  1. O2 sensor replacement Check VSC / traction / warning and engine lights came on recently. It started as an intermittent fault, they would light up on the way to work and go off on way home - it happened for 3 days until the lights came on permanently. I had no choice to drive it - I bought an ODBII reader and it reported back on Bank 1 Sensor 1 failure. I ordered two new sensors - Denso 234-9051 from the USA and they came this morning I am replacing both sensor 1's (Bank 1 and 2) Drivers and Passenger side as it makes sense as they have been in the car for the same length of time and while I am doing one I will do the other. Bank 1, Sensor 1 is on the drivers side / Bank 1, Sensor 1 is on the passenger side. Both are accessible from the engine bay. I replaced Bank 1, Sensor 1 tonight as this was the one reporting a failure. It took 15 mins (if that). Firstly I removed the drivers side engine cover Next, to get to the sensor easier, loosen and remove the fuse box shown in the picture below using a 10mm socket Do not remove from the car - just loosen - there is one 10mm bolt and one 10mm nut to take out - lift the fuse box out of the way as per the picture below You can now see the sensor and its also easier to remove. To remove, I used a 22mm 7/8 socket - open ended sensor socket - place this (or whatever you are using) over the sensor nut and loosen only - you may need some WD40 and a SMALL tap on the socket from a hammer to encourage it to move at first - don't take it off at this point First remove the sensor wire socket from the cars connecting plug - you will see from the new sensor you would have bought before doing this that there is a small securing lug on one side of the plug. Picture below is of the sensor plug still attached to the cars socket - a bit obscured To remove this you need to press down on a tab to the rear of the plug on the car which can be found on the side of the plug facing the bulkhead. While pressing on the tab gently pull the wire and the plug will come out of the socket. In taking the fuse box out of the way there is enough room to get both your hands into the sensor area. Once this is off I secured the wire with a bit of tape to an upper hose so I would not lose it into the depths of the car if I dropped it when the socket come off - I think it would drop through the bottom of the car but just in case it didn't I secured the wire. Next, remove the sensor itself. Doing it this way it will not twist the wire up as there are quite a few turns required to remove the sensor. With the sensor removed - (dead one shown below) Replace with the new one. Place the anti sieze compound on the threads of the new one before inserting it into its location. Put the sensor in first and then once secured fully, plug it into the cars socket. Replace the fuse box and engine cover. Job Done - re-connect the battery and you should have no more nasty lights on the dash. Reset the windows once you are happy with the job. I checked the error had gone by re-scanning the car with the ODB reader again. Noticeable differences. There are obviously a few - quieter running / revs are way down / too early to report on fuel consumption / car is now not lumpy when idling. Next job would be to do Bank 2, Sensor 1 - that's a weekend job as its getting a bit dark now. Pictures below of before and after on engine report Before After

  2. Hi Parrot I bought my RX300 with a seized rear wiper. I told the vendor and he arranged to get a new wiper motor under the 3 months guarantee. After waiting a while I fixed it by removing the wiper as you have and removed the gears from the wiper gearbox. I then grasped the output drive shaft away from the end with Mole Grips and rotated it back and forth. It eventually moved and then I introduced oil then kept it moving until it was a smooth movement. This was in October 2014 and it is still working. I never got my new wiper under guarantee. I was quoted £50 from an online breaker for a working one but MAKE SURE you get the correct unit i.e quote the serial/part number to the breaker over the phone/via email. Best Wishes Murphybear

  4. I may have posted this before but here goes. Every year after the winter I remove the black plastic arch trims and them clean them and the exposed arch, smear a good coat of grease on the trim and refit it. I also ensure all the mud build up on the lip of the arch is removed. Never had a sign of rust.

  5. Just to confirm, the Executive Limited Edition was indeed the run out model before the RX450h was launched. You will only find them on late 58 and 09 plates. It was a fully specced car, which matched the SE-L specs with the exception of the ICE system. It does not have parking sensors, but it does have a rear camera linked to the satnav screen. It does have memory seats, sunroof, electric tailgate, illuminated door sills, etc... and also the ML audio system. It also has an additional badge that reads "EXECUTIVE LIMITED EDITION" on the tailgate, under the 400h badge. (I know, I've got one!)

  8. They originally had it up for £33k! Dropped £4k over the last 6 months and still not sold, looks ok though. Just think it was/is overpriced.

  9. Mike, I had a noise/squeak coming from the rear when driving which was driving me nuts, I too thought it was the shelf (which it wasn't). I finally tracked it to the rear seat armrest, when in the up position it was creaking as it rubbed against the adjoining seats, I simply lowered the armrest and no more squeaking! This may or maynot be your problem but as you did so much work on the lurching gearbox I thought I at least had to try and help. Regards Roger.

  10. Dear all I'd thought I would update this thread a little as it was started by me a long time ago and seems to have been viewed with some interest. My RX 300 SEL is now 10 months old and has covered 7000 miles. It will be going back to the dealer for its first service shortly. During this time the car has started to bed in well. A few rattles and creaks have come and gone and now there are only really two cabin noises that I intend to have looked at next service. One is a small rattle from the dash in the vicinity of the glove box when the cabin temp is below approx 15 C and the other is more of an intermittant creaking from the tailgate, after it is closed. Its definatly the tailgate as the noise can appear with or without the rear parcel shelf cover thingy fitted. I believe Lexus are aware of the dash rattle and a TSB is in effect to rectify it. Other than these minor points the rest of the cabin is faultless and quiet. I have a few stone chips on the front of the bonnet and the car seems to collect them in this area quite easily. My dealer is aware of this and was not slow in coming forward to have the problem addresssed and looked at as a possible warranty issue, but this will no doubt be raised at its first service soon. I am a little reluctant to have the bonnet respayed due to possible colour match differences, but I also don't want the bonnet of my car carrying too many stone chips. The rest of the vehicles paint is excellent, maybe I've just been unlucky with the leading edge of the bonnett. I had an issue with an intermittant rough gear change when accelerating away from slow speed. Basically the car seemed to snatch from 1st into 2nd gear causing a slight lurching motion. A fix from Lexus was to disconnect the battery for a short period to reset the learning capabilities of the gearbox. There is quite a lengthy thread on this subject so I will not cover it here suffice to say that the car seems a lot smoother since this was done, yet it is possible under the right conditions to force the car to lurch when accelerating from slow speed if driven in an (in)appropriate manor. I know this gearchange issue has been quite an imotive subject on this forum, it certainly concerned me for a while, yet in general I find the cars transmission to be silky smooth and certainly not a cause for concern for prospective purchasers as some threads i have read may have you believe. I have found a small area of surface corrosion around the base of the rear offside gas strut. I don't know if anyone else has got this? I appreciate this is well inside the wheel arch behind the wheel but what anoys me is that is it just visable above the 12 O clock position above the tyre when viewed from the side. I have not told my dealer of this yet, I'll wait until the next service. All of the above only really highlights the small problems that I have noticed with the car in the last 10 months. It does not say what a pleasure this car is to own and drive, that is something that can only be experienced for yourself. I suspect that most of the people that read this may be thinking to purchase one of these vehicles. Since new I have not returned this car to the dealer once in nearly a year other than to have a rear brake light switch replaced following a recall notice,(See 'great service' thread), yet the car has been 100% reliable. The above really is the worst I can find in this vehicle and I am confident that even these small issues will be resolved at its first annual service. I will update this thread as time goes on and my experience with the car and the servicing continues, but for now I'm very pleased. RxMike. :D
