  1. Just a couple of points for other members worrying about how much to add when the A/C does not freeze your finger tips. The early Mark 1&2 had condensor fans which were dropped on later models mainly because as one member as rightly pointed out it never gets desert hot in the UK for any length of time. Also the lowest temprature that comes out of the vents was raised because the cold setting on the early models was unpleasant ,remember the A/C is supposed to be climate control orientated not fridge driven. By the time they got to the Mark 4 the A/C had been refined to just about the right ambient temprature for the UK and is not supposed to freeze your finger tips. The correct amount of R134a is quite easy to calculate; On the top of the receiver/drier ,the canister that sits forward of the condensor behind the front grill is a small circular window. When the car is started with the A/C on immediatly the window should foam with air bubbles and within ten seconds go clear the reverse sequence should also occur when the engine is switched off or the A/C is turned off.If the foaming is continuos there is not enough gas in the system and if it keeps foaming after more and more gas is added beyond the reccomended amount there is probably a leak in the system.

  2. Well after 5mth wait, and about a year after I first had a test drive of a 3rd gen IS300h, the car finally arrived today on the back of a transporter from RRG Bradford via Lex Autolease. 15miles on the clock, 1/4 tank of fuel, 2 sets of floor mats (1 x Lex in boot, 1 x Lexus in car!) and a warning triangle/hi vis safety kit thing in a bag! Car looks the bees knees in Mercury Grey and Dark Rose, very pleased with the colour combination. Full spec is IS300h F-Sport, with Premium Nav, Dark Rose leather and Adaptive Suspension. Done about 12 miles in it so far and loving every minute, especially how far it is possible to run on EV, with the mpg gauge ticking up! Also the elec seats and mirrors, love how both the mirrors dip on reverse to where you want them! Need more running to see what the AVS difference will bring, its subtle so far, though do get a Sport S+ mode now, which is even more aggressive. Just sorting out the Nav, portal acct etc now. Appears SW version is V3101D, not sure on map version just yet, but will look. Will link it up to the Phone (Samsung GS3), Ipod and the portal and let you all know how I get on. Couple of photo's, (red looks more pink using the phone camera than in real life)

  3. I suspect the LS400 Mk4 is the best of the best, mine was 400 odd miles away, LPG, fancy suspension, colour I wanted, bought hours after it appeared on Ebay, it was just what I was looking for, so hit buy it now and wasn't disappointed (not that I'm recommending this way of buying a car....)

  4. Check out Rock Auto, an excellent company. You can get shipping costs and import duty costs directly on their website. They do compressors and kits cheaper too.

  6. "He who hesitates is lost, Rodney!" ;) I'm reminded of the time a ridiculously cheap vintage guitar amplifier was advertised in the days of the Loot free classifieds. The advert said "only call after 9am". Muggins here respectfully did as instructed. To find at one minute past nine that it was already sold ... to someone who called at 8am.

  7. A manual Supra box is strong, a friend of mine has a 600bhp single turbo set up in his UK manual Supra, he's uprated the clutch but the box is standard. If you can find one I'd buy a complete manual Supra perhaps accident damaged, that way you have pretty much everything you need.

  8. Hi Jonathon I paid for my 19k miler two years ago 3750 the private owner had it on ebay with a reserve of 4500 but I got him to take it off on a deal to buy for cash. You don't have that luxury but do have a couple of bargaining points ,the paint job will cost 500 to be done professionally, the hubcaps are not matching ,this is probably because the wheels have been refurbed with paint from the original brushed steel finish. There will be other bits and peices that may need attention like the washer bottle float etc. I have been more than satisfied with my mint purchase and have taken the mileage up to 26k, seems ridiculous but age does'nt age these cars and good examples are rare so grab the oppurtunity as you will find it a decision you won't regret.

  9. originally it was just the F Sport and Premier that could have the sunroof option. But this was just the basic sunroof. The Pano roof wasn't going to be offered in the UK

  11. Running costs will double, £500 road tax ,if you get a warranty with it you will be required to get it serviced at a Lexus dealership ,your insurance will increase and you will be petrified of getting it scratched in a car park. These are the cons the pros to be honest are not that much different to driving the mark4. For sure it has a few more gizmos ,but there are a few really good examples of the mark 4 about and for a lot less than 14k. By the way coolbox plug in to ashtray £40 and you can take it to the picnic were you will celebrate with cordial how much you saved.

  12. Having a democratically elected government is pretty meaningless, even for us. We have a democratically elected government, the Tories having received 36%of the vote. This has resulted in the deliberate, ideological destruction of the public sector, deliberate suppression of the working classes (and middle classes) with continual reduction of earnings (whilst the rich get richer), savage attacks on the vulnerable in our society, blatant pandering to big businesses, ,the financial institutions and bankers, accelerated selling off of OUR assets, unhealthy close relationships with the press and some extremely dodgy party donors, cash for honours, cash for lobbying and in my opinion, rampant corruption between politicians and businesses etc behind the scenes, on a par with many third world countries . Isn't democracy wonderful? A democratically elected government also took us into illegal wars, wasted hundreds of military lives on campaigns in Afghanistan etc. What thanks did our lads and lasses get? largely, redundancy. The " Man on the Clapham Omnibus "could have told you that as soon as we went in, terrorist training would be moved elsewhere, and that as soon as we left, the Taliban would move back in. We have left a trail of death and destruction across the middle east because our democratically elected government (of all stripes) have their own agendas and lack the foresight or the intellect to realise the consequences of their actions. We are still complicit in the cowardly practice of air strikes from drones, in which thousands of civilians have been, and are still being killed. They are allowed to fire their missiles based on "profiles" of individuals or groups they are watching from thousands of feet up. So a community meeting is assumed to be a terrorist meeting and they are blown to pieces. It is criminal and no wonder the West is universally hated in many regions. How many of the people affected by this slaughter will turn to terrorism? The only people to benefit from our democratically elected government are themselves, the rich, bankers, the arms manufacturers and makers of prosthetic limbs. So what is democracy and what is a terrorist? When Russia invaded Afghanistan, the Taliban were freedom fighters, supported and armed by the CIA, now they are terrorists. In the 1970's Sinn Fein were terrorists, now they are politicians. To call this a struggle between a democracy and terrorists is too simplistic and is also pointless. I feel for both sides and cannot imagine what their lives must be like.
