  1. I had also compared Guy with Fred Dibnah. Sadly, people like Fred and Guy are few and far between. Fred was clever with his hands but was also intelligent and a a gifted artist, whose drawings were incredibly detailed. Both Guy and Fred had no pretensions whatsoever. What you see is what you get. Having worked in the public sector and tolerated all sorts of bullsh*t, with frequent, pointless meetings and inept managers spouting endless corporate speak (e.g. "robust procedures and "park it" ), to hide their inadequacies, people like Guy and Fred are very refreshing.

  2. I'd forgotten how irritating Quentin Wilson is. I'm not a fan of his presentation style, a bit too Alan Partridge. It's like watching a caricature of a TV presenter

  3. So..... here is the new 2016 RX. Firstly - Id just like to confirm that I have spoken to my source at Lexus - these are renderings as you can probably tell but according to my source shows 95% of the finished car. The one showed above would be the Luxury/Premier model. My source has seen pictures of the RX F-sport but there are non floating around just yet and I haven't been able to get hold of them. My source says there are a few discrepancies between the actual car and the above renderings which I have touched on below: 1) The proportions are slightly wrong. He mentioned the rear glass is slightly more angled and gives a sleeker look instead of the minivan look shown here and the rendering doesn't show the beefed up rear fender very well. 2) The rear windscreen wiper is in fact hidden, just as the current RX. As can be seen in the renderings, the rear wiper is in plain site 3) The wheels are not right. The render has just used current Advance spec wheels and pumped them up to 20". There will be 20" wheels available, just not that design. 4) He cant remember whether the wheel arches were plastic like the NX or colour coded. Guess we'll find out - hopefully at Geneva 5) He also can't remember if the fog lights had chrome around them but he thinks not as he cant remember noticing them too much 6) Lights are slightly different Oh and remember my last post on the 2016 RX where I said it had a distinctive C pillar? Well its a floating roof :). Ive been told that the luxury/premier models are not the most satisfying to look at. The F-Sport however is very aggressive :) Definitely looks better in the flesh ey?

  4. I looked at my first RX 300 SE today for my wife as we need something bigger than her Yaris for the grandkids. It looked great in the ad - 2004, 80k miles and £6500. However, it had a rusty N/S rear passenger door bottom, badly corroded rear wheel arch on N/S, looked pretty scabby underneath, plus had a limited service history which stopped in 2010. No cam belt change plus trans fluid was black/brown. As these cars are thin on the ground up here I may have to travel a bit further than 50 miles to find one, but to be honest was a bit put off by rust issues. My LS 400 isn't like this at all, so are they all like that? Pete

  5. Hi Pete. Congratulations on your purchase I'm sure you will enjoy the Rx experience...I certainly do. What I will say is that as good as the Rx is the build quality is nowhere near that of my mkIII Ls 400 and this was recently confirmed when both cars were on the ramp at my local garage . The mechanic couldn't believe that a 20 year old car which is used daily could be so clean and rust free whereas the 2006 Rx in comparison is showing much more in the way of corrosion

  6. It's due to compromises in the steering geometry. Do a google search on things like Ackerman steering geometry - eg see this: http://www.motor.org.uk/documentlibrary/Sep%2009/TT%20_%20Sept%2009.pdf Lexus pushes the limits of what is achievable with the geometry - they have to build in things like steering feel, weight, tyre wear etc. as well as getting the car round the corner. It's nothing to worry about, unless you want to drive round very tight circles at speed! Just take it easy on full lock.

  8. when you say too sharp do you mean full lock? On full lock, particularly in reverse, one tyre can drag slightly due to amount of steering lock (rear wheel drive). Check this thread out. My car does as is described in here: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/64419-steering-noise/

  9. Ah, for the simple days of early cars where you stuck a stick into the tank!

  10. Great character is Guy Martin, and he is into cars, infact a very retro fast one ...............http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2790676/fastest-car-britain-grey-1967-volvo-daredevil-s-supercharged-family-estate-car-hit-205mph-thanks-788-horsepower-engine.html B) B) B) Paul, Good to know that Guy is an all round decent car nut. He is like an updated version of Fred Dibnah. A no nonsense bloke who likes things mechanical and total lack of bulls**t. I wonder if Fred could have got one of his traction engines to go over 200mph

  11. Jon, In my experience a sunroof will; *lower the amount of internal headroon, and *go wrong. Air conditioning is superior and does not allow your head or skin to be burnt. As for not wanting to travel a distance to view the car you might want...........................................................................................you should be prepared to go to the ends of the earth !! Regards John Thanks, Melchester Man! I would happily travel to Dublin for Bilmac's car and was ready to give up a few hours to get 30 seconds in an LS430's drivers seat first just to make sure I am not wasting anyone's time. The nearest one I can find is Lichfield, and it's by appointment, not a showroom. I don't want to mess someone about feigning interest in their car if I am not going to buy it. And while I agree and could happily live without a sunroof, that doesn't really seem like an option when you shop for an LS430 :( C'mon LS430 owners in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Monmouthshire, Bristol, Newport etc. - let's have a car on the market!

  13. Well done, hope you enjoy it. You've certainly avoided my biggest concern with the 430, the air suspension.
