  1. Which? don't have any advertising. I had no idea. How on earth do they survive. Mike Subscribers. A VERY large number of them (over a million at one point, not sure about these days). Completely different business model to the more conventional news-stand advertising-funded publishing. And it means they always put readers/members first. Mostly. ;)

  2. Valuing used cars is a minefield and as we all know, a god deal is where both party's are reasonably happy, ie a compromise. But brand snobbery plays a huge part. Before buying my ls400 I went to a local auction who was having a collectors sale. Listed was a one owner 1996 mercedes s280 with 50k miles. It was poverty spec, wheel trims, no radio fitted at the request of it's only owner and was, to all intents and purposes a new mercedes...not a sought after 500 or 600, a beautifully kept, unmarked 280. The car was advertised as estimated 3-4k which I thought strong even with the condition and I took 3k to auction thinking 'only I will pay this kind of money for a Jewish racing gold poverty spec Merc'....wrong...it made....6k! Really, I know the auction owner and it sold!! I would put the ls400 I bought at about 80% the condition of the old Merc! and having driven both! twice the car to drive. Same age, same colour, virtually same miles...i bought the ls for a fraction of the mercs price....does that mean the Merc was 'worth' several times the money....I don't think so. I am unfortunately having to advertise my ls and it is for sale for less than 2k....but here is the kicker...I don't think I could buy a significantly better car regardless of budget....certainly a newer 10k car would be nice, shiny, newer...but better?...offer the blend of attributes, serenity, un flustered competence the big lexus does...no thanks, il save my money in future....now, don't tell anyone about this, and for gods sake keep this forum secret....we don't want the prices going up now do,we?....I might want another next summer!! Joking aside, and I rarely do this with my 'summer treat' car...if I don't get what I want for the lexus I will mothball it and have another Ls next summer...the same one....these cars GET UNDER YOUR SKIN

  4. I have seen Phils setup and can confirm its brilliant. Keep meaning to get around to doing mine but something else always seems to jump up and put the mockers on it. Mike Good stuff. Don't want it to be visible, so am scoping out the reg-plate holder types, like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380650682694 Added complication is avoiding a mess with the wiring, but there are some wireless ones, too. i have fitted parking sensors to a couple of my 400s in the past and wiring is very easy. you will have to remove the boot lid lining which is just pop rivets - route the wiring through the boot hinge then in from the rear seats if you push back the rear cushion you will see a plastic blanking plug - drill a hole through that - remove both sill plates which just pop off and then run the wires through there - very easy

  5. reis.co.uk but there are quite a few schemes around, certainly for caterhams and lotuses etc. im sure they would offer terms for such a specialist car as our isf. reis were not competitive for me for the Lexus but i had no ncb, as it was an additional car. Might be better this year, shall find out soon enough.

  6. Had my Ct 200H a week now and love it. Only thing that is a little dissapointing is there is no info apart from the station name on both FM and DAB. Is this expected behaviour? I understand on other systems there is a text button which then does mean showing of info.

  7. I had my Is220d at 123k and loved it to bits, but I exchanged it for an IS250 for £750 on top of it. The IS250 is 132k miles. When I part exchanged my IS220d, the dealer told me he was listening in for the dual mass flywheel when pressing clutch as they are known to go on these cars and cost £800 to fix. He said there was a bit of sound, but not enough to be worried about. I never got good mpg from my IS220d, somewhere between 29 to 33 mpg average. I am getting the same from IS250. I have heard that IS250 should be more reliable. Will see how things go. There is an issue with carbon build up in the engine of the IS250. As mine has quite a few miles on it I think I might be hit with the problem sooner or later. Considering the cars I have had in the past and some of the cars my friends have, these cars are very reliable. Problem is that when something goes wrong, it cost and arm and a leg to fix it.

  8. Has anyone else managed to get the latest gen ML / Nav system working with 'Connected Services' and an iPhone (4S or 5)? In anticipation of getting the car on Saturday, I'm reading that the Connected Services require a phone that supports Dial Up Networking profiles which the iphone doesn't, although the Lexus FAQ on Bluetooth settings says that DUN or PAN are required. I will find out for myself on Saturday, but meanwhile, I'm curious to know whether it is possible, specifically with the iPhone? This should allow me to carry out Google searches from the Nav unit via my iphone. Regards Pete
