  1. Hello, have to make a decision on an is300 this week and am considering the f sport which does not have the sat nav, which is ok as I have a tom tom but not sure where the power point is and how many, not keen on running long power leads if I can help it, is their one in the boot? Keith

  3. Horses for courses?...the cars that made me realise how good diesel could be were an e39 530 d m-sport manual and a volvo s80 d5...both were acceptable quick, easily turned over 40 mpg, the volvo nearer 50mpg, and the bmw had few compromises as a drivers car....grippy, taut, punchy....but did either of these much more expensive cars compare to my ls400...no, no, NO....the ls isn't just about its remarkable engine, it's about a tactile integrity, a feeling, the knowledge that you are driving a car that was built to the highest standard possible and hang the price....and I have owned almost 200 cars and the ls is the first to give me that feeling....

  4. I would at least to a drain and refill which will change about 1/3 of the fluid. If it comes out a dark or dirty red compared to the new fluid then I would do another drain and refill shortly thereafter. Whilst a flush will get change all the fluid it can cause problems and UK garages aren't really equipped to do auto transmission flushes anyway. As already stated on the 5 speed transmission only use Toyota T-IV fluid. Unfortunately it is quite expensive. Dealers not knowing the price for a transmission drain doesn't surprise. It isn't part of the service schedule as there isn't an internal time placed on the fluid.

  5. HI and welcome to the club. I have a IS250 manual and agree with everything already written. The road tax is the main issue, however it is an excellent car and as mentioned although the gearbox can be a little notchy it is certainly not bad compared to other manuals. If you are a keen music lover I would say get a model with the Mark L system because it is absolutely excellent and I have had comments from Merc, BMW and Range Rover drivers to say how good it sounds. As with any Lexus ensure it has a full service history and do a bit of research into servicing costs because even at an independant (of which there are few) it will likely be a good bit more expensive than the Ford was. It is also worth looking at the service intervals because the 60K one is a biggy and it would be ideal if that had already been completed. The fuel figures for the manual are (school run approx 24mpg, round town 28-29mpg and motorway 38mpg). It is also worth bearing in mind that the IS250 seems to like premium petrol and can be a lumpy on the normal stuff. All in all If you take your time you will be able to buy an excellent model and will not regret it because these are great cars and fully deserve the excellent rep.

  6. Thanks for the replies and the info on these cars, i have decided that it will definitely only be a petrol as all of the problems all seem to be with the diesel and it will be good to have a petrol again but i will miss the kick in the back that my mondeo gives me and i have a couple of autos to look at this weekend so i'm hoping that i like the is250 but i'm sure i will
