  1. Maybe they are not allowed access. Toyota/Lexus both use techstream for diagnostics so the equipment is the same. It could be that their software doesn't let them proceed if it detects that a Lexus Vehicle has been connected instead of a Toyota one. :iraqi-info-minister:

  5. The diagnostic software has a key to enable Lexus vehicles. It is the same with the parts database. Without it they are somewhat restricted. However I suspect the answer was more related to policy/T&Cs from Toyota GB etc. rather than what is possible technically.

  6. That's bull....... Excuse my language , when I had my GS450h I put it into my Toyota dealer to read on their computer due to a fault no problems with gaining access, Also I was advised by the Lexus dealer I bought my LS600HL off to put car into nearest Toyota dealer to get a spare key programmed as my nearest Lexus dealer is 185mls away, Warranty work NO servicing and fault diagnosing YES

  7. Thanks. Some good and fair points. That said if all those things happen to you would be unlucky! Usually the bad stories prevail often because the majority are undramatic. People rarely mention the Olympic which sailed through the Great War sinking a submarine and was scrapped in the 1930's because the Titanic's story was more interesting and negative. There are a lot of LS s which sail on undramatically. I have never had a car that I am so certain would go another 100k so readily if, big if, you treat it for what it is - a high quality executive express. Hence the running costs are no less than they were for the bloke who paid £50k - indeed more. Which from what you say is how you are investing in your own. Even if all the worst case events (other than transmission) happen to a single car (very unlucky) then when your wallet had taken the strain you'd still have a fantastic car for a lot less than a 5 year old Honda Jazz . The "Mk 4" in particular I would say marries the longevity with drivability - it is cleaner away and so much better on the brakes than my Mk 1 was. Hope yours now behaves! 8. Keep it on, it prevents any parts from being damaged underneath. Also living in the UK they salt the roads, that cover will prevent any parts from underneath from rusting too.

  9. I'm assuming you are speaking from experience? The LS400 starter is very time consuming to replace, and the MK1 is apparently the worst of the lot.

  10. The under-tray contributes to the overall aerodynamics of the car.....and therefore the mpg. The original LS had an incredibly low drag co-efficient - 0.36, if my memory serves. If you still have the original cd, there is mention of it on there.

  11. I still have mine on ( 2nd one as other got destroyed) reason being it keeps the underside clean (everything under it is still painted black and shiney. Also helps prevent objects in the road being flung up inside the engine bay.

  12. there is no need to remove tray to change oil and filter,iv done mine twice, there is a screw or bolt to be removed on the flap and a flap hinges towards front of car,its not that apparent on a quick look underneath

  13. Well it depends doesn't it. I have an Exec but had the Premier for the weekend before I got it. Firstly the money, £168 is nothing for a car if that includes all your maintenance etc. which I assume it will seeing as it is a company car. If you can afford it (especially if you were paying something like that before) then I would go for it. For me the price difference was just too much between the two but if I could have afforded it I would have. As far as the actual equipment goes you are getting a lot more for your money. The premium nav comes with better traffic, online connectivity (although I question the real value of that other than traffic), the reversing camera and parking assist which I found was bloody good on the CT I had previously, better integration than the exec, voice control across many of the car functions like picking your track on your iPhone, having your texts read out to you, having the nav show on the smaller instrument display, splitting the main screen to show different functions and so on. Factor in all the additional safety equipment (which should be standard nowadays) especially with the blind spot for the motorways etc. and I think it is good value. You are spending a long time in the car and you want to be happy there. The seats are more adjustable and ventilated as well as having the easy entry system although make sure you don't have an adult behind you when you undo the seatbelt! Unlike DJP I listen to Spotify all the time and I thought the ML sound system was fantastic - it even made the Frozen soundtrack sound good! I can imagine some not liking the way it splits your music across the various channels but I would have it in an instant. Having said that - the standard sound system is actually pretty decent and just as good as the upgraded sound pack that was in the CT although it can't do surround sound of course. I would go to the dealer and have a listen. If comfort is your main priority though what about the new advance trim. Effectively the Exec with the heated/vented seats and parking camera? Would be a good compromise as it still has all you need and will have the great ride you get on the 17s. Apart from looks, the Premier doesn't gain anything from the bigger wheels and wider tyres.. I wouldn't put you off the Exec by the way. It is a great car and the nav is simple enough to use as well as the rest of the bits with the rotary dial rather than the remote touch. It is just a bit more simple from a tech perspective. I don't know if any of that helps but it will be interesting to hear what you go for!

  14. That's a decent price for all that. As you highlighted, it's a full days work. Personally, with paint in that before condition I'd have done a two step correction, with a heavy compound / some wet & dry work to get the deeper damage out prior to a polish. Your before photos are all good, but your after ones should really be taken in a similar light - panels can be quite reflective even when in poor condition, and ambient light hides the swirls and holograms which you can so clearly see in the before photos. Seeing before photos like that makes me want to reach for my polisher and fix them up :)
