  1. Matthew There are two pumps one for screen and the other for headlight washers and the reservoir serves both. Get someone to press the button whilst you put your ear to the reservoir (remove the lid)if there is no sound the pump as probably given up on life. You will need to remove the engine undercover to get at the pump and its circuit connections water and power, make sure you have power here before moving to next step. It might be possible to remove and replace the pump with the reservoir in situ but not having had a pump problem I cannot be sure .I do know it is possible to remove the float meter device in situ but that is located on the bottom of the reservoir .The pumps are located on the side and could be difficult to get at. update; Having looked at the schematic diagram of the reservoir the windscreen pump is located on the leading edge of the reservoir adjacent to the front bumper behind and underneath the headlight. It is probable that the best way to the pump in situ is by loosening the mudguard liner at the front and easing it out of the way .If you use this method you will not have to remove the engine under cover just loosen the piece of under cover that sits below the reservoir to give you enough access.

  2. As per my other thread I've had intermittent starting problems for a week or so. The battery tested OK and based on the opinions of the good people on this forum,it pointed toward the starter solenoid contacts as being the fault. I bought new contacts off Ebay and took the car to an independent Porsche specialist, who today replaced the contacts, checked the starter etc. It's early days but so far it looks as if I have a good result, touch wood. The contacts cost around £15. The Lexus main dealers ( I tried two) wanted £432 inc VAT in labour to do the work. The Porsche specialist, a very nice chap, estimated £160, and charged only £140 inclusive of VAT. The job did not faze him at all. At a third of the Lexus cost, this proves that 1. there are good, skilled people out there who will offer a great service at reasonable cost, and 2. that Lexus dealers charge extortionate rates. I can't believe it. Nearly £300 saved. The independent chap is Porsche trained, I believe and has all the latest equipment. The only thing I missed was free coffee and biscuits (although the specialist is nearer to home so not applicable as I did not wait, I dropped off yesterday and picked up today.). As it is, the children will eat this Xmas. I have not gone to a back street, dodgy outfit. This garage had Porsche Carreras, a newish Bentley Continental and a BMW X5 parked outside. I chose this place because I imagine that Porsches can be challenging to work on and wanted to ensure that attention to detail was probably high on the list of priorities. As there seem to be no Lexus specialists in or near South Yorkshire, this is a good result all round.

  3. I get exactly the same thing on my ’96 Mk3, and as suggested it’s usually after a little while of driving (perhaps some bit of plastic gradually warms up, expands then something in the ignition switch breaks contact?). There was another post about this on here and it seemed the switch was definitely the problem. I’m living with mine but I’ve replaced one before on a Camry of similar age, it wasn’t too hard to do so should be a relatively cheap fix once you’ve bought the part and not worth spending lots of money on diagnostics to investigate it.

  4. I'd do them with a brush. Do the tyres too so they match.

  6. Matthew, unlike you, I had the headlight wash pump fail on my Mk4 once. Like Ambermarine says, you access the two separate pumps and resovoir via the wheel-well liner. No need to take off the undertray. I replaced mine with a used pump off a scrapper (on-line breakers) for £7 three years ago, it still works fine. It's not too hard to get at or fit.
