seem insignificant ............ unless you're going for one of these new fandangled " bluemotion " type cars that does 70 mpg and cost you maybe £25k or more to buy then just absorb the fuel costs and drive the best car you will have ever owned or wish to own. Malc do you get the feeling that we LOC guys here are mabye just a little passionate about our Ls400s !!

  7. The increased fuel costs will easily be offset and more by the reliability so saving on parts. If you can do all your own servicing and maintainance I wouldn't worry,if you want OEM parts you can always get them from Amayama.com which in general work out at around half UK Lexus dealer prices including the delivery and import duty/VAT.

  8. You will often find that comparison sites these days are used just to hook you and then get you on the telephone where the price invariably climbs. Tell them what your prepared to pay and if they say no go somewhere else. Mike

  9. Fog lights in normal driving conditions are illegal. Why you need to drive around like a mobile light house is beyond me. If you want some lights on turn your sidelights on, that way you wont endanger other road users and the police wont pull you and issue you with a fixed penalty notice. Mike.

  10. It's rare in my experience that corrosion actually causes major problems although of course it can happen' toyota/lexus placed absorbent material under terminals in an effort to absorb leaking electrolyte which is a powerful hydroxide which in turn causes corrosion as its nasty stuff. Although corrosion can be a contributor it is much more common to see failed cell modules. The Lexus Hybrids draw a fair bit more power from the battery packs than Toyota's do which accounts for the shorter warranty period. It is rather strange that warranties in both cases seem to run out more or less exactly at the time most packs are likely to start failing?

  11. My CD on my RX is a bog standard but it gives me these errors from time to time, had a few the last month or so when the car is cold, may be the discs are too cold or when the car warms quickly there may be condensation on the disc which will give a read error. The first few times I had a real problem ejecting the discs until I came upon a simple solution. Turn the unit off Then turn off the engine so that no lights are on on the dash Push down and hold the power button on the cd player, whilst holding it down, turn the key to power up the unit. Remove your finger from the power button, you may need to press again to switch it on. Error should now clear. This has never failed to clear the faults I have had ranging from unreadable discs to un-ejectable discs. Steve A great very many thnanks!!!!!!!!!! You are correct to say the discs were very difficult to eject. I had pressed the eject button many times to no avail, however the next time I turned on the engine they all immediately spewed out (I can't remember but I might well have tried pressing the power button when I turned on the engine button). Subsequently it would not let me reload any cds. You are also absolutely correct about how to clear the error. Your instructions above worked first time. The problem has reoccurred but has again been cleared by your instruction. Sossages is a happy bunny. Happy New Year to you!!!!!!!!! Glad to be of assistance Steve
