  1. classic! lol.....they've actually gone out of their way to look stupid - they could have just left at £1 per mile delivery as maths wasn't their best subject at school.

  2. I agree the grill is hideous and spoils an otherwise great looking car Meh you'll get over it - everybody does lol - the initial reaction will be fun though. Everytime I brought a Lexus to a dinner party, its always about how great it looks - I doubt that'll change. I took an RR Sport for a test drive once. Happened to be the same day I went to a dinner party, my friends didnt even give it a second look. In fact - I was asked where my Lexus was to which I replied "im just test driving the RR Sport for the weekend". It all ended with "you're seriously not going to buy that are you?". Shows what non car folk think of RR and also what they think about Lexus Call me a snob but....I would NEVER go to a dinner party in a Reliant Robin.... !! Dan :)

  3. Well this years MOT has been a bit of an expensive saga. Had a service just before MOT and they reckoned that it would fail on rear upper arms, and front tie rods. Well it did not fail on that, but on a broken rear coil spring (no wonder it felt so awful these past few weeks). So we went for having it all done, and then when the full alignment was being done, a bolt on a rear lower suspension arm went. So all in all been with the car for a week (seems to be delays on getting parts). So now just a shade over £2K lighter on the old bank balance. BUT - the old girl drives like a dream, so hopefully a decade or more of motoring without too much to worry about (fingers crossed) The chaps at Gas & Go in Swindon did a good job - as ever. Now just need to save up a bit and get the vandalised paintwork sorted, but that will have to wait another couple of months.

  4. Phone Lexus up earlier and they have finally solved the heated seat problem I had.... The thermostat for the heated seat was temperamental so now getting replaced... Intially Seat was heating up fine when they had it (funny as I used car more frequently than they have tested it and it never heated up fine from when problem started) Anyway they went to check it again yesterday and thermostat was cutting off too soon so problem found and now solved After seeing the leather seat replacement they have finally agreed it shouldn't be like that so seat being given to a vehicle upholsterer to fit by steaming and specialist ironing (yes sounds weird ironing leather) but that's how it's done Seemingly the reason for state of new leather is the way it's packed and stored ie folded up multiple times and shoved into a plastic bag, hence misshaped leather and bad figment Anyhow that's it getting done and should get car back early next week due to Easter Monday etc etc So won't need to slum it in a is300h for much longer 😆 For those that haven't read my other posts the heater element is attached to leather and comes as a one piece item in the 600s and more than likely 460s hence new seat leather as well (even tho final diagnoses was a thermostat under seat was problem and not the element my original leather/heat element had been disposed off so new seat element/leather fitted )

  5. Malc, Coming up to 153,000 miles. I drive it every day. I only paid £2300 for this one 3 years ago, so in reality I think I am quids in compared to other cars I have had. I still tell everyone this is the cheapest car I have ever run, and it's not even LPG. Must say that when I was in garage and having good look underneath it was in amazing nick (apart from that darned bolt).

  6. I think replace rather than diagnose has been with us for a while in the motor trade and not just with upmarket dealerships. I assume all this fitting the leather and the element together is supposed to either make it better at warming the old backside, or cheaper to manufacture. Went in some BMW 6 series a few years back, and nearly had a toasted ar*e after one minute. I think we are all getting soft, who ever heard of a Rover P80 with heated seats!!

  9. I have noticed over the years NOT just with Lexus but other big dealerships as well that rather than try and diagnose the original problem they just replace the item staring them in the face.... My 1st ever Lexus which was a mk2 LS 12yrs ago had the blinky dash and Lexus wouldn't repair it but replace it at a cost of near 2k... I did a bit of research myself and went to local maplin electronic store and bought 3 capacitors at a huge expense of 96pence 😆😆😆😆 2hrs of my time and sorted a small saving of £1999.04.. Again with this problem I did a bit of research and came to conclusion it was a thermostat relay and mentioned this prior to them getting my car to look at again and guess what YES. A bit of research diagnosed the fault.... Maybe I should work with n their tech department and could save customers loads of money.... Anyway at moment I'm happy hopefully be in same mood when it's back.... Unlike last time 😆😆

  10. Makes me laugh, at the bottom of the add it states :- "THIS VEHICLE CAN BE DELIVERED ANYWHERE IN THE UK FOR £1. A MILE. SO IF YOU LIVE 100 MILES AWAY, DELIVERY WILL BE £140."

  11. Gang: "Unexpected Consequences" is a good title for what has got to be one of the most convoluted, albeit interesting, pieces of thought in automotive history. I hesitate to claim that I understand your drift but, unless I am completely off the track, you are saying that ownership of a Lexus 300h has provided you with the motivation to replace a BMW335i with a Nissan Leaf (via an economic comparison with a SKY subscription) to which you would have preferred a Tesla which is a car you hope Lexus will emulate and improve upon. No doubt there is some commercial and technical logic here but my first reaction was to commiserate with car marketing people wherever they and whoever they may be since they must sometimes despair of getting a simple buy-my-car message across to their prospective customers!

  12. I usually buy mine online and get them fitted at home, which is what I was about to do when Lexus said one of my tyres were a bit low on thread and they quoted me £98.00 for a front tyre fully fitted. Anyway, just before the cars due to get serviced yesterday I got an email from Lexus saying they price matched tyre retailers with a ten mile radius, so I found the tyre they mentioned (dunlop sportmaxx rt) for £80.00 ff (not a bad tyre judging from the reviews I read). On the phone there was an attempt to fob me off, so basically after a bit of a performance to make it look like they are losing loads of money and doing me a massive favour....and when we were face to face, they price matched it for £80. Actually, the whole service experience was pretty good, with me in complete content customer mode when I eventually got my keys back. Shame they don't do Rx tyres for the same price ... they would have quite a queue ... They'll usually price match - my dealer did tell me they would but I wasnt keen on the tyres they had. The Dunlop SP Sport 270 which were standard fit are not being sold in the UK now so once they go you have to choose between Bridgestone Dueler HP or Dunlop SP Sport Maxx or a budget brand. Personally, I didn't want to try tyres which were rated noisier than the factory fit Dunlop's (which in all honesty I havent had any trouble with) so I decided to get my own :)

  13. Hi Marok, I borrowed a ramp for a day and drained the ATF out of the gearbox and removed the Hybrid pump (four bolts) and wiring loom to the pump controller. I removed the pump impeller housing screws (3 screws) and found that the shaft was seized and wouldn't budge. So I took the motor housing off (another 3 screws) and found that the front bearing was seized, preventing the motor shaft from turning. It is a very clever and simple well engineered design, the pump and motor are in excellent condition, it was just the bearing that had failed. I took the bearing to a bearing supplier and they had one in stock for £7. They said this is a common size bearing readily available. I also bought the rear shaft bearing at the same time and re-assembled it, filled the gearbox up with new ATF, cleared the P2797 code and the car has now run perfect for the last 3 months, without problems. Someone else on this forum read my post and did the same on his LS600h and he now has a working pump again too. He also has two friends with the same problem and I believe they have repaired theirs too. A relatively simple and cheap repair, saving thousands of pounds. Lexus quote 9 hours to replace the pump. I took 7 hours, including investigating the problem and driving to the bearing shop. Just shows, they even charge you too many hours for a job that should take them no more than 4 or 5 hours to do when replacing a new pump. This is the fault that every GS450h and LS600h owner dreads. EVERYONE SPREAD THE WORD THAT THIS IS AN EASY FIX AND DON'T GO TO A LEXUS DEALER WITH THIS PROBLEM AS YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF !!! Otherwise, you will be throwing away a perfectly good pump for the sake of a cheap bearing. I bought £50 worth of genuine ATF, 2x bearings at £14 and a ramp charge of £100. If a garage was to do this for you, it should cost around £500 parts and labour. Giles.

  14. It may be worth mentioning the fact that Lexus rear calipers have a long history of seizing.
