  2. yes thats the company i used are they not the self adhesive ones whee you have to cut your bulb holder off and join the wire? i bought something similar off ebay when i had mark 4 and decided not to fit them because of the wire cutting? They just replace the standard the lenses, you reuse the bulb holders no need to cut any wires

  5. If your going to get an indy to do it, make sure you ask to see the old parts he takes of your car at the end.

  6. I wouldn't trust a place that thought that some LS's have chain-driven cams. I'd go with a reputable indy and have all the relevant parts replaced. Might cost a bit more for peace of mind, but worth it.

  7. Thanks Hoodrich! Not much development over the past wee while, 2 new front tyres and 2 ruined wheel studs that the last owner never informed me about, so in the next few days I will be doing a few things 1) into the garage, wet vac seats, put heater through window 2) remove wheels and superclean inside 3) remove discs and paint drum part and calipers 4) change any studs 5) put new wheel nuts on 6) put new seat covers on 7 ) have a cup of tea

  8. Check accelerator linkage in case it's somehow stuck open? (Under bonnet, though I guess you may as well check some 'carpet interface' inside!

  9. Thats for an Ls200/300. My own exprerience of costs for parts alone is in this thread, so beware as just chaging the belt can easily lead into all other parts. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/95522-need-help-98-ls-400-parts/#entry893499 ps My very good mechanic friend has yet to bill me for the labour element - thats four months back?? Must be doing well to be able to leave it so long! That price is for the LS430, I assume the 400 would be the same (and is the price quoted by lexus sheffield for my 400)

  11. Just take it to the local paintshop/alloy refurbishers and they should be able to paint them for you. That's what I did to my RX400h - though did not go for red, but just gunmetal grey.

  12. I'd be surprised if anybody stocks them give the number of RXs sold and it isn't the sort of vehicle that most owners want to mod. Generally calliper covers aren't a good idea as they interfere with cooling however on a hybrid where most of the braking is performed by the electric motors and on a vehicle where you probably aren't punishing the brakes it isn't such a problem. A tin of red Smoothrite paint may be the better option although more involved.

  13. I don't think I'm in the wrong forum but thanks for your advice. Even porsche owners discuss fuel economy. There's nothing wrong with having these discussions after all that's what theses forums are for aren't they. looks are a matter of personal preference. I'm sure the IS owners would say the 250 is a better looking car. Lastly I think both engines are great and after driving german for 20+ years I'm gonna see how well the GS treats me. Congrats. on new car and welcome to the forum. Please accept my apologies i did not mean to be rude. It is simply my personal veiw, that fuel economy is completely irrelevant in this class. But still, £90K diesel S class is selling strong :D

  14. Out of all the 9 ones I've owned my current GS250 sounds the best yet. They seemed to turn down the available bass on the IS's

  16. REPAIRED FOR £7 !!! Hi all, I have finally repaired my transmission oil pump on my GS450h !!! After many months of 'trying to find time' to repair it, I finally got the car on a ramp today. Firstly drained the ATF fluid from the gearbox (approx. 4.5 litres came out). I them removed the exhaust bracket mounted on the gearbox (4 bolts). Then I unbolted the oil pump (4 bolts) from the gearbox and unclipped all the connectors from the oil pump controller and wiring mounts from the chassis and fed the cables back from the engine compartment to the gearbox area. I then checked out continuity of the wiring from the connectors to the pump. All were fine. Next I removed the pump housing from the motor and inspected the shaft by trying to spin the shaft on the output of the motor. It was seized. I tried moving it with some mole grips and the shaft moved, but grated. I then took the pump assembly apart to look for brushes (had to drill out 3x M5 screws as they were seized on), only to find that it is a brushless motor with 3 coils, like a stepper motor. I checked out the front shaft bearing and found that it was worn, causing the shaft magnets to grate against the motor coil assembly. Bingo.!!!!! Fault found!!!! I then visited my local bearing specialist and, hey presto, he had the correct bearing in stock! I also purchased the rear bearing too, just as a matter of course, totalling £14 in parts. They are only little 22mm bearings, and are common parts. Then I started to reassemble the motor with the new bearings. I had to drill out the 3 M5 screws completely and re-tap the threads to M6 and fit 3x new M6 screws in place. I then reversed the removal procedure and then filled the gearbox with ATF. I started the car. The same Hybrid fault came up. So I plugged in my code reader and cleared the P2797 code, and HET PRESTO. NEXT TIME IT WAS STARTED, THE CAR RAN PERFECTLY. I now had full Hybrid functionality and a fully wrking car. I am ecstatic. and extremely pleased with myself. Considering Lexus say the only remedy is a new oil pump at the cost of £3240. I have fixed it for £7. All in all, it took me 5 hours to repair (not including finding a bearing supplier). Lets hope this is good news for all of us GS450h and LS600 owners (same pump on both cars). Regards, Giles.

  17. At least the mileage on a Lexus dealers car can be trusted which you cant with Lexuschap. No reason for this to be deleted. It is here as a warning to those who have yet to come across him. He did try and join the forum but could only end up posting foul language and abuse. Best thing is not to read this thread. Mike.
