  1. http://www.motoringresearch.com/car-reviews/long-term-tests/lexus-300h-2015-long-term-review-0330962432 Its probably the long term approach which has helped this particular reviewer see the light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. He goes on to mention the fantastic economy, the brilliant interior (which he thinks is better than even the Jaguar XE) and how he has warmed up to the CVT which he rates above Merc's 7 speed auto :)

  2. Hi everyone, hope you are all enjoying the sun and going out for a drive with the sunroof open :-) lovely day for it don't you think? After 4 months off road, my LS is now back and just as good as ever after Japex fitted new rear shocks and springs, anti squeal brake shim set, sorted out an ABS problem and then passed the MOT. A big thank you to Stuart and his team/family who do an exemplary job of looking after my '400 and I am always totally amazed by the level of knowledge, attention to detail and care that Stuart demonstrates to his customers. If any of you need someone to look after your LS and don't mind a wee drive, then go to Japex. There is also a nice deli/cafe there called 'Dalling and Co' on the high street with seating outside and home made cakes for you to enjoy - perfect for weather like this.... Takes me just under two hours to get to Kings Langley at a gentle cruising pace and do you know what? I'd almost forgotten what it is like to drive a car that is so blissfully serene - beats the Merc any day of the week :-) ENJOY

  4. I would put my money on it being the USA parts base that keeps our LS's going when Lexus give up. Seems like so many over there, that afte-market would be going strong for a long time. Electronics should not be an issue so long as it is not a specialist Integrated Circuit that goes pop. Still not looking forward to the days when it just become a bit of a faff to look after these wonderful cars.

  5. Jeremy, I totally agree with your comments regarding Japex. I've used them several times and they are outstanding. They are only a small outfit but are very knowledgeable, very friendly, very thorough, (everything's explained and old parts returned), and they don't rip you off. Best garage I've ever used. I would recommend them to anyone with a Japanese car.

  6. I didn't know it was him. I just got a txt saying I will give you full asking price. Regards Adam I sold it at a very reasonable price so I had endless texts for it but £1500 takes the car he put money straight in my bank and someone from near me in North Wales picked it up. I was shocked to see it back on eBay being sold by him, as usual he never mentioned things that need doing to it as I stated in my listing. Anyway glad it's gone to a new loc member. I'll be searching for new lex soon don't know what to go for yet. Phil

  7. I rang a local american parts shop for a wheel bearing for my 1955 cadillac coupe de ville and I got... "front or rear?" "rear" I said, yeah they're on the shelf. 1 hour later and it was on the car.

  8. Actually the Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell car is being released September 2015 in the UK and Germany :) Definitely going to test drive that lol! But the LS Hydrogen fuel cell car is coming in 2017 so we'll see how that is!

  11. Very, very good analysis Gang - my 'dailies' are always company vehicles - currently there is no way that a Tesla would financially work for me (and I am 'locked-in' to the IH300H for another 30 months) - operationally, yes a Tesla would work as I travel mainly within the M25. The 'real' game changer will be when Tesla offer their 'promised' £30K car - I can see many, many company car users changing to this. I still have concerns about no's of Tesla's Supercharger stations - can't see them being anything like the size of Tesla's depicted images - the logistics of specific Supercharger stations will be difficult (in terms of no's of charging bays per station) - currently there is one in Bluewater, Canning Town, Heathrow, Brent Cross and Canary Wharf (Portland Square is closed due to the recent hotel fire) I have just noticed that there is now one at Northampton (id that new?) one at Birmingham, Barnsley and Leeds - the Edinburgh one is a 'stretch) There are none yet on the South Coast, East Anglia and West Wales. Perhaps I'm being overly sceptical about this - looking at the number of Supercharger stations in central Europe!

  12. An older LS can still draw admirers. When I turned up at work the first time in my mk4, it caused some nice reactions and comments from everyone. One lady insisted on sitting in the car to have closer look at a Lexus. She loved it.

  13. Living in west London it's not really a case of what music I like to drive to, its more of a case of which music do I like to sit in traffic to. I usually find a bit of Bobby Womack or elbow manage to keep me from going insane around town. when I do reach the insane speeds of 30 or sometimes 40 mph I find that mark levinson and gun and roses seem to compliment each other quite nicely. Ps also partial to a bit of oasis.

  15. The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. All others followed and copied after them. I saw Zal Cleminson last year and sadly he has given up playing all together. I'm with you on all this manufactured TV rubbish which is rammed down our kids throats today. Mike.

  17. Had mine 4 wheel tracked at Lexus last year, didn't make much difference I'm afraid. I'd have it done again at a specialist (tracking went well out after 8 thousand miles and scrubbed the fronts) if I could be certain it would cure it "cos it's a bit expensive if it doesn't do the trick.

  19. The door seals were getting a bit flat and therefore letting in a lot of wind noise, priced up new ones (98 gs300) and the price was astronomical. While looking at old ones noticed they are just like hollow tubes, so why not pack them with something??? After numerous tests found that the pvc washer tube works best (8mm o/d). I cut a little hole in bottom of original seaj near sill and using baby oil as a lubricant (less likely to degrade rubber) feed tube through original seal, When you reach end just cut off pipe and seal hole with rubber glue. Job done, no more wind or road noise through seals and only cost £25 for all doors and boot. Best bit as well is you can do it all sat down LOL.

  20. Hi Steve. First can I say that I'm glad you and your mum weren't hurt in your accident. The 'double glazing' is a double layer of glass, with a lamination inbetween. It's standard. Even the basic version of the 460 has it. Unless you're looking for it you'd not notice. Tax and benefit-in-kind income tax on the 600 has been a bit less than on the 460, but from next year, with reducing levels in all the bands, they end up at the same top rate. Also, the congestion charge relief now only applies to cars with a very low co2 figure - and not to the 600. Up to 62mph the 460 is quicker than the 600. The 600 may be quicker up to 100, but I don't normally drive at that speed. And also, it's only quicker for a short time - the battery quickly drains if you try to push things. The batteries make the car 200kg bulkier, and fill half the already rather small boot, and result in the car needing 102 rated tyres which cost considerably more than the already expensive 460 98 rated ones. Earlier 600s lack LKA. Along with radar cruise control, the gentle part of LKA, which helps you steer, is one of the 460's best tricks - seriously increasing my endurance as a driver. The benefit is lower mpg driving around town (though not on the motorway). Last time I checked though, and did some sums, it would take 10 years of normal driving to break even. You should do that calculation for yourself before plunging - you might be surprised at how little you'd save per year in fuel. You didn't mention the environment. Certainly, less carbon dioxide is produced in running around, but making the batteries produces so much co2 that it takes about 8 years to balance this out. And ten years is about how long these batteries are expected to last - so suddenly it will be time for a fresh set. I'd recommend a 460 SE-L to you. I just think it's very sad that Lexus have stopped importing them to this country. The 600 is far too expensive for what it is, and the price of the 460, before they stopped selling it, was also already far too high. : o ) Hi.. That was a realy good post! I'm thinking about buying a 460 they seem excellent value at the moment. What are they like to live with day to day. Does paying £450 'ish' road tax upset you? Paying any amount of road tax upsets me for driving into potholes!
