  3. We decided to order a new IS300H to replace our trust Civic diesel in November, but thanks to 2 (two!!) family weddings in India, and than not been able to decided on spec/colour, we've finally got it all together and the order has gone in.... So hopefully in around March 2015, we'll be taking delivery of a brand new IS300H premier in Sonic Titanium with Ivory leather and 17inch 10 spoke wheels, at the last minute I couldn't resist in adding the safety pack....so basically all the toys expect the sun room which neither of us have ever wanted in any car. Thanks for the guys on the forum on advice regarding colour/spec, and especially for recommending drivethedeal. We got a 15% discount with minimal hassle and stress. And it's meant we've ended up with the top spec model with all the toys for the same price as what we would have payed our local dealer for 'just' a Luxury spec car B) We've never taken delivery of a new car before so cannot wait till March 2015.

  4. If you have a digital multimeter you can measure the resistance of the sensors, IIRC they should read around 1200-1500 ohms, if you don't get any reading the sensor is open circuit and therefore faulty. Just disconnect the sensor at the plug/socket and measure across the 2 pins.

  5. Hi Andy You do have to press and hold the button for about a second for it to work. Have you tried that or are you just pressing like the door lock/unlock buttons?

  6. Not wishing to contradict Jake and Colin, in my experience KYB dampers are not the same as OEM. The loop is narrower. The turning forces (with compression and stretching of the spring) will destroy the bush in no time. I broke my own rule and wasted time and money on KYBs, rejected them and went with genuine Toyota. Make sure the fitters use the Toyota SST spring compressor; a generic compressor will allow the spring to twist, resulting in a permanent twisting force on the bush at normal ride height (unless they allow for this - and believe me it won't even cross their minds).

  7. It may be worth getting the alternator checked out to see whether it is charging all the time or only intermittently. I had a similar problem on my Mk 3 LS400 recently. The battery ran flat and the car ground to a halt. I put a spare fully charged battery on to get it home, recharged the original battery, started the car and put a voltmeter across the battery. It read 14.8 volts so I assumed the alternator was charging OK and the battery was at fault. I bought a new battery but this ran flat when I was out in the car shortly afterwards. A sixth sense told me that was not going to be an easy fix so I decided to book it into Lexus to get them to check out the alternator and wiring connections. This turned out to be a good move as the alternator had to be removed and refitted twice to discover that it charged Ok when the engine was cold but only sometimes when it was hot. The intermittent charging was due to an internal fault. A replacement alternator has now solved the problem.

  8. Sorry to hear your news, and I hope you find good homes for your cars. Just out of interest, what do you think of the Phaeton? I've always thought it a rather smart machine, in an understated (which for me is good!) way, and have wondered how it compares with a 430.

  9. I was just about to say, for the price he's asking you could get a lovely ls430. I had a 99 T reg ls400 with 39000 miles on it that I sold for £3000, which I thought was a good price.

  10. Hi guys, reading Matt, the new owners thoughts there, I have suggested to him that he might like me to collect and drive his car along Route66 and back for my suggested trip next UK spring 2015. Let you know how I get on ! Malc

  11. I have car batteries for other projects, over 8 years old, and no problems. The Morris Minor ignores it's battery when not left at night. This was the reason in the good old days, my dad used to run a cable out of the house to a parking light he hooked up to the window of the car. If had used his car battery, he would have had the same issue that we Lexus owners now have with the security systems working 24/7. Maybe a doberman would be a better bet, leave it in the LS overnight, disable all the electronics and see if anyone dares steal anything!!! I remember my Dad having a little white and red parking light hooked on his window. I'm pretty sure that ran off his battery. He also used to put a blanket over the engine overnight. One car was a Triumph Herald, and the other a Hillman Minx. I can still remember the registration number of his previously owned Ford Prefect VDV 539 and his Ford Zephyr Zodiac GPR 963. This is almost 50 years ago. I often can't remember where I left my car keys or what I had for dinner yesterday. Strange. I have also been fancying a Morris Minor lately for pottering about, but a standard one. getting hard to find a decent one without paying silly money. I had a Traveller once, full of character and loved the raspberry sound the engine made when changing gear.

  12. People mainly use forums for when they have a problem. Hence the Lexus one's are quiet :)

  13. hahahahahahaha .............. I remember in the olden days when all you needed with a flat battery was to get the starting handle out of the boot and a couple of yanks on that got the engine whirring again ...... oh, and the boot lock was just that, an old fashioned key in the handle !!! Malc

  15. WOW, frankly found Audi to be one of the worst if not the absolute worst in terms of customer service but hey thats just my experience. Firstly the "Fixed price" business. Its not really a "fixed price". It should actually be called "Capped price". This is because the £895 you have been quoted is the absolute MAXIMUM that any dealer can charge for a service. As Lexus dealers are independently owned by different companies for example RRG group, Fish Brothers, Jardine motors etc etc, they can charge whatever they please up to £895. As far as Im concerned, and I am sure other forum users will agree with me, I can't see any customer service issues in what you have posted bar the "overfilling of the sump". It may just be a one off occasion, as you probably know, ***** happens and people make mistakes. I've dealt with many dealers searching for cars as well as when owning them and I definitely agree that Lexus service is the best out of the bunch - get over to Stockport and they'll show you how it should be

  16. It seems that modern batteries give little or no warning about imminent failure. Mine was fine on Sunday, but failed on Monday and no amount of charging would have it hold it's charge. New battery today and back to normal. My motorcycle batteries have the same limited life too. Pete

  17. This is a joke surely? Reversing lights on a car without a camera......er.....maybe to help you see when reversing as well as warning other road users of your intentions? If your driving a car with no reversing camera do you just reverse without looking? :winky:

  18. What a weird post ! Is your point that people who buy cheaper cars should expect to pay more for servicing? God forbid we ever buy a Ford Ka ! No the point is that the Merc is £7k more expensive and even though the Lexus has higher servicing, the Merc would cost more overall
