  1. I find a get a more accurate average mpg figure if i wait for the car to warm up, then zero the trip and drive as normal, if i just let it calculate from start up i get about 15 mpg average, does anyone else follow this or do i have an issue with my 400

  2. Best forum for this is probably a local one. PM me here if you don't have any luck and I'll see if my friend in Milton Keynes can help you out, or I'm happy to help if you can bear the drive down. The cost to repair that to a good standard would be £150-200, but make sure you get the repairer to include orange peel removal in the quote else it'll be obvious where it's been repaired.

  3. Tyre wear is hardly an issue on a CT200h. Im sure you could easily do 40k miles on a set. I have an RX450h with 3mm left and Im on 26k miles atm. The CT200h doesnt have as much weight as an RX so you could get high miles out of a set no problem. The CVT transmission is fine. Its super slick, you wont even notice any shifting, simply because there is no shifting. Its the most refined out of all the cars you've mentioned and with the 2014 facelift, its stiffer and the advance model which I had for a loaner feels like its on rails so im sure an F Sport would enhance that further. If its for your wife and she's doing mainly town/city driving, you should be seeing 50mpg + too and no road tax which is a bonus. Another thing to mention is that bar the Mazda, the others dont even come close to the level of specification that the CT200h has. You're going to be putting a lot of money into options on the A3 and BMW 1 series which looks awful IMO anyway.

  4. Hello Mark, I drive a 2006 Lexus is220d and for the past 6 years-ish in my ownership it has been superb. The basics come to this my friend, Do you want a decently efficient diesel, relatively cheap to run and looks good but is pretty much the same as everyone elses, Or do you want a beautifully designed, quiet, motorway mile muncher which is a joy to be in? The IS220D in my opinion is not really designed to be involved driving, to let the back slide just a little as you take a fast corner trying to beat your home commute time. It is designed to wade gently through miles of motorway as you sink into the luscious seats, 6th gear, tap cruise control and settle down for the journey. It is an excellent car for what it was designed to do and it does it well. Just as any other, it occasionally has some problems but no more than any other car. Think of it like an old man, its all about taking it easy, enjoying the ride, no hurry to get anywhere, if you want the opposite ze germans churn out more than enough of generic m sport, amg replica s line tin cans to choose from :). Good luck

  5. Indeed, correct behaviour for a Toyota engine - the ECU is programmed this way. The thinking is that emissions are reduced by getting the engine up to speed by fast idling rather than running at a normal idle speed with a rich mixture for a longer time. Similar to the old fashioned choke, except that used a higher idle just to stop the engine from stalling, rather than for emissions. The modern engine could idle at low revs when cold if it wanted to without stalling, it just doesn't by design.

  6. Dear moderators Please can this thread be deleted. It was meant to be a light hearted discussion about tailgating but unfortunately has turned into personal attacks on people's driving behaviour and silly suggestions that do not help road safety. This is most unlike this forum where people usually behave like ladies and gentlemen. Thanks

  7. Is this the 'floor mat-interfering-with-the-accelerator pedal issue'? But the accelerator is fly-by-wire so there's the possibility of an electrical/electronic fault?

  8. Stuart, just 'google' Brisk DR15YS and you'll see these silver SINGLE electrode plugs. I've now reached 30,000 miles on mine and the car has not missed a single beat and no misfiring at all. I'm replacing them this month with another set of the same. With postage, 8 plugs are about £36/37. Hope this helps.

  10. I would never fit cheap chinese tyres on my cars. They may look pretty good on labels but steer clear! Also Halfords is the last place on earth to shop for tyres :) Go for part worn or new set of Falkens. Guys (and Gals) - never skim on tyres they are what connect you to the road and keep you alive. Always buy good tyres - sure research for the best model to fit your requirements but do not go cheap/crap. I paid £165 per corner for my winter tyres and by heck they are worth it. Brilliant performance in the winter and wet weather. Bren

  11. Mine gets used every day for all sorts of driving, short, long and tbh I don't worry any more about mpg ........... just fill it up when it hits the orange and a bit ( there's 100 miles left in mine when it hits orange ) and pay the card bill every month and thank heavens I can ........ when one gets older the finer things in life matter more, and to me driving my Ls400 is of prime importance and absolutely one of the finer things in life. Holidaying with my Ls is also a great thing to be able to do and something I so, so enjoy. Good food, home comforts, Ls400 driving and that other thing that seems to develop more when one's a tad younger ........ hahahaha .... get my first state OAPension this month ........... OMG ........ now I can afford more miles in Lexii ... ah the bliss of older age eh !!! ........ and getting old quite disgracefully is good too. Malc .

  12. Cotswold Pete says that ".... It's never a good idea to just start the engine from cold and belt.,.." I agree with this in the sense that I would not exceed 3000rpm until the engine has reached operating temperature. On the other hand I have often read that warming up the engine while stationary is not good for the engine and of course takes longer. What is the sense of the forum on this question?
