  1. Just found out that the cigarette lighter socket does not work in the car ... I am not a smoker but would like to use it to charge phone etc. The socket under the armrest works fine. The cigarette lighter itself does not work either - it does not stay down when pushed and just pops back up. Anyone know what the fault could be - I will struggle to use the one under the arm rest as there is not enough room to put the arm rest down when the plug is in and something's plugged into it.

  2. The thinner the tyres the better, but fitting winter/snow tyres is the only way to do the job properly. Plenty on this forum if you run a search. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC

  4. Huge stroke of luck, a breakers yard 40 miles away got in a Lexus, I got it for £20 and it's being fitted now. Huge relief - thank you all. And the best past it, this one obviously hasn't been serviced by Lexus, no rust and freely moving slider pins!

  5. My tyres never wear on the Heathrow M25 section I generally spend more time there stationary :) I also have Kuhmo on the rears, reasonable grip and now done over 15,000 on them, getting ready for change now but still legal.

  6. I've always viewed the larger Lexus hybrids as performance vehicles as opposed to fuel-misers. The GS450h and the GS300 for example are not far off in real-world fuel consumption, but the 450h is considerably quicker. I'm pretty sure it's the same story with the LS460 and LS600h.

  7. You are a wise man. Most of us who aren't thinking of getting rid of our cars are worried about what we'd replace them with, so my advice to anyone who doesn't have to get rid of one is: DON'T! Yours has a better history than many. And it's not going to lose much, if anything, in depreciation from now on. It might even be worth more!

  8. Hi Eric, when I get back from Turkey tomorrow I will PM you some info. Its all really laid back on the meets though (although I have only been to one). Just good to meet other Lexus owners.

  10. In order to diagnose the problem you need a digital multimeter to check for 12 volts at the socket and work back. I assume as the other armrest socket works the fuse will be common to both and therefore OK but it still may be worth checking just incase they do have seperate fuses.

  12. I was browsing the internet last night as my MOT was due coming week and I wanted to know if it was possible to get it done on a Sunday. Kwikfit seemed to be the most popular search result for 'Mot on Sunday' and I booked it despite hearing/reading about bad experiences people have had with them. Woke up this morning and had a quick look round the car to make sure all the bulbs were working. Checked the tyre tread using the 10p coin method and was pretty surprised to see I had plenty of tread left. (17000+ miles on Dunlop SP01). Took the car in, nice and clean reception area with friendly staff. I was told it would take 45 minutes and offered tea/coffee while I waited. My initial intention was to sit in the viewing area to observe the MOT being carried out but the nice weather drew me outdoors. Found a nice spot and just sat there listening to music and daydreaming. 45 minutes later I went indoors and got my new test certificate which was advisory free as expected. :) I usually pay £55 for the MOT and this one was £30 because I booked online. So I reckon it was a good punt. I suppose the level of service may vary from branch to branch but Orpington (Kent) could not be faulted today.

  13. Who said they were dodgy? Are you speaking from experience? The one I bought was legit and half the price so why go to Lexus? I think there problem here is some people are to scared to touch their cars, like the type of person who drives to the dealer to put a new battery in there key!

  14. A friend of mine bought a Mercedes E320 last year, on an 04 plate. Immaculate, and I must admit it had me going slightly green at first. One year on and a brake repair cost him £1,500, now he's looking at another £1,500 for a gearbox repair. Maybe that's why we're daft enough to own thirsty cars!. And to be honest, averaging over 30 mpg on a trip this week, I think is pretty good for such a big car.

  15. hi.... i did a similar fix a few weeks ago, following a post i found here i did it slightly different the splines actually go all the way through the inside of the aluminium tube, only the ends wear..... so, i cut the aluminium rod in half (with a hacksaw) cut the worn ends off, re-yatched the 2 bits of aluminium rod and joined them with a section of 15mm copper pipe.... which i drilled and bolted through both sections of aluminium rod. works great.... and you dont need to remove the seat from the car
