  2. I would check to make sure your 12v battery is fine. Probably worth disconnecting it for a minute or two to reset everything. If you still get the fault then it could be the hybrid oil pump or the oil pump controller is faulty, but maybe just low or dirty fluid. Probably needs a visit to a Lexus dealer to diagnose correctly, although how many dealers have actually seen this issue and can correctly diagnose the fault without just replacing expensive parts is another question.

  4. Rings are a possibility, I would expect the sensor to out the abs light on. Or there could be a shard of metal stuck to the sensor. Sounds like you will need to pop all the wheels and discs off to check the rings or for foreign objects. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC

  5. As far as I know, certainly on the GS's, the momentary "SEC" display not being shown when you switch it on is the indicator that it has not been set. You should be good to go. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC

  6. The ceramic compound does make a huge difference to the amount of brake dust produced. It also helps to clean the alloys once a week if needed. Poorboys wheel sealant also gives a good layer of protection to help make cleaning easier in my opinion. As for the tarnished discs, you might try cycling the brakes as if you were bedding in new pads? Take it out on an open road, and brake hard at different speeds. Think I did 80-50, 70-40, and 60-30. Do each about three times. Mine are usually dirty due to not using the car in the week. Soon clean up though after a long drive on the Motorway.

  7. you know when you get the common brake servo failure as the dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree accompanied by a buzzer. It certainly sounds like you have a different issue.

  8. Is it using brake fluid? - if so, may be a servo problem. Are there any blocked breathers? I had this problem on one car I had - thought it was a van next to me blowing smoke at traffic lights, but no, it was me. A new one way valve sorted it - crankcase was pressurising. It could be valve stem oil seals, but this seems a remote possibility. Pete

  9. If I had a garage big enough (and several hours) I would happily do my own cam belt. I don't think there's anything particularly difficult, just tons of dismantling and reassembling. And of course wondering whether to throw the one bolt that you've got left at the end of it away or start again!

  10. Do you mean the W140 series which was the one billion dollar investment by Merc way before its intro. The W140 is a Barge and I owned one for six years. Positives over the 93 Lexus I've recently bought to take its place? Seats made for Germans and not for Japanese (todays obesity in mind) soft closure doors, I'm having to get used to slamming the doors again, and its irritating. Wing mirrors that fold in electrically, an electric rear sunblind helps stop leather Sunburn when parked in hot weather. Also no Cambelt expense as cam chains. I would say after a long drive either in the UK or abroad (and I do a twelve hour drive in France) that I am just as refreshed as I hope to be in the Lexus shortly. The Lexus is a bit shorter (I had the LWB version of both the W140 and the W126) which I'll get used to when using it as a pack animal. The Lexus engine is without doubt quieter than the straight six (probably the Cambelt plus!) but I can't compare against the V8 420 or 500 W140, only against the V8 500 W126 series. It was a beautiful reliable Engine and pretty quiet. The Lexus after two decades feels tighter than the Merc. I loved the Barge but am sure I'll love the Lexus equally as well now its taken its place. My mistake it was the W140. Once when in the back of one, I reckoned you could have got a mini (original design) in the back seat and still have room to spare. Also agree that sun blinds would be nice, but not very often a worry in our climate, and when it is that hot I prefer to be in the shade drinking beer or out for a walk around my local part of the Cotswold's. I recall once ion a trip to Middle East parking in the shade and then later on the sun came around and heated up everything. Burnt my hand quite badly when trying to close the door (nice chrome handle on some yank tank - Chrysler I recall), thank heavens the seats were cloth !!

  12. i hate people that park in child parking bays without children if i have my way i would wheel clamp all four wheels and have an individual charge to remove each of them or string them up by the bollocks if they couldn't pay. we have an 8mth old baby and yes we use the bays and only when he is with us in the car, if he isn't i would'nt park in them. I have children but i still park in the child bays regardless. Everyone else seems to do it around here, so I will as well. Think about it like this - what is the point being considerate towards other car users when no one is considerate towards you? Plus, mine is rather large compared to a CT and barely fits in a normal space. If it does, I have trouble getting out anyway so as a large vehicle owner, I think I'm eligible to use the child bays for the sake of being able to get out.

  14. I just installed LED eyebrows on my car. Yes, I know this is something you probably either love or hate. I used to hate them but then I changed my mind and am trying them out ! I have posted up a walkthrough over in the Workshop section, here. Any comments, especially if you think any bits are unclear/wrong, are appreciated.
