  1. Hey Chaps, So finally had some time to give the beast a good clean, and snap some photos with the newly painted bonnet. The vents are still carbon, and the bodyshop have lacquered them for added protection. The sharper eyed will also notice the rear has been partially de-badged. ;) Hope you like it. :) Next up is my Novel carbon fender ducts, service and recall work at Lexus Woodford, BC BR coilovers..... busy times! :) Cheers. Pete

  3. ........... hmmmm ............. only 250 miles a week ............. . you'll feel a lot better doing 500 miles a week, the joy of such wonderful driving will soon make the fuel costs seem insignificant ............ unless you're going for one of these new fandangled " bluemotion " type cars that does 70 mpg and cost you maybe £25k or more to buy then just absorb the fuel costs and drive the best car you will have ever owned or wish to own. Malc do you get the feeling that we LOC guys here are mabye just a little passionate about our Ls400s !!

  4. Don't buy it, you'll become addicted! Nothing else will be able to take its place....... If its in decent condition with good history, grab it while its still available, they're becoming harder to find and you'll be smitten.

  7. Had the same problem with mine over the last couple of months - drivers mirror was only dipping about 20% of what it used to and the passenger about 50%. So, this morning whilst parked on my drive and with the car switched on, I selected reverse and then pressed the adjustment button to maximum downwards position, then back up to maximum upwards position and then back again. I did this a few times with each mirror to run them through the full range of travel to 'exercise' the motors - the result - both mirrors now dipping normally, as they did when I bought the car. I can't say whether the motors were lazy or whether the mirrors just needed adjusting, if that's possible, but it's fixed them.... at least for the moment. Dan

  8. So on the reverse camera, I guess you don't get the different parking options either, ie parallel or perpendicular parking and the different lines on each. Is your Galaxy Mini up to date with the latest Android. Updates? Also, check in the phonebook or people options where the contacts are being stored. Are they all from your Google account, or from the phone, SIM, or elsewhere. Are all the options enabled in the phonebook options on the phone, so all the contacts displayed? When you go to the car and check the contacts options, how many does it show it has transferred? Mine is showing 2002 of 2500. I still get random contacts which appear in the phone and not in the car. This is with various Android phones and I can't determine why. I've also found if you have a contact with more than 4 listed numbers, the car duplicates the contact name and spreads the numbers over both.

  9. Hi everybody, as a retired engineer I have done lot of research into this over the last week as it seems to be very difficult to purchase atf fluid for the ls430 at a reasonable price. I have examined the specifications for Toyota type T-1V, Mobil 3309, and most importantly Mannol Jas 315 type 1A which is badged as JWS 3309. All the specifications are the same, the only difference being in the price which as the Mannol JWS 3309 is very cheap compared to the other two. I have also contacted Lexus and Toyota and the answers they have given me would suggest that there is no reason why this can not be used in their vehicles, the only proviso is that if used on a warranty vehicle it would void the warranty. Saying that, drivers with vehicles under warranty should not have to top up their vehicles anyway if they did their would be a serious problem with that vehicle and it would have to go back to the supplier. I have also contacted Mannol and they assure me that their transmission fluid can be used in all Toyota and Lexus models. The warranty issue is slightly irrelevant for the reason already stated, the same thing applies to also anything you purchase that carries a warranty. Aisin Warner also state that the Mannol fluid can be used in their gearboxes. There appears to be quite a lot of scaremongering on this issue and owners of Lexus vehicles need to make their own decision on what type/make of fluid they wish to use. If you read this thank you for your time.

  10. I bought some thick strimmer line, 4mm I think it is. If you do it gently you can go all the way through.

  11. There are four drain holes. The rears tend to get blocked up at the exit point on the floor of the vehicle.

  12. I'd request this is looked at under warranty, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be covered.

  13. ............. I'd say it's in pretty good nic tbh ......... no flaking teeth and no sign of deterioration really ....... on mileage it would do 100,000+ miles but on years maybe it's 5yrs over the usual limit. When the first Ls400 was introduced there was no time limit nor mileage criteria for changing the cambelt ............ this confused everybody BUT when the original belt was made of Kevlar ( effectively ) it would probably be just about indestructible ................ they used kevlar to build bomb proof containers etc. I recently tried to ascertain from Lexus the construction quality of new replacement Lexus cambelts and was given the runaround and no answer ! I've only ever once read of a cambelt ( USA Forum ) on a Ls400 snapping, under test conditions and at 150k miles continuous running I think it might have been. But the service schedule says 10 yrs / 100k miles so best be safe and do it eh !! Hope your journey thru' cambelt change land continues with great success and not too many frustrations on the way Malc

  15. ... seems to be rather too much worrying here guys .... our cars are 20 years old and the rust problem is just simply tiny tiny tiny .... any other car would have gone to the knackers yard by now with the rust mouse prevalent and taken over Malc

  16. "but very cheap in the USA so if you have someone coming over from there" But pack it well! Imagine your clothes with a layer of.......if leakage occurs! Reminds me of a story of a Citroen SM V6 'short' engine being carried back from USA, as HAND luggage! (Pre-security days.......sigh!)
